Chapter 2: The Journey Begins
“Bye, everyone! Thanks for everything!” I shouted at the top of my lungs, waving excitedly at the villagers as Tiche and I slowly sailed away.
After two long years, the time had finally come for me to begin my journey, and I was so excited I hadn’t even been able to sleep the night before.
During the last month, I made sure to visit Dadan and Makino more often, now that I wasn’t training like a maniac every day.
I could tell they both appreciated it, even if Dadan never showed it on her face. Still, I knew she was a softie at heart.
A few days ago, it had suddenly hit me that the small fishing boat old man Woop Slap had given me was way too small for both me and Tiche. I’d panicked for a bit, but she reassured me she’d handle it.
The next day, she told me it was taken care of.
I hadn’t even noticed her leaving, so I figured she must’ve done it during the night.
Now, we were sailing on a boat at least three times bigger than the original, complete with a small cabin for resting and storing supplies.
Since no one in the village knew about Tiche, she was currently inside that cabin, staying out of sight while I said my goodbyes.
For the occasion, I wore a red cardigan—similar to the one Luffy would get after the timeskip—along with long black shorts, a belt, and my treasured straw hat resting comfortably on my head.
I wasn’t a big fan of shorts if I’m being honest, but I learned quickly that unless I wanted to constantly replace torn pants, I had to get used to them. My fighting style, and my rubber body, demanded freedom of movement.
The change I was happiest about, though, was my height.
Instead of being around 172 cm like I remembered, I now stood at a respectable 177, putting me on the same height as Zoro and Sanji.
It never made sense to me why Luffy was so short when his father and especially his grandfather were really tall—256 cm and 287 cm, respectively. Then again, this world had people like Whitebeard and Big Mom who were freaking huge and were not even giants.
Maybe it had something to do with my Devil Fruit.
Either way… it was not a problem anymore since the Gacha most likely fixed that small issue.
“Makino! Thanks for always taking care of me when I was younger! I’ll never forget your kindness!” I shouted, snapping out of my thoughts.
Makino waved back, tears streaming down her face, though she was smiling.
“Take care of yourself out there, Luffy!”
“I will!” I called back, grinning.
My gaze shifted to another part of the shore, where Dadan and her bandits stood, arms crossed, clearly trying—and failing—to look inconspicuous.
“Dadan! Thanks for everything!” I shouted, catching her off guard. “I really don’t like mountain bandits—”
She huffed angrily.
“—but I like you guys. Take care!”
At that, Dadan immediately burst into tears, pulling out a handkerchief.
“Stop talking nonsense and just go already, you bastard!” she yelled, her voice breaking.
“Shishishi, I knew you loved me! See ya!” I laughed, holding onto my hat as a strong gust of wind swept past, casting a shadow over my eyes.
That woman… even without any blood relation to me, Ace, or Sabo… was the closest thing I had to a mother in this world.
And for that, she would always hold a place in my heart.
‘Don’t worry, Dadan… I’ll make sure Ace doesn’t die in my arms this time.’
My hand clenched into a fist as the memory of her devastated expression resurfaced.
Suddenly, I felt it.
A presence, or voice, below the surface.
The water behind me began to churn.
I turned just as it rose—splitting apart—
And a massive sea serpent emerged.
The same one that had taken Shanks’ left arm or as it was known to the locals, the Lord of the Coast.
“Long time no see, you bastard fish,” I muttered with a grin, briefly resting my hand on my revolver before pulling it away.
The sea serpent growled, fixing me with a predatory gaze as it opened its massive jaws.
As much as I wanted to kill the damn thing for taking Shanks’ arm… it still served as a sort of deterrent, keeping weaker pirates away from Foosha Village.
“You’re lucky you’re useful,” I muttered. “Otherwise, I’d be having you for lunch.”
Grabbing my right shoulder with my left hand, I stretched my arm far back.
“Gum Gum…”
Then I snapped it forward.
My fist slammed into the side of its jaw, knocking out several teeth and sending the massive creature crashing unconscious into the sea.
“Pistol!”
Yeah, I knew shouting attack names was kind of stupid, but the kid in me thought it was cool as hell.
I stood there proudly as our boat sailed past the unconscious beast.
Right then, a notification appeared in front of me.

“How convenient. Well… let’s roll,” I muttered.
[Rolling…]
[Adept Spycraft]
|Elite Skill|
You are a real spy, the kind that would infiltrate other countries and make James Bond proud. You are skilled at gathering information, infiltrating places, acting, masking your real emotions, effectively using disguises, reading people, and if need be, you can handle yourself well in combat using Knives, Guns and Hand-to-Hand Combat. While not a match for fellow adepts in any one of those skills, they make you an effective spy.
Immediately after that I held my head for a moment due to a headache of having all that information shoved into my brain before I shook it off seconds later.
