Just a little bit of completely useless trivia- the book Hopper is reading El is Anne of Green Gables. It’s sort of a weird spot to drop in on the story as she’s telling someone about her parents and how they died, but it’s generally a happy story with a lot of heart and whimsy. It’s also the book he was reading to his daughter when she was sick in the hospital.

Nicole

Jim yelling at El enough to make her cry and bust out all of the cabin windows always gets me crying! It’s too relatable to me. I love my dad and I know he loves me too, but he- like Hopper- doesn’t always express his love and concern in the best way. And things that should probably be said in a nicer way, aren’t. Great reactions as always!

Angie

so im not the only one to not love Hopper's aggression? I've said this for years and get hate for it, but just wait for season 3 lol.

Kayla

i like the duo of jonathon and nancy better but in general steve > both of them.

Kayla

so as far el getting "stuck" with hopper i think hopper is the only one who knows about the government which wants to get their hands on El and so he took it upon himself to find her and hide her and as much as i love joyce, she would not be able to handle the situation given how much she has on her plate. hopper will adjust as a father figure i think.

Mikayla

yes!! just an fyi that we don’t necessarily think you’ll love steve x nancy as a couple (i think most people ship nancy and jonathan too lol) but steve really comes into his own in the back end of this season as well as 3 & 4 and i think you’ll love that aspect of him. he becomes such a feel good character.

The caption😭😭 too true

Yenelly Tejada

11 can't live with joice because she lives in the middle of hawkins where she could possibly be seen. To hopper it's safer in the woods

Yenelly Tejada

agree! he is the only one that knows they still exist, and he has a deal with them about not talking.

Of course Jim Hopper loves "Don't Mess Around with Jim" by Jim Croce! The book Hopper is reading to Eleven is Anne of Green Gables, the same book he was reading to his daughter in the hospital. Several of the child actors, Sadie, Gaten, and Caleb, were all on Broadway prior to Stranger Things. Millie was on a show called Intruders prior to ST. She was about 9 years old, playing an adult in a child's body. She was incredible!

onlyastarion

i mean i dont think people "love" his aggression, just that hes protective lmao, which makes complete sense, given how his daughter died and how easy it would for el to be gone too.

kerry berry

Also totally random but that movie Godzilla vs Kong that u were talking about at the end had millie bb in it too, she played the little girl i'm pretty sure!

onlyastarion

but yeah i seriously doubt joyce would be able to handle having el, considering what she’s dealing with rn. hopper is the best place for her to be no matter the problems lol, and i think he will adjust more !! he just hasn’t been a “parent” i’m so long, and he admittedly is overprotective.

Prem Parekh

I think Nancy and Jonathan are for sure better for each other but if I had to pick who I like more based on overall character by mid-season 3, Steve would be my pick without a shadow of a doubt.

heather

the basketball scenes😭 you had me dying when you said zac efron would wipe the floor with them lmaoo cant wait for you to get more into this season!!!

DougRaw

Poor El would be, at best, under government control months ago if she had been living with Joyce, Hopper is definitely too controlling but lets not be crazy and think El has better options considering she has to live under the radar for now.

ipsssen

I think Nancy and Jonathan are the better couple for sure, but as a character, Steve is everything

Jade

Dem-O-gorgon XD not Demi, it makes me think of Demi Lovato's head on its body

Tiffany

Jonathan has always gotten on my nerves. I feel like he had such a blah personality.

Jules

I love rewatching the series with you, Michael. But I just wanted to say to everyone else watching: as much as providing background information and things Michael missed in his reaction is great, can we not ‘spoil’ character growths such as Steve and other things that develop later. Michael will understand as he continues to watch the series and I find it unfair that people are telling him before he gets a chance to see it for himself.

Jules

I don’t at all believe people are doing it maliciously, I think we are all just a bit excited 😆

kerry berry

Omg I've literally never met anyone with my same opinion!!! He is just so bland 😭😭

Jenna

- if you like the way this season is filmed, just wait until season 4 :-) - it was seriously some kind of destiny that got all these fantastic actors on this brillant show, from the youngest to the oldest. incredible! - i agrée, hopper did not handle the eleven situation well, and that he did react based off his past trauma. it’s not good, but it’s understandable. he’s trying to protect el, like he couldn’t protect his biological daughter, and he isn’t wrong that she could be easily found out by the lab. as we saw in episode 4 they have spies everywhere and all the phone lines tapped. they could have found her just from when the police was called about “a strange girl” being seen. even so, he still could handle it better, especially due to how young she is and her own past trauma on top of it. two traumatized people trying to making it work and never having learned how to do it “right” because of their pasts… - billy is max’s older stepbrother! - your reactions to these scenes are fantastic. i’m so glad you’re enjoying it. your love for jancy (jonathan and nancy) is fun!

Austin Lay

You’re just on season 2!!? You must hurry lol.

Anthony Jackson

mannnn im all caught up! you're gonna flip! it always just gets better. u should try to make it so we can all watch season 4 part 2, together! would be a lot of fun!

Anthony Jackson

I’m actually very surprised how much you like mad max right away… it took me awhile 😂

Roslyn

I love rewatching this with you. I do think Jonathan and Nancy are a better pairing romantically, but I have such a soft spot for Steve as a character. Just wait, you'll see. I definitely think Hop is going over the top trying to protect El, and that he has no idea how to parent El through her teen years. The kids are about 12 this season, and all those hormones and questioning of authority are kicking into high gear. His last parenting experience with his own daughter was when she was young and he had a partner to help as well so he doesn't quite know what to do. He's a good guy that loves the people around him though. Don't give up on him!

qq

Same. I didn’t like her until almost the end of this season but now she’s one of my favs!

Angie

it's nice to see some jonathan love for once! Steve is really funny, but Jonathan fits so well with nancy and he's really sweet. (steve is sweet too, but jonathan is very down to earth and has layers).

Anthony Jackson

man! the rest of the season will turn a lot of your thoughts! about plots and characters for sure! Very curious if you will have a new fav person by the end!

qq

I guarantee Steve’s gonna be one of your favorites by the end of this season. And definitely even more next season lol

Katanna Gross

i’m so excited for you to see steve grow as a character. he was even supposed to die in the first season but they loved the actor so much they kept him and wrote him a whole new story line.

Bailey

I liked max from the beginning if I’m being honest. I’ve always loved that she never took shit from anyone and always knew how to hold her own. She definitely is a bit stubborn but I think she compliments the group very well. And let’s not forget that Sadie Sink is a phenomenal actress :))

Shinra Tensei

Steve > Jonathan and Nancy combined lol. he's actually the best boy ever

Jayde Ritchey

I have FINALLY found time to watch this video!! Great reaction, as always. I love hearing you think things through and then getting to see where you guessed right or wrong. Bob is a real MVP for me this season, even if his advice to Will didn't really work they way they both hoped it would lol

Alecea Wells

millie bobby brown was in godzilla vs kong!

Bangtan is life

I guess I’m the only one who actually comes to love Hopper and El together, as he kinda becomes like a father figure for her❤️ Hopper may be rough around the edges but he means well!
