I’ve been seeing some ppl surprised/disappointed by itzy’s sound in recent releases with sneakers but it hasn’t been surprising at all to me??? If you’ve listened to their music beyond title tracks this is also very much them- fun & youthful. Itzy has many colours not just their badass stuff!💜 thanks for reacting I love enjoying itzy content with you, I hope you’ll react to their ‘Checkmate’ ep too 😊 their next one ‘Cheshire’ is out at the end of the month too!

Now that you've said it PD, I just realized this song remind me of Taylor Swift's Love Story. I like this song but maybe just what this song is about that make me only like it too, just a love story, but still a good song

Samm Kayy

I hope you check out checkmate soon!

I honestly was not the biggest fan of this song when it first released but I got to see them in LA and the live performance made me fall in love with it

My main complaint about this song is that it drags on a bit too long. It's not my favourite track of theirs but I can appreciate it for what it is, and it does feel very ITZY-like.

What confuses me with Itzy is, that their musical identity from Dalla Dalla to Loco was teenagers slowly but surely growing into young comfident adults, but now since Sneakers they're suddenly going back to being teenagers and kids.

Not at all. There was a message in Sneakers that resonated with Koreans and those of us who live in Korea. Post covid, post being under 2years worth of restrictions. ITZY delivered the right song with the right message at the right time and from the right group. That is why it is STILL Charting today in Korea and the album sold over 1 million copies.. Keep in mind less than 10% of those sales came from Western English speaking fans. ITZY fans in Korea are not teenagers. We actually skew older in the demographic. Start paying closer attention to the message and lyrics in Kpop and stop obessessing with concepts and visuals. If you need help getting the actual message of the song reply back and I will help you with it.

They released the behind for this and the MV was supposed to replicate an American sitcom.. This was released 5 days before the us tour and was meant to be promoted on Good Morning "CITYNAME" shows in each city and late night tv shows (like colbert), because Non Kpop fans in the US will tune out or turn the channel or get up and get a drink or snack when something comes on a show that is NOT English. They wanted to introduce themselves to people who are NOT KPOP fans and wouldn't give KPOP groups a chance. They thought they might impress some people into being fans by performing this on US TV. HOWEVER. Itaewon happened. That canceled all promotion of anything and everything for all kpop groups for a week. They missed the opportunity, and that is sad. The Song and MV had a purpose, and it was a largely unrealized purpose due to the Halloween event in Itaewon. That is unfortunate, because ITZY's performances could do exactly that.

Please don't just assume things about people, just cause they don't like a song and want to give a honest opinion without hating on anyone. I know that Koreans have quiet a different music taste than western fans, but music is subjective. I actually very much care about lyrics and deeper meanings in music. Itzy's lyricism has pretty much stayed the same with most of their title tracks and while I enjoyed them, these lyrics never really had a deeper hard hitting meaning for me than giving me a little motivation and some feel good vibes. I get that Sneakers is supposed to be a be yourself feel good song, but the "Puuuut my sneakers on" line sounds just super cringe to me and English is not even my native language. And Boys Like You would have resonated more with me, if I was still in high school and had my first love drama. But I've been listening to Itzy since their debut and am now in my mid twenties. I watched the girls grow from teens to adults while I did the same and I would love to hear and see that more in their releases. Loco was my perfect post covid feel good song, but their last two releases just fell flat to me.

Seriously thank you for this. I fucking hate how sadly most Western people act like adults can’t like fun songs and concepts. Not everybody wants to be “badass” or some shit so desperately

the thing that pushes this song from neutral to good for me personally is the chaeryeong high note because, was not expecting that at all! so much lia in this mv i thought well yeah english speaking main vocal that if there was a high note it would be hers, but then chaeryeong absolutely killed it

Christian

This song was not it. If they weren’t a big 3 group they would’ve been forgotten by now. I hope they can redeem themselves with their upcoming comeback.

It didn't resonate with you because you did not live through covid in Korea and were not locked down. That's why it works for us here and not you. Let it go, move on to something you like and listen to that. No need to rant on about what you don't like. Only toxic people feel the need to announce what they do not like to the world as if somehow we are wrong for not agreeing with you. It's ok to not like a song or find it to your taste. Go on about your business of not listening too it. No need to make negative comments about it. We liked it. We still listen to it and it still charting even after the release of Cheshire. It does not matter if you like it or not.

Theia

Your believe that critical thinking and negative feedback shouldn't happen really tells me a lot about your worldview. We're in the 21th century! It makes me really sad. I would have never "ranted" if you just let me have my own opinion. So stop your gaslighting attempt and own toxicity. Also, do you really think Korea was the only country on lock down?! Look at the whole world before making assumptions please. I get why someone would resonate with the song and I myself have multiple happy songs, that got me through covid. But I did not like this song and I am allowed to say it. It's really interesting how everyone is allowed to state their opinion except when it's about your faves. The no critique is allowed
