Charity Event Financial Transparency (Patreon)
Content
As I promised, in the spirit of full transparency, I would like to disclose all the financial information about my Charity event which I ran in collaboration with Makeship. I'll hereby explain all the numbers, percentages, the money and the screenshot of the received payment.
For those who don't remember, Makeship and I collaborated making a knight plushie together. As a company they do this with many youtubers.
During this process I had the idea of donating a portion of my cut which would have been my profit to charity, specifically to help children with cancer.
So onto that portion now. All numbers disclosed.
My cut for the money generated by the event was $4.473 and 57 cents. This money was paid to me through my Paypal account on the 26th of September 2023.
Since I don't know if money raised for charity needs to be taxed first or not, I have momentarily moved 20% to the tax fund as I always do with any income. That amounts to $894. This is just a momentary movement. If my tax expert tells me I don't need to pay taxes on this, then I'll move it right back into the charity. If taxes need to be paid, I'll pay them and then I'll later on re add it to the charity fund from my own pockets. The charity won't suffer from the taxes either way.
Taxes moved, how much will I give to charity from the remaining $3.543? How much will I keep for myself? And how much will I reinvest on my channel production?
I'll keep 0 dollars for myself.
I'll divide it as follows: 85% charity, 15% channel production.
So I'll write a check for $3.012 for charity, and I'll use $531 for the channel.
Since I'm flying back to Italy in the next few days due to a family emergency, I'll invest this money on a new set of ring lights and possibly a new mic. Once these are purchased, I'll show you the order.
That should cover it just right, so you guys know that not only have you helped children who are suffering, but also all the content I'll be filming in Italy, well you helped me do it!
I also think it has a symbolic meaning. I'll buy "light" with it.
I know that there are massive youtubers out there who manage to raise hundreds of thousands for charity, but for me this is a big step because it's a first step. Charity events have a learning curve, there is probably a lot I could have organized and planned better, my communicative skills definitely need improving, but I am very grateful and humbled for all those who have believed in me and trusted me with their hard worked money.
It doesn't matter if it's 40 dollars or 1000 dollars, it's money that belonged to you, that you entrusted to me, and that alone means the world to me.
So this was step one, transparency.
Step two will be to identify the charity association. If you have suggestions feel free to let me know. As I was saying, it needs to be about children and cancer. I've of course been looking through a few options this month, but it needs to be 100% real, so I'm taking my due diligence very seriously.
Thank you again and onto the next! Ad maiora!
