Chapter 55: A World of Excess
Watching as Makoto walked through a portal leading back to his Earth before it closed behind him, I silently wished him good luck, not surprised at his decision.
After calming down from my little scare, he had made a complicated expression before declaring that he wanted to go back home. He had tried interacting with the local populace, but like I had warned him, they instantly attacked him out of fear despite anything he tried to do.
The second time he tried his luck, hopeful now that he could actually communicate with them, had been met with the same response. Going even further, the townspeople, seeing as their attacks weren’t working, decided to actually abandon their homes and the town entirely, leaving Makoto the only one remaining.
During the days that he had stayed here by himself, Makoto seriously pondered the pros and cons of staying in this world and ultimately decided that he wanted to go back home if the danger the Goddess posed was erased.
Throughout it, I had stayed silent, letting him talk, and decided to keep it to myself that if he really wanted to stay here, I could help him out by placing a seal on him similar to the ones Captains and Lieutenants from Bleach had placed on them when traveling to the Human World.
Before leaving, though, he turned to me and handed me a small tree and a blue orb, to my curiosity, as he explained that those were gifts Tsukuyomi had left for Makoto to give to me. In his words, they were gifts for taking care of the bitchy Goddess.
I only nodded and opened a portal for him, and that was that.
“What do you think, Astra? These don’t seem dangerous to me at all,” I muttered as I examined the items in my hands with a curious look.
“Upon further analysis, there seems to be no traps or monitoring spells in either item, Caius-sama. Curiously enough, they seem to resonate slightly with the Demiplane,” Astra informed me a moment later.
“Hmm, the Demiplane, huh? Well, as long as there’s no harm, I don’t see why we can’t see what they do later,” I said with a shrug before absorbing them into my Imaginary Space.
“Anyway, Astra, we’ve spent enough time in this world. How go preparations?” I asked as I teleported to an open field.
“Preparations have been ready for a while now, of course. Opening portal now,” Astra said with a chirp in her tone, and the moment she said that, a portal appeared before me.
“This will be our final world, huh?” I muttered as I felt a mix of anxiousness and nervousness hit me at the thought that we would soon arrive in the Cardinal World.
‘I wonder what I will find once we get there? There are so many questions that still plague me even now about my unique existence and how I came to possess Rimuru’s skills,’ I silently wondered.
“I apologize, Master, but I cannot give a concrete answer with such little data. What I can say with certainty is that Caius-sama has already become a unique existence completely separate from the being known as Rimuru Tempest, whether they are related or not. Furthermore, no matter what happens, I will always be by Caius-sama’s side as both a partner and his first wife,” Astra reassured me with her soft and calm voice.
‘Thank you, my lovely wife. I needed that.’ Shaking those thoughts away, a smile lit up my face as I thanked my Manas, who had always been there for me, to my relief.
“There’s no need. I was just doing my duties,” Astra replied as I felt warm and content all of a sudden, as if someone had just hugged my soul gently.
“Regardless of what answers lay ahead, I won’t have to wait much longer to find them. Now, let’s see what world awaits us,” I declared with an excited grin, receiving a hum of encouragement from my other half.
Without looking back, I stepped into the portal and we disappeared from the world of Tsukimichi entirely.
=====
Unknown Universe
Stepping out of the portal, I raised an eyebrow as instead of being greeted by alien landscapes not found on Earth, different constellations in the sky, or even a different number of moons in the sky, there was nothing.
Literally nothing, as in everywhere I looked, there was just emptiness for as far as the eye could see.
The only reason I didn’t think we were currently in the void of space was the iridescent colors that this dimension, or whatever it was, seemed to give off.
‘Did we miss our landing?’ I thought curiously as I looked down at my hand and closed and opened it several times as I felt some kind of force trying to interact with me, as if it had a mind of its own, before soon losing interest and leaving me be.
“…Weird,” I muttered with a blink before frowning as I stretched my senses and felt a massive signature out in the distance that was really strong.
Like Soul King strong.
“Caius-sama, based on my initial analysis, we appear to be in a dimension that exists between three different realities, but overall, we seem to be in the right coordinates. I would recommend caution for the time being until we know exactly where we are,” Astra relayed calmly to the back of my mind.
“Hmm, so you’re saying I shouldn’t go over and introduce myself to whoever is broadcasting their presence without a care in the world?” I asked playfully with a raised eyebrow, smiling wider when I heard an exasperated sigh.
“…Yes, that’s exactly what I’m saying, Master. Please remember that this is a new world, and while I don’t see a possibility of you losing from what I’m sensing, we must still be cautious,” Astra reminded me in a chiding tone.
“Wahaha, relax, Astra. I agree with you,” I said with a careless laugh, having already made sure to completely erase my presence from anyone.
“Though, you sure sound confident in our abilities,” I commented idly as I turned my head toward where I could sense that gigantic presence. “From what I can gather, whoever that is, is sure something else and must be one of the strongest of this universe. If we hadn’t devoured the Soul King and that shitty Goddess, I don’t know if I could pull off an easy win.”
“Hmph, correct, but even without those two factors, Master and I would still come out on top since they would be fighting two against one,” Astra cutely let out a proud huff, sounding slightly offended at the mere thought of me losing.
“Heh, of course we would,” I declared in a cocky and confident tone before my expression turned thoughtful.
“Though, in between three realities, huh? That really doesn’t narrow down our location. This sounds like plenty of universes with the typical Earth, Heaven, and Underworld realms,” I hummed while thinking of the many possibilities.
