Terrific timing, because this week I can’t listen to podcasts. Coincidentally another podcast I listen to just released two and a half seasons in one drop also. I have 30+ podcasts to listen to at the moment, and a fortnight until I can make a dent in them again. Can’t wait.

ahhhh can't believe you've seen tati! hulot's holiday is one of my favourite films of all time 😭 but i fully agree with how weirded out you were by the visual effects. there is a moment in another tati film where a 2d animated beachball is superimposed over a live action beach and i thought i was going to melt

Asher

Did you watch the film on your projector? I'm neurodiverse and have recently been watching a lot on a projector and have had to take breaks from lots of films and shows due to overstimulation, even some I've watched before and had no issues with.

I’m enjoying Daniel learning that Fat neutralises the taste of Capsaicin

I have been trying to find where to watch Playtime in the UK for ages. Please tell me how you managed to watch it!

Tyler Kelley

When you asked about a film that might give you a panic attack my first thought was Whiplash. That movie made me feel genuinely ill

Narmatonia

2 minutes into the description of Playtime I added it to my to watch list, then 5 minutes in I paused the podcast and ordered the DVD, it sounds incredible.

I feel so called out by that 'it's called Playtime btw for the people who are waiting for me to repeat the title'

I feel like Playtime isn't a movie to try and take everything in at once, you just look around and find something interesting and laugh at it. I feel like the way to experience it is to just kind of let the movie happen and don't try too hard. It's a very interesting and different way to watch a movie but I kind of love it for that. Each frame and scene is so jam packed with gags and details that if your eyes just wander around you're destined to find something interesting

And while on the subject of French comedy, I love Playtime, but in my opinion, the Discreet Charm of the Bourgeoisie is the funniest movie ever made. It's from the 70s and while a very different presentation of humor compared to Playtime, it's a very similar style. Very absurd and surreal, jumping from one thing to another with no transition. Scenes lasting much longer than they seemingly should. The whole plot is a bunch of rich people want to eat dinner, but each time they try something gets in the way. I don't want to spoil any of the gags, but it has the best use of "It was all a dream" ever. Highly highly recommend
