When another musical poll drops you should definitely watch the Hadestown pro shot!

This is one of my favorite movies of all time and I still don’t always know what’s going on whenever I rewatch it lmaao This is definitely a movie for the social outcasts and while there’s debate on how problematic this movie is by today’s standard, for the 70s this was progressive as hell! And remains an iconic piece of queer media for sure. Tim Curry is a legend, RIP

TL:DR - this movie’s popularity through time has (in my opinion) a lot less to do with the movie itself, and a lot more to do with the audience and what we’ve created over the years. if you ever get a chance to see a screening of this movie in person (they still happen all the time, especially during october) then i think you will understand a lot more about why people love it the way they do. The Long Part - Genuinely I just saw a screening of this movie just last night (crazy timing), and I did an entire research project on the making of this play/movie, plus the impact it’s had on audiences, so i’ll try not to nerd out too much! basically, when the movie first released in the US in the 70s it was a huge flop. typical daytime audiences were not interested in seeing a movie like this. a few months after its release one of the producers suggested they start screening the film at midnight, to see if they could reach a better target audience. and obviously, they absolutely did! people who were outcasts in their daily lives, or people who felt stifled in their life, flocked to the theaters every day or weekend to see this movie. it became a place for freedom of expression and sexual liberation. people began dressing up as the characters, they started bringing props to use alongside the characters in the film, people began improvising a call and response with the dialogue. over the years, the movie screenings have basically turned into a live performance with the audience. there’s the standard props, the costumes people dress in, the call and response throughout the entire film, almost like a second script created entirely by the audience. (there are also regional differences in the call and responses, since they form organically through the local audience. it’s incredible!) many screenings also have a dedicated “shadow cast” of characters that perform the movie on stage in front of the movie playing. you touched on this in your review, but it really is a safe place for people outside the norm to get together and be themselves without fear of prejudice. that’s what Frank-N-Furters castle was in a way, and that’s what these screenings still are to this day. since the first midnight screenings, people were able to express themselves in ways that wouldn’t have been accepted by general society. that’s why the movie has stayed so popular for so long, and that’s why it is so loved. sorry for rambling, i love this movie and i loved your reaction! it’s been so long since i saw someone see it for the first time. i hope whoever’s interested gets a chance to see this movie in person, there is really nothing else like it!

I have so much nostalgia for this film so am really used to not knowing what the hell is going on but the amount of times I looked over and you were just dazed by confusion was super enjoyable, a great laugh

kelsie

no one knows what it means, but it’s provocative! it gets the people going 🤣

Storm

Going to an event to see this movie live is so much fun, lots of yelling and props and other weird stuff for the audience to do

Tim Curry is also great in Clue and the Worst Witch. The Worst Witch is technically a kids' movie, but it's kind of on acid. Clue is amazing and probably won't hurt your feelings. Fay Wray played the female lead in King Kong. King Kong carried her up to the top of a skyscraper, which is exactly what Rocky did with Frank N. Furter at the end.

“I’ve gotta go” is a perfect response to watching Rocky Horror for the first time, by yourself, with no context hahahaha also it was NOT well received in the 70’s 😂

There is no way to watch this movie and come away from it without being a little (or a lot) in love with Tim Curry. It's the very definition of a cult classic.

the worst part Michael is that 'Toucha-Toucha-Touch Me' was sung by Emma to Will on Glee not Rachel 😭