“Hmm… looks like I finally caught a break,” I said thoughtfully. “With this, my Honesty Curse should be neutralized. I can actually lie now if I want to.”
I paused, considering it.
“Not that it really affected me that much… and I don’t suddenly feel like lying all the time either. Still, getting rid of that restriction is nice, and I’ve got better gun skills now too.”
Shrugging, I turned toward the cabin.
“It’s safe to come out now, Tiche. We’re far enough from the island.”
A moment later, the door opened, and Tiche stepped out, dressed in a simple black shirt and skirt, her dagger resting against her back.
“Are we still following the course you set, Master?” she asked, pulling out a map and compass.
“Yeah. First stop is Goat Island, Alvida’s base. We’ll pick up Koby there, then head to Shells Town so I can grab my first mate… and our navigator,” I said with a nod, before scratching the back of my head sheepishly.
“Shishishi… sorry in advance for being terrible at navigation, Tiche. I’ll be relying on you for that.”
“It’s not a problem, Master,” she replied calmly as she adjusted the sail. “I’m confident I can guide us through the East Blue. The Grand Line, however, will be a different matter. Standard navigation methods are unreliable there from the information you’ve shared with me.”
“Don’t worry, we’ll have the best navigator by then,” I said confidently. “Just remind me to buy some Log Poses before we get there, just in case.”
“Noted.”
“Well… guess there’s nothing to do now but wait,” I said, sitting down and leaning against the wooden railing.
“You should rest, Master. You didn’t sleep last night. I will wake you if anything happens, or when we reach our destination,” Tiche said, taking a seat across from me.
“Will do. Thanks, Tiche.”
Giving her a grateful smile, I lowered my straw hat over my eyes and relaxed.
Within minutes, I was asleep.
=====
Several Hours Later
Feeling a soft hand gently shake my shoulder, I blinked my eyes open and let out a long yawn. Tiche was crouched beside me.
“We’ve arrived at Goat Island, Master. As you described, there’s a pink ship with a heart-shaped Jolly Roger docked on the far side of the island. How do you wish to proceed?” she asked calmly, handing me a large piece of meat.
Taking it, I swallowed it whole, silently thanking her before getting to my feet and stretching. My gaze shifted toward the island as I observed it carefully.
“Let’s drop anchor here. No point risking damage to the ship, and there’s no way in hell I’m taking Alvida’s ugly thing,” I said with a nod, cracking my knuckles as I felt adrenaline pump into my veins. “The shore is not very far anyways.”
“Very well.”
Tiche moved without hesitation, dropping anchor before stepping back to my side.
“Ready?” I asked.
She nodded.
Crouching slightly, I launched myself into the air, covering a large distance in a single leap, with Tiche right behind me.
As we began to descend, we both kicked off the air, using Geppo, to propel ourselves even higher.
Tiche, being the devoted assassin she was, had picked up Rokushiki incredibly quickly. She wasn’t far behind me in its application, which said a lot, considering my rubber body and natural strength gave me a significant advantage.
As we moved, I extended my senses, searching for the weakest presence using Observation Haki.
Ready or not, Koby… today’s your lucky day. Your days of serving as a chore boy for pirates are over.
Using both my Haki and my newly acquired Spycraft skills, I guided us toward a quieter part of the island, away from the pirates.
We landed moments later, touching down silently.
“Come on. This way,” I said, already moving, following the faint presence I had locked onto.
Tiche followed closely behind.
Despite all our training, she still hadn’t been able to unlock Haki unfortunately. At this point, I figured it might be because she wasn’t originally from this world.
She’d been disappointed, thinking she’d failed me, but I made sure to reassure her. It wasn’t her fault, and there were plenty of other ways for her to grow stronger.
She took that to heart.
Since then, she had thrown herself into mastering Rokushiki, making rapid progress. Combined with her blade—capable of inflicting wounds that resisted healing and bypassed most defenses, I had no doubt she’d become a terrifying assassin.
Maybe even on par with… or surpassing… CP0.
Moving quietly through the forest, it only took a few minutes before we found him.
A short boy with pink hair and oversized round glasses sat alone on a tree stump, slowly eating what looked like a stale piece of bread.
“Hey there. Are you a pirate?” I called out cheerfully, raising a hand in greeting without a care in the world.
Koby startled, choking on his bread as he frantically pounded his chest. After a moment, he managed to catch his breath and looked toward us in shock.
“W-Who are you?” he stammered, fidgeting nervously. His eyes landed on me, then shifted to Tiche, a faint blush rising on his cheeks as her beautiful appearance. “D-Don’t you know this island is under the control of the terrible pirate, Iron Mace Alvida?!”
“So you are a pirate,” I grinned, ignoring most of his rambling as I stepped closer, Tiche silent at my side. “Name’s Monkey D. Luffy, future King of the Pirates. Guess that makes us enemies, huh?”