“Correct. My suggestion is making our way to one of the realities connected to this one to see if we can find out more clues,” Astra suggested as she turned serious once more.
“Hmm, now that we’re here, are you able to detect which reality has more presences? If this universe follows the same theme, then it stands to reason that the reality with the most presences is the human realm,” I relayed, taking an educated guess based on how many times that had happened in anime and manga.
“Though, I wouldn’t mind popping into one of the others and causing some chaos too~” I grinned widely, already picturing all of the problems I could cause with my mere presence.
“Already done. Ready to leave at your call,” Astra immediately answered before letting out a small sigh. “And please at least wait until we know where we are before you start causing trouble.”
“No promises,” I said in return with a smile as a portal appeared in front of me again, leading out of this weird realm and hopefully into the human world.
Taking one more look where I still sensed that massive presence, I smirked before letting my power pulse for a moment, sort of like a sonar, and feeling it travel across this void before reaching the presence seconds later.
It immediately became apparent that they felt it as I felt their presence spike in response and send a challenging pulse in return as it came to a stop.
“Heh, so it’s territorial,” I muttered with a grin before shaking my head and walking through the portal as I felt Astra’s annoyance. “I’ll be sure to come back later, whoever you are.”
With those last words I disappeared from the strange void I was in and reappeared in a desert this time, immediately taking to the skies as I took in the familiar scene of another version of Earth, going by the same constellations and moon in the sky.
“…At least we’re on Earth and not some strange planet,” I muttered with a bit of satisfaction.
I took a moment to take in my surroundings, even checking the positions of the stars in the sky and comparing them to what I knew before I came to a realization as a frown grew on my face.
“Haah, well fuck. While we’re definitely on Earth, we’re unfortunately sometime in the past. As for our location, I can only take a guess and say somewhere in Africa going by the endless sand in every direction,” I muttered with a small sigh of annoyance, since I wouldn’t get to experience the comforts of the modern world.
“Caius-sama, I’m detecting several presences that seem to be in conflict south of your location. On a curious note, the presences themselves seem demonic and holy in nature,” Astra informed me with a curious tone before going silent as if she was thinking over something.
“Holy and Demonic?” I asked with a raised eyebrow, that detail definitely catching my interest. “Was there something else? You paused there at the end.”
It took another few moments before Astra answered again. “I apologize. I was just analyzing the mana around us and there appears to be a different energy that I can sense. From what I can tell, this energy seems to emanate from the world itself, though it appears to be hostile.”
I blinked at the specific description before blurting out the first thing that popped into my head. “Life energy? Senjutsu perhaps? That’s the only thing that I can think would feel hostile coming from nature.”
“…Perhaps. I will run a full analysis and let you know the results,” Astra declared in a giddy tone, happy for a chance to be her usual nerdy self.
“Hmph, I’m not a nerd. Also, I found a similar signature in both nature and strength to the one we encountered in the other realm, so please be careful,” Astra huffed before going quiet again as she got to work.
“Another one, huh?” I muttered as I grabbed my chin as slowly the list of choices of our location were becoming thinner before shrugging a moment later.
“Well, I could sit here and ponder all day, but thankfully there’s another choice, so let’s crash the party,” I grinned as I let my wings free and headed south, still feeling plenty of presences clashing in the distance.
=====
Moments Later
With my presence completely invisible from those around me unless they were around my level of strength, I keenly observed the battle below between the forces of light and darkness, as cliché as that sounded.
“Let’s see, two strong beings almost on par with me? Check,” I said, recalling the strong presences we had sensed.
“Bat wings? Check,” I muttered with a blank tone as I observed what could only be demons or devils fighting with magic and various weapons while dressed in gaudy-looking clothes that wouldn’t look out of place in a museum.
As for the demons/devils themselves, they wouldn’t look out of place next to regular humans, with only some of them having a pair of horns, elongated ears, or something that made them look different from the average person.
My head then turned toward who they were fighting against, with my eyes immediately zeroing in on the golden halo above their heads and white wings on their backs.
Angels.
Those could be nothing but Angels, with the usual stereotypical looks most modern civilizations viewed them as, with their blonde hair and either green or blue eyes.
Already having an angel myself as a subordinate in Jibril, their looks didn’t grab my attention other than the brief first glance I gave them at the start.
No, my gaze focused on a specific angel, the leader from the looks of things, as he led from the back with his three pairs of wings out for everyone to see.
“Angels with multiple wings? Check,” I muttered as my tone became devoid of all emotion before letting my gaze wander to the final proof I needed to figure out what world we were in, while inwardly praying that it wasn’t true.
‘Please, please, let it not be the case.’
With dread in my heart, I let my gaze settle on the women of both groups and couldn’t help but groan silently and hold my forehead as my fears were confirmed.
Every woman, either angel or demon/devil, was extremely beautiful, having bodies supermodels would be jealous of, and the most telling of all was the exaggerated swaying of their breasts for any minimal movement.
“Fuuuuccckkkk. I’m in anime tiddy world, aren’t I?” I let out with an audible groan as I ran my hand down my face in frustration.
At that moment Astra chimed in, confirming my fears.
“That appears to be the case, yes,” Astra said with a blank tone, as if not knowing how to feel about the fact. “On a positive note, with Great Red and Ophis being considered Dragon Gods by this world’s standards, there is a possibility we could use them to finally elevate you into a True Dragon yourself, