it probably goes without saying that it takes a lot less effort and time to make these side channel videos, and more importantly I don't spend the whole time feeling like I have a 50 pound wet blanket wrapped around my head, and most importantly nobody seems to hate them like my old bench vids, and even more importantly I have been in continuous GI pain for months and doctors won't return my phone calls so this is what I'm capable of at the moment. Hope it's fun. Thanks for watching!

I hope you’re feel better though. We can wait for videos if needed. That being said, these videos ARE great anyway.

Seems like HD DVD was largely abandoned in 2008

I would happily buy one of the two PC based Niveus units from you. It would be a great media center PC for my old Magnaplanar speakers.

Travis Noble

Anyone else surprised by the hddvd drive being ide rather than sata?

cathoderaydude

ime laptop opticals stayed ide much longer than one would expect

cathoderaydude

The trouble is that I don't *like* not making videos. Just sitting around raking in passive income while not doing anything feels awful.

For what its worth, I really enjoyed the Bench Little Guy videos. I still rewatch them from time to time. I enjoy just taking some time to just look at some "Little Guys".

I work in Seattle and wouldnt mind taking custody of the ranier if its not already in the dumpster!

cathoderaydude

excellent, your name is on the top of the pile then. I do prefer not to throw things away so pending any other projects I think of in the next few days, it'll be yours

Crash Cash

I'll bet it's a case (hahaha) of "look how heavy it is! I sure got my money's worth!"

Jack Menhorn

There is another commenter with an older comment interested in buying it so feel free to take them up on that if you want!

I think they'd fit a lot better on the second channel!

Travis Noble

that's interesting, did not know that. any idea why that was?

Parker Muir

As someone that went through every test for GI problems just to be told nothing could be done to help I completely understand the pain, just do what you can and you know we will be here for any videos!!!! Absolutely love these second channel videos for the time being!!

And that’s why you could never be part of the 1%. 😆

I’m curious if it’s actually PATA, or if it’s actually SATA with a PATA adapter on it for unknown reasons.

Crash Cash

Damn if I'm not calling thermal paste "computer icing" from now on... that just about killed me.

Derek Lippold

Yeah I know what you mean. It IS hard. But we do care about you though.

Channel Well Technology (CWT) is one of the biggest OEM/ODM PSU manufacturer - they don't sell to customers but instead make PSUs for dozens if not hundreds of brands including many of the well-known ones like Corsair, MSI, ASUS, SilverStone and so one. Some of these get all their PSUs from CWT, others mix and match. CWT has a bunch of standard platforms they offer "off the shelf" at various price points but some bigger brands like Corsair work with CWT to make unique models which are more "joint projects. Others take them as is or get CWT to put "their" modular connectors on them so all their units have the same regardless of who actually built it. This OTOH is clearly a very low volume project which means it's very likely they found it in CWT's catalog of existing PSU models. CWT would have happily made them a fully passive PSU with heatpipes but that would have cost a lot for such a small volume product. Tom's Hardware PSU reviews usually mention where the platform comes from and whether it's a "stock" model or custom-made together with the "brand" selling it.

FYI, "Mitutoyo" is pronounced "mi-tsu-to-yo". Here's some of their marketing material in English where they pronounce it out loud: https://youtu.be/fnZEDi2PWUI Japanese doesn't have a "too" or "tuh" sound*, it's only spelled that way because they're using a romanization system designed for Japanese speakers which preserves Japanese orthography (Nihon-shiki or Kunrei-shiki) rather than one designed to accurately transcribe pronunciation (like Hepburn). This is the same reason that Yoshi is spelled "Yossy" in some old marketing materials. There's a more in-depth overview from Clyde Mandelin on his localization website if anyone wants to learn more: https://legendsoflocalization.com/articles/yoshi-yossy-japanese-name/ * Yes, I know about "トゥ", but that's only used for transcribing other languages in Japanese, it's not a Japanese phoneme. Yes, I know I'm a nerd and this whole comment is a giant nit-pick 😅

I'd prefer to sell the Denali, since it's actually in a functioning state and honestly a much more practical machine to use longterm, since the PSU and GPU are far more readily replaceable and upgradeable. It would be a monster to ship admittedly if you're not local, but I'd feel better about accepting money for it and figuring out how to get it packed safely, heh. So if you're interested in the Denali send me an email (cathoderaydude@gmail.com) and we'll talk. Thanks!

hello gravis, long time viewer first time commentor. apologies in advance as i get the feeling you may have already heard this a few times, but i need to get it off my chest. ever since watching your videos i've had an uncanny sort of feeling about your screen presence that at various points in your videos i thought i had gotten to the bottom-of, upon this-or-that anecdote about your personal life, work history, etc. but i realize at this moment i have finally solved it for good and feel compelled to share: in an-imaginary prestige docudrama series about The Life and Times of CRD, you would be played by actor rich sommer. that is all, thank you.
