Okay, there's a *lot* to say about this movie, but I'll just get the most important part out of the way first: you said yourself something like: "this movie / idea feels like it could go on forever," and guess what? It DOES. This was NOT Kane Parson's first work. He first got famous by his BACKROOMS SERIES ON YOUTUBE. Yes, there's an entire SERIES of this. With multiple episodes. Completely free on YouTube to watch. If you want to see for yourself, and deepen your understanding of this world, search "Kane Pixels" on YouTube: that's Kane Parson's artist name there. You'll find a playlist with ALL the Backrooms episodes, ready to go! :) So the movie isn't really a "stand-alone" thing: its best considered more as a *new episode* of a still on-going series. That's actually WHY the movie got so famous in the first place: Kane's Backrooms series on YouTube became *such* a huge hit that he was offered a movie deal, which is something that *very* rarely happens. So yeah, good for him! He's going places for sure, with his talents, and his incredibly young age (I think he's like 20 or 19 or something, and started doing the series at 16??) In either case, yeah, INCREDIBLY ambitious - and incredibly well-done - for such a small and *young* creator. But yeah, it IS a confusing movie, though if you've watched the series, you'll of course understand it better. First thing I want to say about the lore is that I think you got it mostly right at the end, about how this all feels like "Clark's world but not entirely." Because yeah, that's kind of what the movie was trying to say, I think. The way I personally understand the Backrooms (though, of course, I cannot *confirm* any of this, its just my personal theory based on what I've gathered from the movie and the YouTube episodes) is that the Bakcrooms is sort-of "memory archive" of humanity. Clark himself says: "This place builds them. Or, more like, remembers them. And the more times it remembers something, the less it does." Which is why all these rooms and "fake" people in the Backrooms (which are officially called "Still Lives," if you're curious; if my understanding is correct, Kane confirmed this on his Discord server at some point), are so distorted and "glitched:" the Backrooms copies the memories from the minds of EVERYONE on Earth, over and over again, mixes and "blends" them into this confusing mess that we see. And the reason that Clark's memories, specifically, were able to affect the Backrooms so strongly in this movie, is *probably* because a gate opened *right inside his furniture store,* where he had been living in for a long while now, wallowing in all the negative memories in his life, which is why the Bakcrooms copied them so intensly. I personally think *this* is why Clark's own Still Life - or "Captain Clark," lol - was so supernaturally and physically powerful compared to all the others: with the gate right in the shop, and Clark constantly doing those ads, the Bakcrooms managed to get a very clear memory to reconstruct. Its kind of sad, really, when you think about it: rather than copying Clark *himself* as a Still Life, Clark's negative memories associated with his pirate / shopkeeper persona were *so much more intense* than his "normal" memories, and he just kept wallowing in them for so long, that the Backrooms ended up copying those instead. So Clark REALLY brought his fate upon himself, no matter how you look at it. Doesn't mean its not sad, though. It also becomes even sadder when you realize that Clark - seemingly - built a *bond* with his Still Life / Captain Clark while he was trapped in the Backrooms. We see abandonded mail below the door to the shop when Mary arrives, so he was probably stuck for days or weeks (likely eating the other Still Lives to survive, as he did say "you can eat them,"), and Phil's photo shown at the end there, caught on one of the security cameras, shows Clark and Captain Clark (blocked by a black censor bar) just chilling in the Backrooms together. So yeah, it seems they both recognized each other and accepted each other. As for WHY Captain Clark attacked Clark at the end? Honestly, I'm not entirely sure, but there must be a reason. Maybe it felt "betrayed," in some sense? Like, by Clark trying to let Mary go, rather than leaving her for Captain Clark to kill? Or it felt betrayed by Clark finally getting some mental clarity at the end there, so it got jealous or something? I'm not sure how much sense that makes, since Clark specifically ACCEPTED his failures (which Captain Clark personifies) during that conversation ("I don't think I want to change"), so yeah, I don't know...or, maybe that is *precisely it?