“I-I’m Koby! And I’m not really a pirate—wait!” He froze, clearly only now processing what I’d said. “K-K-King of the Pirates!? Y-You mean you’re after the One Piece?!”
“Yep,” I nodded.
“T-That’s impossible! Wealth, fame, power, you’d have to achieve everything! Do you want to die!? Every pirate out there is chasing that dream!” Koby burst out.
“And so am I,” I replied calmly.
“But the odds are insane! You want to become King of the Pirates in the Golden Age of Piracy!? It’ll never happen!”
I sighed, then bonked him lightly on the head since he didn’t appear to be anywhere near done with his rant.
“Hey! W-Why’d you hit me!?” Koby yelped, clutching his head.
“Because you were getting hysterical,” I shrugged.
“...I’m used to it,” he mumbled with a weak laugh as he looked down and rubbed the back of his head.
Seeing his depressed mood, I figured I’d cheer him up a bit since this kid really looked like he needed it.
Then my expression turned serious.
“I’m not afraid to die chasing my dream, Koby.”
Tiche’s face twitched slightly at that, probably not liking that I was mentioning dying so casually but I ignored it.
“A while ago, I decided I’d find the One Piece. And if I die trying… then at least I’ll know I gave it everything I had.”
I adjusted my straw hat slightly, remembering the promise I had made to Shanks.
“Besides… don’t you have a dream too? From the way you’re acting, I’m guessing you’re not exactly thrilled about being a cabin boy for someone like Alvida.”
Koby blinked, clearly caught off guard.
“Y-You’re really not afraid to die…?” he asked, quieter now.
“Nope,” I said with a grin. “And I think I’ve got a pretty good shot at it, too.”
Just the Chaos Gacha alone was a game changer, but when you also added in the ridiculous powers I’d unlock once my Devil Fruit awakened, then it was practically a done deal. Unlocking Gear 5 meant I would basically have the bullshit abilities of Toon Force which was ridiculous but I guess it’s to be expected from a Devil Fruit with the name of a God.
Koby stared at me for a moment.
Then his hands clenched.
“...Maybe… I could be like that,” he whispered, tears beginning to fall.
I raised an eyebrow but stayed silent, letting him continue.
“…Maybe it’s possible,” he said, voice shaking, but stronger now. “Do you think I could join the Navy?”
“The Navy, huh…” I muttered.
“We might end up as enemies,” he admitted. “But I want to join the Navy and fight bad people! It’s been my dream since I was a kid!”
He stood up straighter, meeting my gaze.
“Luffy-san… do you think I can do it?”
I chuckled, then reached out and patted his shoulder.
“That’s not something I can answer,” I said. “Only you can, Koby.”
For a moment, he just stood there.
Then—
“Then I’m doing it!” he shouted. “What do I have to lose!? I don’t want to spend my life as some miserable cabin boy! I’d rather risk everything chasing my dream!”
His eyes burned with determination.
“I’ll join the Navy… and then… I’ll take down Alvida!”
“Well said,” I muttered.
I stepped forward—
—and caught a massive iron mace mid-swing.
The impact thudded against my palm but it didn’t manage to move me at all.
“Who exactly are you planning to take down, runt!?” a furious voice roared.
Standing there was one of the ugliest and fattest women I’d seen in this life so far, she basically looked like a mini whale.
Alvida.
“Sorry, but you’re in the way of Koby’s dream,” I said calmly, finally drawing Alvida’s full attention. She blinked in confusion, clearly not expecting her attack to do nothing. “If you want revenge, you’re welcome to come after me anytime.”
“Who are you!?” she snapped, eyes narrowing as she took in the katana at my waist. “Are you Pirate Hunter Roronoa Zoro? Here for my bounty?”
She tried to yank her mace free from my grip, only to fail.
“Nope,” I said with a grin. “I’m Monkey D. Luffy. Future King of the Pirates… and the guy who’s about to kick your ass.”
I tightened my grip.
Crack.
Her iron mace fractured, then shattered completely.
“Wha—Impossible!” Alvida stumbled back in shock.
“So long, fat whale~” I said cheerfully, stretching both arms far behind me.
Gasps spread through the surrounding pirates as they watched my limbs extend, everyone except Tiche, who remained completely unfazed.
“Gum Gum…”
I snapped forward.
“Bazooka!”
Both fists slammed into Alvida’s stomach as I ignored the grossed out feeling at touching all that fat.
She coughed up blood as the force launched her skyward, flying off into the distance in classic anime fashion until she vanished from sight.
“Shishishi… I always wanted to do that~” I grinned, straightening up and placing my hands on my hips in satisfaction.
I slowly turned toward the rest of her crew, who had joined us the same time as Alvida.
They stood frozen—eyes wide, mouths hanging open, some with snot running down their noses—as they stared at me in complete shock.
I let my gaze sweep over them.
“So… anyone else?”
