Awesome I can’t wait to read everyone’s stories!!!

Lugoplasa

I like beyond the horizon for Alissanne but I choose Half Breed for give me a new perspective of the history of a character take for granted as is Imina also the other history where great no the best of the best but still great lecture.

Adrián Churape

Hey, I understand, although I feel like it ended abruptly, it was the only one that really ventured to use a character from the original cast.

Anon7274

Honestly, I think with a little alterations, you could incorporate some of these stories into the TWTS. With the writer’s permission of course.

Chloe Tkach

While it is true that it’s interesting to witness the struggles of Elves and Half-Elves alike, Reaunet Vermilion is a canonical character in the series. They changed it to Loune in the anime, but his name is Reaunet in the light novels.

The strangest cult to ever exist definitely has this one. aside form just being the best written and believably filling in a gap on the original story, it also gave us some good old nazarick weirdness, which i have missed a good deal.

Chloe Tkach

Thank you! I must admit, I giggled like a schoolgirl when I read your comment. If you don't mind me asking, which was your favourite part, or when did you laugh/smile the most? I enjoy sprinkling in humour in all of my stories.

anon

probably the part where where he got caught in the gossip group. Him getting his nails pained was both cute and funny

Dam-O

Omg my story has a couple of votes thank you guys so much it was the first story I have ever written so I’m glad you have enjoyed also everyone’s stories are great!

Blackjack

Well, I lost, anyway, GG, good game everybody, many fantastic stories were made and congratulations to ChloeTkach for their victory.

Roberto C

Congratulations to the winner. The Strangest cult feels solid. I do agree that some of the fics could fit at the TWATS. In regards to Imina, I found her as an interesting character to write about, without many halfbreeds out there, there must be a reason why. For instance, Erya Uzruth using her elf slaves for sexual release over and over, and no children.. though we have the very existence of Zesshi. I theorized that for impregnation there must be purpose. So Imina's parents must have loved each other. Other interesting characters to write about had been Nynia, Tuare. But both of them have some Lore that might distance themselves from TWATS AU

Thank you for all the congratulations and votes! I had a lot of fun with this challenge, and I hope that this won’t be the only one. It was also very interesting to read others’ work and art. I didn’t wish to air out my own detailed review of the stories lest I influence the poll unduly, but I feel secure to do so now. Without further ado, I will proceed to post said feedback in order of the files.

Beyond the Horizon Cons: 1) There’s significant lack of physical descriptions for most of the characters, with the exception of the old Master and Princess. Granted, there’s usually a bit of leeway in terms of fanfics, as you are reusing characters we are already familiar with from the main source. However, when it concerns OCs or minor characters that have little screen time, it is important that establish appearances so that the readers know what to picture mentally. Especially the MC. For the longest time, the story’s MC age kept flip-flopping for me bc I didn’t know what to see. Is he eight years old? Fourteen? Perhaps even a young man? Even if you are unable to give a decent description (for the moment, and for whatever reason) it’s vital that you at least provide context clues. Is he school age, or old enough to hold a job for example. Emotional behaviours are… okay, but not reliable as emotional maturity is not guaranteed with age, especially in emotional-charged situations. Yes, you do eventually drop his 16th birthday on us. But it comes too late, and by that point my brain had already decided that he was 8 years old, and the correction is both distracting and causes me to disengage from the story momentarily. 2) A forgotten quotation mark in the dialogue line of “… and that means you know how to obey.” This causes the reader to go into the next paragraph thinking it’s still dialogue, before correcting themselves when it becomes apparent that’s not the case. 3) Improper use of “Your Majesty” in regard to the Princess. Kings and Queens are to be addressed as such, but their children use the honorifics of “Your Highness.” Pros: 1) Complex characterization and emotion shown by the MC. It can be difficult to express character development in a 6k word limit, so it was a pleasant surprise to witness not only his controversial (yet understandable) anger towards the adventurers in the beginning, but also his growth as an individual when he expresses remorse for his past behaviour. The Grandfather bit at the end was also touching. 2) Aside from the examples I provided prior, your grammar and spelling is good. I especially appreciate how you address characters (in dialogue) with proper commas and split paragraphs at the correct time/sequence, which not all fanfic authors know how to do. Even native speakers.