* Maybe EVEN CAPTAIN CLARK was desperately looking for someone to "save" it, the same way normal Clark was doing, and since even the *actual human Clark himself* (who essentially "created" Captain Clark, in some way, or at least helped the Backrooms create it), "abandonded" it (by saying "I don't want to change / I don't want to be saved"), Captain Clark got angry / felt betrayed by his human form, and in typical Clark fashion, decided to take it out on everyone else around him? Idk, that's my best theory yet. In either case, FASCINATING stuff, and a super fun reaction from you! :) The movie (and the YouTube series) makes you *really* think about all kinds of stuff! But especially the movie. Since its a lot longer than a typical Backrooms episode, Kane could fit a *lot* more lore and symbolism into it than usual. I HIGHLY recommend you give the YouTube series a try, it is *excellent,* in my opinion, and very interesting, too! Again, all free on YouTube under "Kane Pixels." Maybe you could even consider a reaction for binge-watching all the Backrooms series episodes, since I *think* when they're all combined together, they're about the length of a movie? In either case, if you do decide to watch it, I hope you'll enjoy it! :) I'm pretty sure you will, though, since it teaches you quite a bit more about the universe, especially Async, the company in charge of exploring the Backrooms. Though, of course, its still a horror mystery series, so not everything is clear at the moment, and the story is still unfolding…

Also, I will NOT take this Async slander, lmao. And I don't mean your suspicions of them: *clearly* they're up to something, that much is obvious even in the series, though I personally think they are morally gray, rather than just "basic government evil:" the series gives the implication, at least to me, that Async is a largely *independent* company, not the governmen'ts puppet, and haven't told about the Bakcoorms to many (if any!) outsiders. Their ultimate goals also seem to be economic, and even "humanitarian," in some sense, with the series revealing that they intend to use the Backrooms as a public stroage and housing space that they can market for dirt cheap. Think about all the *good* that could do, if succesfful! Humanity would not have storage problems again, ever. We could just keep dumping all our nuclear waste in some remote region of the Backrooms and forget about it (the series gives the implication that its *spatially infinite*), and we could also convert the existing rooms into housing if we ever run out of space here on Earth: there's already electricity, heating, and plumbing in the Backrooms that *nobody* has to pay for! So yeah, I don't think Async is "evil," nessecarily. I think the ultimate question is: do they intend to *purge* the Backrooms of monsters *before* they go along with their plan, or do they keep it a secret, and just leave the monsters to be a problem for those who decide to utilize the Backrooms? If its the former, I can see myself alinging with Async. If its the latter, then yeah, they're *evil as fuck,* lmao. But in either case, I think Mary is fine. They're 100 % *not* going to let her go, with the amount of information she has, but I doubt they would *kill* her, or send her to prison for life. More than likely, they'll recruit her for the organization. Its fitting, in a way, isn't it? A therapist changing her strategy from exploring the human mind *psychologically* to exploring the human mind (the Backrooms) *physically.* I think it would be a pretty cool arc! So yeah, at this moment, I don't think Async is ALL bad, even though there is DEFINITELY some shady bullshit going on behind the scenes, like there are in most real-world corporations. So I'm not really critizising you for distrusting Async, especially since you haven't watched the series yet, and I don't *fully* trust them, either, even though I still think they're more morally gray than just evil: primarily, I don't agree with your criticism of their METHODS. Like that whole sign thing, with them measuring the radiuses and distances and shit. "What does that give you??" IT GIVES THEM INFORMATION ABOUT THE SIZE OF THE SIGN. Its simple as that. A CORE principle of SCIENCE. When you don't know *anything* about something, you *study it bit by bit until you figure it out.* When faced with something completely unknown, you get as *much* information as you can so gradually, it becomes *less* unknown. The physical size of the signs, and the distances between them, are good enough of a start as any. Only a *fool* explores a *completely unknown, supernatural dimension* and *doesn't* try to dissect it piece by piece, trying to figure out *every* little detail they can. Its so FASCINATING, and the UNKNOWN aspect of it is what makes trying to understand something like this with science so FUN. Genuinely, that whole "measuring the signs" segment was very ENTERTANING for me, becasue that's EXACTLY what I would do. One of my favorite quotes is this: ”the only difference between fucking around and science is writing it down,” which is EXACTLY what Async is doing here. They don’t know ANTYHING, so when they notice a new