NEVER CLICKED TO WATCH SOMETHING SO FAST

Kim L

I have quite literally never clicked so fast in my entire time on the internet Edit: Anne Hathaway did her big one in this film Russell Crowe’s Javert is truly terrible but I still love this movie so much

Tessa Noble

Yessssssss ….. I can’t wait to cry to this movie with you!!! It really has such a fantastic cast and Anne Hathaway is a very talented lady. Hugh Jackman is so good! He makes me cry. I believe this was Eddie Redmayne’s breakout role.

Can't begin to express how happy I am you experienced this story! I think you got it; the movie is an incredible production, the acting is amazing, but the singing is questionable a lot of the times. I'll say, these actors can and have sang way better than they do in this movie, a lot of decisions were made that led to that result. The priest that helps Valjean in the begging is played by Colm Wilkinson, he originated the role of Valjean in 1985! Also, Hadley Fraser was the guard with the weird mustache in the barricade fight. A few actors from the musical got to play minor roles in this actually. In terms of musical x movie: they changed the order of a few songs and also added a few to give more context to some things. They also added scenes to explain how Valjean and Cosette get away and how Javert finds them for example. Here's me holding out hope you'll watch the 25th anniversary!! It's the biggest and more complete live oficial recording there is.

Justice for Eponine! Can’t wait to see this live next month

I'm so happy you've reacted to this! I've been voting for it on polls for literal years now and it's so exciting to see the day finally come. Really enjoyed watching this with you and seeing how you felt about everyone. Your connection with Eponine is so valid. Like you said, we've all been an Eponine at some point in our lives and it's impossible not to relate. At the end, you made a comment that this felt like a book. Well, it actually was a book! Written by Victor Hugo in 1862, and then adapted into a stage musical in the 1980s. They did an astounding job condensing a 1500 page book into a 3 hour stage production, hitting all the points they needed to in order to convey the underlying themes and messages. There was a moment where you said the romance felt secondary to the bigger things happening, and I totally get what you mean. But I think the point of Marius and Cosette is that they are exactly what the revolution was fighting for. They are what Fantine, Val Jean and so many others were robbed of because of the inequality in society. Their happy ending tells us that even though the revolution failed, it doesn't mean that the dream dies.

I remember seeing this in theaters and when Colm Wilkinson appeared, I sobbed! He’s my favorite Valjean ❤️

Emma

Waking up to this AND the Glee concert movie?!?!

Emma

also crazy timing because i’m performing in the first ever full scale production of Les Miserables in my country and opening night is 5 weeks today! 😭 i’m so excited!!

Rosie ♥︎

I cry every time I watch the 25 anniversary! Im from the uk and gutted i couldn’t go

Second Edit: Javert is one of my favorite characters in a musical (Philip Quast is my favorite Javert) he’s complex and not necessarily a villain. In Feb of this year the US army chorus sang “Do You Hear The People Sing” at the White House governors ball in front of Donald Trump soooo…do with that what you will lol I remember thinking “he’s not listening to a word of this, but what an amazing choice of song for this occasion” I know this was long, but I highly recommend watching the Les Mis 10th anniversary concert with Colm Wilkinson (the man who played ‘God’ is the original Valjean!) and Philip Quast as Javert. Amazing vocals and the same amazing story. You are one of my favorite reactors, the only reactor I have a Patreon with! I appreciate your insight every single time. Thank you for all you do, and I hope you’re having a great day!

It's impossible to watch Les Misérables and not cry. Here I am, on a friday afternoon, a crying mess after rewatching with you 😂 In fact, this movie is an adaptation of the book written by Victor Hugo, a brilliant author who addresses such sensible and important themes within almost 1500 pages of work. I consider Les Misérables a classic that everyone should read, as we can relate to the injustices and tragedies that he wrote in the 1800's to things that are happening in the world right now. Considering how big the story is, I think the movie did an amazing job on the adaptation and the performances delivered by the cast are incredible. Just as you, I relate and empathize with Eponine so much. She's one of my favorite characters and her solo song on the rain is my favorite in the movie, alongside with Fantine's. This movie was the one who got me into musicals, really glad you watched and enjoyed it.

I have been waiting so long for this!! Les Mis is my favourite musical of all time (the stage show more so but still love this movie) I also love that you connected with Eponine so much so quickly. I love that you connected so much with Fantine and Eponine. To me they both really ground the show and bring so much relatability to it. Since she was the only main character you didn’t know the actor for (understandably so) Eponine was played by Samantha Barks who to me is an absolutely Phenomenal West End actress. She played Eponine in the West End in London around this time and is currently playing Elsa in Frozen.

God this musical means so much to me. My grandmother was a lover of broadway, and many of my early memories involve Les Miserables, Miss Saigon, The Phantom of the Opera, even Chicago (I was too young to see it on stage, but I can remember her playing the audio cassette in her car. Roxy Hart had my absolute love when I was 6! Lol Loved watching with you!!

evelyn🌷

oh my gosh, it's been almost ten years now since i went to watch this musical with my freshman french class. it was definitely a favorite, i cant wait to watch this with you!!!!!

krissy

Just came to see if anyone mentioned Rachel and Shelby (Idina Menzel) singing Fantine’s song, I Dreamed a Dream back in Season 1 Episode 19. And Rachel singing On My Own, Eponine’s song, in the pilot!

Jared

This movie istg. I can’t watch this thing without getting full body chills and crying at least once

CC

This is one of my favorite musicals ever, so glad you got to watch it! It’s so so impactful.

Giorgia M

Honestly… don’t know if I’m the right place to watch this now. I’ll hit the remix when I am feeling more stable lol !!! Can’t wait !!!

Iyana Taylor

This is sooo good I went to see it in the movies when it first came out and it still affects me the same everytime

cass

I was on costume crew for theater in high school and we did Les Mis which sparked my love for this musical. I had to do a 20 second wig change for the girl who played Fantine when she gets her hair cut off which took WEEKS to master😭

Vanessa87530

Such a great musical I always forget how much it makes me cry! I have been voting for this one for awhile I am glad we are finally here!

SierraNicole

Eddie Redmayne's "Empty Chairs at Empty Tables," is one of my favorite musical film performances of all time. I've seen it a dozen times and it still makes me cry and covers me in goosebumps.

Bangtan is life

Don’t know if you know this but they were singing live throughout this whole movie, which to me makes it even more impressive!

Anna Oleinik

The original broadway Jean ValJean was famously played by Colm Wilkinson who played the Monsignor who gives him the silver in this movie.

Anna Oleinik

Hathaway's first exposure to the role of Fantine was in 1987 when her mother, Kate McCauley Hathaway, played the role in the first U.S. tour of the musical.

The stage show runs for around a full 3 hours. I did it regionally back in 2012. Our production cut a few insignificant transitions to shorten the time a bit.
