Movie run-time: 1 hour, 48 mins
Watched on: Prime Video (UK)

For copyright reasons, full-length reactions don't include the show or movie footage so you'll need to have your own copy to watch along with me. Ideally, you'll need two screens or two browser windows. One for the reaction, and the other for the show you're watching. Using your mobile is also viable to watch one of them.

As many different streaming services in different countries often play trailers or recaps before the show starts, the easiest way I've found to sync up footage is to find the first frame of the episode, generally right after the opening credits finish on your own copy (unless of course, the show has a cold open), then pause it. Don't worry, I show you the frame to look for at the beginning of each full-length reaction! Next, play the reaction and you'll see a countdown timer at the end of the intro and when the show is about to start. Press "play" on your copy when the timer reaches 0:00.

A small (but muted) portion of the show will stay on the screen to allow you to properly sync up your copy if you need to adjust it. The easiest way to eliminate any small discrepancies between the two is to rapidly pause and unpause the video that's ahead until both are running simultaneously.

October is my least favorite month of the year with all the horror. lol. And that is not a normal human kidney. That's a cow kidney. I guess they couldn't find a pig kidney.

Great reaction as always and you nailed it on the takeaway. This is a brilliant character study in isolation, paranoia, and slow-burn tension. Excellent score by Ennio Morricone, and some amazing performances from some of the best character actors working at that time. It also contains some of the best practical effects ever put on film, most of which still hold up to this day. Rob Bottin was a genius in that regard. This was a remake/retelling of the 1951 film 'The Thing from Another World'. But this is far more faithful to the vibe of the source material, which was a short story entitled 'Who Goes There?'. Fun anecdotal, my father had seen the 51 film when he was a kid, so took me to see this in theaters in 1982 when I was 11 thinking it would be similar. Suffice it to say, between dog heads splitting open, chests splitting in half and devouring arms, and severed heads growing spider legs, it was NOT what he expected to subject his son to. Made me a lifelong horror fan though...lol...Also a great memory we still laugh about regularly. There's also a great short story (available for free now) that was written for Science Fiction & Fantasy Magazine back around 2010 retelling this entire film from the perspective of the alien entitled 'The Things'. Great short read if you're ever interested and have the time. Also a prequel film from 2011 telling the story of what went on at the Norwegian camp. Not a personal favorite, but worth watching at least once at some point, as you might have a different takeaway. Short story link.... https://clarkesworldmagazine.com/watts_01_10/

I'm so sorry! ("Normal" movies will resume in November - starting with Saving Private Ryan). 😊
