What did I just watch?? I´ve never seen such a tragic and devastating episode of Torchwood. This took me some time to get over it.

This episode made me go vegetarian after years of wobbling on the edge of meat eating later I became vegan for about a year but I found my health suffering and I reintroduced eggs to my diet, my eggs are from hens that run around my sisters farm and they have a very happy life. My sister does not slaughter her animals they get to live out their lives in peace.

Wow your story sounds similar to mine.I was vegetarian for 16 years, then went vegan for almost 6 years cause of health issues and reintroduced eggs just a few weeks ago. I had no health issues cause I was vegan but recent studies do show that there may be people who are bad converters for certain Proteins and might suffer due to that reason. Since you can't just get tested wether you are, or aren't I looked for someone who has saved chickens as pets in her garden and sells us a few eggs every now and than. Those chickens will also never get killed and can live a happy life now. 😊

I saw this episode when it first came out 2008 so I guess it’s 15 years since I ate any meat. My family are all veggie too. My mum was but she has passed my dad (also gone) was the only member of the family who ate meat. I have been buying Califa farm oat milk for a while it is very creamy. During lockdown I made my own oat milk it is very easy you just soak oats in water for a time then strain through a nut bag. I am very lazy I could still make it myself but it doesn’t keep very long. I make a yummy veggie stew with dumplings and pearl barley every week which gives me three meals.

Rhys is a Welsh name and is pronounced the same way as Reese or Reece. I have made numerous attempts to be vegetarian and even vegan but I always go back to eating fish and seafood which doesn't really make sense but I think of it as a holding position until the next attempt. It is a very hard-hitting episode and I love the fact that Rhys is now involved and not being lied to. Tosh being in love with Owen and him not even noticing drives me mad as (in my opinion) he would be extremely lucky to be involved with her.

Ohhh that makes sense, thank you for explaining. I was so confused when I read his name. I really thought I heard it wrong all that time :D :D It´s nice to hear that you do attempt to eat vegetarian or vegan. :) And I think it´s also great, to do it your way. Changing slowly and finding new alternatives. Although I´ve never heard from someone, that said fish is their hardest struggle. Most of the people I talked to, can´t let the cheese go. This was my hardest challenge, too back then. :) YES I LOVE that Rhys is now involved, or at least knows the truth. I have waited for this for so long, and he really deserves it. Well....I can´t say that for sure, I hope he wont tell the secret in the future. But I am happy for both of them at the moment. :) I am so curious wether Owen will ever pick up on it, or if Tosh just gives up at one point in time. I mean she can´t get any more obvious :)

I must admit I am not a fan of vegan cheeses and I have tried quite a few. But I have a recipe now for making your own from cashew nuts, yeast flakes etc and I will give it a try,

"Run and hide, because the monsters are coming - the human race." - The Doctor, "The Christmas Invasion". I seem to quote that a lot. I wonder if other people have the same ratings feeling about this episode as I do. When I think about the episodes in this season, I remember certain episodes and I can imagine the way I would rank them. When I think about "Meat" it's always, "yeah, that's the one with the alien in the warehouse". But when I watch it, or watch a reaction to it, it's clear that it is so much better and heartbreaking than that simple summary. I would have rated the episode lower until I just watched it again where it gets at least a one-point bump. Isn't the argument between Gwen and Rhys in their flat riveting? And it's so wonderful when Gwen tells Jack that she couldn't bring herself going to erase Rhys's memory after Rhys had been so great at the warehouse and then talked about how much bigger the universe is for him now. Tosh and Owen: when you rewatch "Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang" (and why wouldn't you?), when Tosh and Owen are searching the building I think you can see a bit of this in her conversation.

That sentence is so tru for a lot of episodes, but unfortunately also for real life. So, you are allowed to use this quote a lot, if you want to. You have my permission :P I think it´s a really good episode, talking about an important issue. Although I´m sure many people watching the episode do not compare it to the real life issue. But I am not sure I would rewatch it, because it´s just way too sad for me. Yes the argument between Gwen and Rhys was a good one. And one I was waiting for, for so long. And when Gwen told Jack she wont earase Rhys´s memory, that was one of the best moments of this show so far. I will definately rewatch the whole show someday, and I will pay attention to certain scenes, now knowing what will happen later on. :)

There are a few good ones already, but not much. We do have way more vegan meats and milks than cheeses. But I´m happy you found a totally different way with your own recipe :) I looove yeast flakes, and I do use them with cashew nuts and vinegar and salt, too to make a parmesan for pasta, for example :) By the way, do you know if you have "Alpro Not Milk" in the UK. This is the favorite vegan milk of many people. Even my mom loves it although she´s not vegan. :) It taste almost like cows milk :)
