2026-10-23 18:00 I think The Painted Lady couldn't help because of the pollution. She is a river spirit, so I imagine the damaged state of the river caused her to be unable to help. But now that Katara has helped out, she can come forward and help the villagers herself now.

just when i thought i'm finally catching up w the avatar content, here u go posting another one lol!!

Lucille

The Toph figures are so cool! I really like all the spirit stuff in the show

Michael Beveraggi

That’s really interesting Niamh (lovely name) didn’t think about that at all! Makes sense since that’s exactly when she showed up. Now they have medicine & the actual Painted Lady!

Hedda Dybvadskog

"what about Jet?" Michael I hate to break it to you but Jet died. Obviously can't say that on Nickelodeon but it has been confirmed by the showrunners.

Daco

I think that Sozin actually did come to help his old friend at first, but when he saw Roku powerless, he realized that he could achieve his dream if the avatar was gone and he decided to leave him in the end.

ariel

remember the white lotus was the secret society that helped iroh and zuko become refugees in ba sing se. there's more to learn but just thought i'd drop that reminder.

Tomasina

Really hope we're jumping into Korra after this ends

Mariana

Loooove all the Toph merch <3 I feel we've been flying through this show, I love it so much!

Thank you! And Jet actually died in Lake Laogai, they just couldn't make it super obvious at the time, so when Toph said "He's lying." about him saying he was 'fine', he was actually dying.

Mikayla

love the love for Katara’s voice actress! her name is Mae Whitman, and she’s actually been in a few shows/movies herself (Good Girls, The DUFF, etc). reiterating someone else’s comment, I would love for you to watch The Legend of Korra after this show! Korra is the avatar after Aang. the show isn’t as loved as ATLA for many reasons and people (mostly men) love to hate on Korra, but I still think there are some really cool and emotional moments in it that you’d love.

Caitlin Goerlich

Yeah, I definitely didn't watch the last season. Or at least most of it because I didn't remember any of these episodes. I still question why I didn't watch the last season. Oh well. I'm glad to be watching it now. Love your Toph merch! Can't wait for the next set of Avatar reactions.

Caitlin Goerlich

By the way, totally off topic but I would love to see you react to one of the Wizards of Waverly Pod episodes where they talked to Selena. As a Selena stan as yourself, you would absolutely love it. You don't even have to watch the actual show to enjoy this particular podcast episode. The title of this one is: Ep 4: Selena Gomez Reveals Her Biggest Mistake–https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97TBj7Svgy4

I could write an entire book about "The Beach" episode, specifically about the subtext we get for Azula, but ill try to keep it short lol. Azula is ruled by fear and not love. She has learned from her father that fear is a tool those born into power get to wield and that's what separates the strong from the weak. She clings to this ideology bc it helps her cope w/ why Zuko and her mother weren't close w/ her. They were ruled by love and that made them weak and unworthy of their status. But in this episode, she realizes that that "fear" doesn't attract people to her like they are to Tai Lee, nor has it provided her with a genuine partner like Mai and Zuko, and finds she's jealous of them, despite all of these people being "beneath" Azula in her eyes. When everyone is being vulnerable she takes the opportunity to be introspective and directly/indirectly tells us that she fears that her mother never loved her, and that's the root of her character. This is also a rare moment where we see Azula with her walls down, as she relates to the trauma and tragedy of their youth with Zuko, inviting him down to the beach away from all that pain. Being called a "monster" actually hurt her, so she reclaimed that title and found a false confidence in it. She ran to power and fear to escape her pain, that is her beach. And deep down she's afraid she'll end up on an island alone.

super sorry for the long comment, this is prob my fav episode of my fav series and I don't get to talk about it alot. it's like a masterclass in writing character development for a character that doesn't like to show their cards often.

caitlin

the girls giggling at the beach over zuko were so me when i was ten watching this show 😂 i was totally in love

Dandy Welosky

Like i want him to post reactions of this show everyday😂 it’s Been a blast watching it again after so many years

Lizzy

cass

ariel

Roslyn

I love this show so much, and it's been years since I've watched it all the way through so I'm enjoying watching it with you. I love the themes of redemption, doing what's right, leading with empathy and compassion, etc. I'm hoping you watch Korra next.

CC Land

The way this show portrays war and colonization is so masterful. A lot of conquering has been done under the guise of helping people. Sozin said he wanted to spread the glory of the fire nation which really meant he wanted to impose that "glory" on the rest of the world. The fire nation is heavily inspired by Japan and Japan used periods of economic crises in neighboring countries to seize control. Even now, conservatives in Japan will claim that they never colonized anyone and instead were just helping countries with economic struggles. There is also a lot of rewriting of history, which we saw when Aang was at the fire nation school and the kids were taught that the air nomads had a military and were a threat to the fire nation when that wasn't true at all. I could write a whole thesis on it.

Farmer John

Well I'd love to read a whole thesis on it.