Haven Hold Cons: 1) There are several run-on sentences that makes it difficult to follow along, both in narration/exposition and dialogue. I suggest you try to shorten your sentences by either comma, periods, or otherwise cutting down the unnecessary words. 2) Throughout the story, there are multiple examples of missing commas, periods, question marks and exclamation points surrounding quotations, and dialogue tags. 2.3) The dialogue tag of ‘Orion Scoffed’ should not have been capitalized, nor included in the quotation marks. Instead, you should sandwich the dialogue tag with dashes. Ex: “I can’t believe” —she wheezes, bent over and clutching her stomach— “that you actually fell for it!” 2.5) Lack of comma when a character addressed the commander. A single comma can change an entire sentence, such as the use of “Let’s eat Grandma!” vs “Let’s eat, Grandma!” 2.7) Improper use of “Her Highness” concerning the Queen. Rulers are to be addressed with “Majesty” while their children are “Highness.” 3) The ending is abrupt and doesn’t give the readers any sense of closure, even as an ‘open-end’ I assume you aimed for. Pros: 1) The economic and military narration/talk was interesting, and made me interested in the nation’s well-belling. Placing the characters in a middle of war, and with the odds stacked against them, is an excellent way to get the readers attached to them, and engaged with the story. 1.5) It was also curious to witness a different nation’s opinion about the new war, in which they aren’t apart of, and how other nobles feel about our favourite skeleton. 2) Other than the grammar mistakes I stated prior, your spelling is good, and I also appreciate how you make sure that a new paragraph is made each time the speaker changes.

Lin’s future 1) Having Lin’s (narrated, unvoiced) questions being answered by Theo is a tad jarring and makes the reader wonder if they’ve read the above paragraphs incorrectly. The first time can be excused easily enough by Theo putting himself in Lin’s shoes, but the second time definitely produces some confusion. 2) Some of your paragraphs are too big, with sentences too long. It makes the reader go slightly cross eyed, or get lost. 3) Forgot a comma when Lin addressed “Mr. Holy Knight.” 4) For some of the lengthier dialogue breaks, it’s confusing who is speaking. The easy fix is dialogue tags, or other name drops/body descriptions. 5) Lin addressing Mar as a girl in the diary, when Lin previously shown she’s aware or Mar’s true gender in the above scene, is distracting. It causes me to second-guess which scene is supposed to take place first. 6) I have no idea who Theo really is. OC? A minor character from the New World I completely forgot about? In the middle, I thought I had cracked the code and Theo is really Pandora, but the diary section dissuades me of that. This single, unanswered question frequently pops up throughout the story and distracts me from Lin. 7) Too much exposition, when the same information can be expressed through a well-rounded conversation/conflict between characters directly. Pros: 1) Good spelling overall. You also make a new paragraph each time a new character speaks. 2) From what I’ve observed from the light novels, Lin stays within character constantly. All sentiments and behaviours your Lin shows, I can see the canon version doing/having. 3) Decent closure provided from the time skips.

Chloe Tkach

Tale of Beasts and gold Cons: 1) There are several run-on sentences and spellings errors. Such as “to” vs “too,” “bine” vs “been,” “lissen” vs “listen,” misspellings of “Abigail,” “award” vs “aware,” “snake man gaga” vs “naga,” “unconcise” vs “unconscious,” and “fait” vs “fate” to name a few of them. 1.5) A lack of proper commas when a character is addressing another directly in dialogue. 2) While it’s easy enough to assume the MC is at least a young adult with a job of adventurer, there is still a notable lack of physical description. Pros: 1) Aside from the MC, all of the important characters are given proper descriptions. 2) I enjoyed the theatrics of the MC trying to buy time, only to learn of a good friend’s death. 3) Decent closure from a battle hard won.

Chloe Tkach

Half Breed Chronicles Cons: 1) An excessive use of pure exposition, when much of the same information could be better passed along by the characters talking and interacting with each other directly. While some exposition will always be necessary, it will never be as interesting, or keep a reader’s attention, as conflict or dialogue does. 2) Minor spelling mistakes, most prominent in the lengthy speech Imina gives her dad. Or the unnecessary capitalization of “Bow,” “Jobs,” and “Maybe” in the second half. 3) The random changes of POV. It’s frankly jarring, and the same information is easily done in the third POV you’ve stuck to for most of the story. 4) While the use of dashes or quotation marks are both grammatically correct, I suggest you pick only one of them for dialogue. 5) Some of your larger paragraphs are better served split into smaller ones. Pros: 1) Complex emotions and inter-character relationships. It was a delight to follow Imina in her journey, and to witness her change of feelings in regard to her dad. 1.2) There was realism in the way she was unable to properly bond with her fellow kids, and the confusion and horror as her worldview shifted at the end. Very good. 1.5) it’s always gratifying to see characters get development/grow as a person, and you not only set up an excellent stage for Imina, but successfully pulled it off. 2) Other than what I’ve states prior, your grammar and spelling is overall decent. 3) Best ending I’ve read for the other stories. It fills the readers with a sense of pride and hope for Imina’s future.

For my own story, I can recognize couple instances that I could have made the sentence shorter/flow smoother, and a forgotten word in the second half. I also regret that I hadn’t described Reaunet’s age and physical appearance as quickly as I could have, potentially leading to some confusion for the readers. Although I am otherwise proud of my excellent grammar and spelling, and the way I’ve managed to keep the various characters reasonably in character. I do hope that my humour has landed with the readers as intended, and that I never bore you guys with any of the exposition. If anyone disagrees with what I’ve said, or wish to add their own input, either for my own story or someone else’s, I welcome any debate or comments! Thank you again for all votes, everyone! And I hope we will all continue to grow as authors!