phenomenon, they just fuck around with whatever they can (in this case, measure various distances and sizes of the signs), record everything, and pass it on to other scientists, hoping that even this tiny, seemingly insigifncant information might *eventually* be of help when it comes to truly understanding the Backrooms. That’s what ALL science is about, really, and how it has progressed so far in the real world. Teeny, tiny steps in trying to understand something, passed down to the next generation, who continued from there, until a breakthrough was made. So yes, personally, I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE to explore the Backrooms. I'd be THRILLED to! I FULLY agree with Clark's ambitious curiosity, and I FULLY agree with Async's scientitifc, systematic, extremely detailed analysis of even the tiniest of details. The only "main" difference between me and Clark is that I would be similar to Naren in that I would ASSUME DANGER FIRST in an unknown situation. If *I* noticed a crack in my apartment's wall, with light coming from a space that *should not be there,* I would not fucking casually TOUCH IT, lmao...not with my *own body,* at least. I would get a long pople and stick *that* into the wall. And when I notice that it goes through like magic, I would put a *video camera* on the pole and check what's on the other side. And when, from the footage, I realized there's a whole, entire series of rooms on the other side, I'd buy a rover - or just attach a camera to a small, remote-controlled vehicle, like a toy car - and started exploring with THAT. No way in hell *I'm* going through that portal before confirming with certaintiy that its 100 % safe. And when I would confirm the presence of an *actual, genuine monster* (like seeing Captain Clark on the rover camera) would I actually get the fuck out of my apartment, lmao. But I would NOT stop STUDYING it. In fact, the fact that there IS a monster in the new dimension would be MORE reason to study it. That's just the kind of person I am. My method for dealing with stress and fear is: "if I can understand it, I can control it." After I gain knowledge that this world has PORTALS leading to ANOTHER WORLD with a FUCKING *MONSTER* in it, the most FOOLISH thing to do is to say: "nah, I'm done with this, its too scary to handle." That just leaves you VULNERABLE, in case you ever encounter this same phenomenon again. No, if you want to survive, and get proper mental clarity, you need to UNDERSTAND what you’re dealing with. And now you have the *perfect* opportunity to *study* the monster from afar, so it becomes less of a threat. So yeah, I'm not SLEEPING in my own apartment after discovering Captain Clark, lmao (since he could enter my apartment via the portal if he found it), but I would still be regularly visiting my apartment to send rovers further and further out into the Backrooms. I would also set up security cameras on the other side, like Async did, right around the portal (and likely other nearby areas, too), and connect them to my PC and phone, so I could *always* check whether its safe to enter my apartment, from anywhere. Also definitely add motion sensors to the cameras so they send an alert if anything moves near them. If they spot movement anywhere close to the portal while I'm still in my apartmentl, I'm OUT, lmao. Until the threat is gone, that is, and then its *right* back to exploring (with a rover, from a safe distance, of course). So yeah, for me, finding the Backrooms would be SCARY AS FUCK, but it would also be INCREDIBLY THRILLING. Its *exactly* the typ of mental challenge that I would enjoy! So yeah, anyone can call me stupid if they like, but I WOULD epxlore this world. I would try to do it as smartly as I could, and I would *of course* inform my family and close friends about it, rather than just going in by myself like Clark and Mary (lmao), and again, I would use *rovers,* not explore on foot, but still. I would explore it. I'm just *too damn curious.* Leaving it unknown would be even scarier. So yeah, definitely agree with how Async is approaching this (aside from Ronald, that one dumb guy in Naren’s team who just wanted to keep exploring an unkown region of the Bakcrooms without a plan or calling for backup, lmao), and so yeah, you can probably imagine how much *fun* this movie was for someone like me to see in a theater, since it was just a solid two hours of just exploring and trying to understand this incredibly fascnating world that Kane Parsons has created! Therefore, very glad to see that you enjoyed your experience with it, too! :) Again, I HIGHLY recommend watching the Kane Pixels YouTube series, if this movie was at all interesting to you! The quality of those videos is excellent, too, if you ask me.

Also, last thing: *absolutely love* your shirt XD

Marissa Franco

You should watch Practical Magic for a Halloween movie that isn’t scary Lol or Casper would be fun!
