GUESS WHO WROTE THIS POST YESTERDAY, THEN ACCIDENTALLY LEFT IT IN DRAFT STATE. ANYWAY, I QUITI might write a more detailed post at some point, and I haven't decided if I'm gonna make an announcement video or w/e until things are actually wrapped up, but: I did it, I told my boss I'm out, and while (for reasons that are ultimately beneficial to me) my last day won't be until the end of the month, the deed is effectively done.I don't know that I definitely would have gone through with this without the huge outpouring of support from all of you. I like to think I would have, but I also don't like fooling myself, and in any case, I'm glad I didn't have to find out.I will be honest: When this idea initially occurred to me, I said to several people "I think my audience is tapped out, and to get up to a comfortable monthly income I would need to push hard for new subscribers, and I'm worried I can't manage that." I really did not expect you to make this kind of statement; I did not think I was worth this kind of investment. So I wasn't completely certain that I was going to go through with it.Well, after the first six hours of pledge upgrades I said to myself, "ah, I guess I don't have much choice now, do I?" I could maybe have let myself down by bailing on this, but not all of you. This is the good kind of "getting backed into a corner," to be clear - like an intervention that makes you clean up your life.I have already had my first minor panic attack over "what if i run out of Content" and similar worries. More will come, I'm sure. Really, though, my list of practical concerns and doubts is short and largely specious. I think this will all work out Fine, and I'm looking forward to finding out what I'm going to do.

Woo woo! So excited to see what can be done on the channel without two arms behind your back!!! Most excellent news and happy to be a part of that support

Sophie Quinn-Graham

Congratulations! All my best wishes for navigating this (hopefully!) exciting new phase of the adventure.

Danny

Your channel is so unique I'll be happy to see you produce more content in the near future!

YOU GOT THIS

CONGRATULATIONS.

I am so, so happy for you! You derserve to do something that you love. In every video you do you have an energy that only comes out in people when there's a genuine fascination or drive from within. Here's to many more videos and further success 🥂🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Fauna

I don't think you'll run out of content. there's so much Weird Stuff™ in the past

Eric

Congratulations on ripping the bandaid and starting the new adventure! I'm very interested in technology, of course, but I have never had a specific interest in camcorders, television production, weird mice, bad netbooks, or many of the other things that nominally appear on your channel. Nonetheless, I can never get enough of your videos and rarely miss a Sunday Amogus stream recording. I know the reason why, and it's why I support you here. Your infectious interest in the anthropology and political economy behind the technology around us, even --- and especially --- the most mundane, is a rare and satisfying journey every time. My reaction to every video is "I can't wait to see what forgotten thing Gravis will get us to be fascinated about this time". Anyone who can get me to drop everything and sit down for a fifty-five minute deep-dive into Asus ExpressGate has years and years of content and monthly pledges ahead of them. I suspect that feeling is pretty common around here. Cheers!

Shane Baker

Well done - your content is engaging in a very unique way. I hope more and more people appreciate it and allow this dream to continue

"Running out of content" is not possible thanks to the concept of "necessity is the mother of invention". As entertainers, you and I, we each always find a way to entertain our audiences as that's what we're driven to do. I primarily review DOS games, yet I wanted to play more of my favourite games, yet I'd already reviewed most of them MANY years prior, so I came up with the concept of "Pro" and "Mod" videos which allowed me to revisit previously visited games to shine new light on them in interesting ways! The point is: You will ALWAYS come up with new and interesting ideas going forwards; never doubt that! ;)

adorfer

even without new content: we binge rewatched 3 of your videos yesterday with nerdy friends. Great fun since it sparcs so many topics.

Alex Cruise

I was thinking you could auction off any pieces you've featured in your videos that you don't want to keep... But maybe you won't need to ;)

Hugo Devillers

you've changed the game and raised the bar for videos about old technology: you don't just showcase stuff, you somehow take us with you in a time machine to be a fly on the wall in the room where the stuff was conceived, you find the angle to understand the most baffling products and ill-fated companies and you do it all in an intellectually engaging, funny and yet deeply respectful way. you're now my benchmark: if I ever make the video I promised myself I would make (it's about a dead 3d graphics vendor, but not the one you think), I want it to look like a CRD video, because that's the best tech storytelling I've seen.

Guy Mendes

Honestly, the amount you've raised the bar on your tech reviews has made me pretty much apathetic to any other creator. I don't wanna see anyone else review a quirky camera, a technology standard or pretty much any type of interesting tech other than you. Because with your content I feel like I get the whole picture and then some instead of the usual with creators opting out to just leave 80% of the question unswared so he can make a more "appealing" 15 min video. No need to say you got this or whatever, you always had it! Can't wait for what you have in store for us, especially when it's Video Toasting time!

Gordon Bolton

You have absolutely got this, Gravis. You aren't the first YouTuber to walk this path, some carried on to unbridled success, others gave it a good go but ultimately decided that it wasn't quite enough. I know you're going to be the former, and the initial response from your audience should let you know that too! I'm really looking forward to seeing what you achieve when doing this full time, and I'm proud to be able to support you in this (admittedly very small) way. If you find yourself having negative feelings about any of it, I would just ask that you try to redirect them into one of your epic diatribes about the insanity of some tech decisions of the past, we can never have too many of those! I'm sure I speak for all of your patrons when I say Good Luck buddy, we are all here rooting hard for you!

Carson Walker

Congrats, I was hoping you'd make the leap!

Richard Thompson

Awesome news... You got this. Now, get going on that 6+ hour mini-series of some esoteric tech thing that I didn't know I needed to know about. The style of your videos are spot on.

Jeffrey R. Broido

There is no possible way that you could run out of content. You have the amazing ability to find content in old technology and actually make it interesting. The reason this will work for you, and I hope it does, is that you're not just an old video technology hobbyist, but you have an infectious enthusiasm and an excellent teaching style. I subscribed and Patreonized immediately upon seeing the first video of yours that had been suggested by YouTube years ago.

Penny Unwise

I'm really glad this is going well for you! I was a bit saddened to hear you were losing your drive, but the time and mental energy being sucked out of you by a crappy job is now freed up for you to do what you really want to do. You've always had the passion for the subject matter, so it's only up from here. Good on you, you deserve it. <3

OGeggman

Keep up the content, I am relatively new to your stuff but what you post hits on so many of my interests I am surprised it has taken this long for me to find ya lol.

Lars Wikman

I'm glad the signal got through. Thrilled actually :)

Madam Kistulot

I would enjoy a wide variety of your content, and frankly, at this point, you've provided me so many countless hours of entertainment that I'll keep supporting you as long as I can :)
