And as promised here is this month's patreon documentary! My way to thank each and every single one of you for your generous support! I hope you like this video and of course let me know your thoughts in the comments! If there is anything I can do to improve the quality of these videos feel free to give suggestions as I want to make sure you are happy with what you get. Next month documentary will be about the crusades and the knight templars! Patreon support allows me to increase the production quality of these videos, I can go to places, film both indoor and outdoor and spend more time researching. For the crusader video I'm also considering going to Malta, but we'll see ;) Anyhow, the format will be the same as this one. Part of the documentary will have me giving a sort of "lecture" and part of it will be throught the perspective of a knight crusader travelling to the holy land. In the video we will also have Latin and Hebrew reading. I think I'll keep this format for all the following patreon only documentaries. Enjoy!ps: in the video I mention my youtube video the black death so here is the link to that in case you have missed it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMxARU8QvtILink to the Oxfor centre for Late Antiquity http://www.ocla.ox.ac.uk/

You're awesome mate keep up the good work

Commodore Red Sunset

Great one IMHO especially since I don't know Roman history very well. Thank you very much Raf and enjoy your week-end. Take care.

Hersh Sewak

Great one ! loved the voice-overs for the soldier - marcus. Who was he? Is there a link to his journal or writings which you quoted in the video? keep up the good work.

Very nice. Was worth the wait. I'll be looking forward to October video. A little bit of proposition. One good way to make people aware of this platform is make more posts here, not even hidden behind the pay wall, like some short information about your plans and schedule in a post available to public. If people would know that they can come here and see something from time to time, then it might make some of them stay and decide that it worth investing to see the end result of all that planning. Posts like: "Thanks for you support, here is a little teaser" or something like that might actually make your Patreon page seem more lively. They can be short ones, most of the creators I support on Patreon post here at least weekly, and people seem to like it, and show even more support (not sure about monetary, but definitely a lot of grateful comments)

Noooo just wrote a long comment that didn't post lol. Take two...Great job imo. Enjoyed it all, the artistic eye in the opening shots, the sun filtered thru the tree branches, for example. Loved the narration in general, the changes in viewpoint & the 'costume' changes held interest. The photo montages were very enjoyable as well. One minor suggestion, perhaps when showing something to read as well as view such as maps, just a bit longer pause. Am a quick reader but would have liked just a bit more time to view the map. I know you're waiting for new stuff, but the armour looked great against the ruins imo. I feel like I just watched a mini-movie. Perfecto!! 👍👍👍

Your efforts are appreciated, Metatron. Get some sleep.

Metatron

I invented the whole script including what he says :) he is a sort of recurring character who represents a possible ancestor of mine

Fat Freddy's Cat

Very well done. I really enjoyed it and learned something. The shots of the ruins were awesome and I like Metatron's armor.

Blake Jardine

Legio Herculiani Seniores Approved.

Narrack

Really liked it :)

Glad this question was asked. Your complete fluency in that crazy English language is so impressive. Marcus has a unique & distinctive 'voice', the hallmark of good writing.

Talyc Verda (tahl-EESH VAIR-dah)

Very well made video. Just a thought though, I think that it might be an idea to release this publicly available at some point later on (say a month or so)

Lewis Cashell

Great video Metatron can't wait until the next one!

Carlos Veigas

Awesome video! Thanks. If you want to see the last stronghold of the Templars, come to Tomar, Portugal. I'll arrange things for you.

II ARROWS

Do you know what I feel you just missed? The opportunity of narrating in Latin.

Kenneth Pavia

Ben fatto! E grazie mille da Utah, Stati Uniti

Adam Kędziora

I have to say that I find many of the regular videos more :). For example the one bout roman houses - maybe because it was more focused ?

Stormyla

How lucky are you to have those ruins as a backdrop! Just out of curiosity the cataphractii mounted units... How did they travel? Was there pieces they took off or did the whole thing come off when on march? Also whats the kind of upkeep these soldiers have to do on there own equipment or did they take it to smiths etc? Did they have any ritualized behaviour when it came to the upkeep or was it all strictly "military/based on logic not say gods or good luck" behaviour? I wonder what it felt like riding in full plate like this... how it was to move.... what different blows felt like on the inside of thaaat... ahhh the wonder tyvm :D

Im so glad you are now able to gain reliable income from your work. Excited for the rest

Knarr

Very much enjoyed your work here. I do hope you decide to release this to the general public after a delay. You deserve the revenues it would generate.

Rafn Ágúst Ragnarsson

Amazing job, thoroughly entertaining and informative. You can really see the effort that went into this and I can’t wait for the next one.

Roma invicta! I decided to contribute on Patreon because I found that videos on Metatron's YouTube channel were useful to supplement my children's education, since the school system in the USA does a poor job with history, in my opinion, in contrast to school in Italy. I have one child studying the Ancient Romans this year, and another one just finishing studying the crusades, so I can't wait to share this video, and the one coming next month, with them. I couldn't be more pleased with these new documentary style videos. Well done, Raff!

Metatron

Glad to be of help and thank you for supporting me! I hope your children like the videos ^^
