As the title says, hit me with your horror movie recommendations for October! Hoping to be able to squeeze in two or three! 🎃

Also, I want to keep away from franchises for now. 😊 Already on my radar are:

Hereditary
The Thing

I'm going to ask this question on my YT community tab too, but I'll bring the choices back here for you guys to help me narrow things down.

Hereditary works as it's pretty much a throwback to the classics, but a solid horror primer would be a good place to start. Maybe 60's and work your way forward. So classics first as you'll then recognize where all the modern films get their material from ;) So late 60's-80's classics is stuff like 'Psycho', 'Night of the Living Dead', 'The Shining', 'The Exorcist', 'Alien', 'Rosemary's Baby', 'A Clockwork Orange', 'The Thing (1982)', 'The Changeling', 'Halloween (1978)', 'Evil Dead (would start with the initial Sam Raimi trilogy)', 'The Fly (1986)', 'Carrie', 'The Dead Zone', 'A Nightmare on Elm Street', etc...etc....etc... This list could kind of go on forever but those are a bunch of the highlights. There's some notable entries in the 90's and 2000's as well, but much of it has it's roots in the the 60's-80's stuff. Those later decades did usher in (for better and worse) the found footage genre, so of course I'd be remiss to not mention 'Blair Witch', or 'Paranormal Activity', both huge mainstays of the subgenre. I know someone mentioned The Cabin in the Woods, and I do sincerely adore that film, but I'd personally avoid it if possible until you've seen at least a good variety of horror as it relies on you understanding the major tropes of the genre to really get the full bang for your buck on it. If you'd like something more modern, I'd suggest 'Ex Machina' or 'Moon' from the indie horror genre as they're more on the original side rather than relying on many of those aforementioned tropes (Ex Machina being the much more widely known of those two). The real problem with modern horror is that the best of the stuff is either indie or foreign. Some absolutely amazing stuff to watch, but not sure how it's going to do you for viewership. A couple of the modern(ish) foreign exceptional standouts would be 'Let the Right One In' (Definitely the 2008 Swedish original), 'Train to Busan' or 'REC'. All of those have been crossover hits here in the states, two of which have American remakes that pale in comparison to the originals. Horror is a personal favorite genre, so this really is one I could go on with suggestions for days on. But since this is more likely a seasonal thing I'll keep it to the basics above for starters.

Hopefully Everafter

After reading the comments, you said not to mention franchises so I won't. I also will consider possible thrillers/horrors: Redlights The Ritual (Netflix 2017) Black Phone Paranorman (<---- ) Will add more later if anything comes to mind.
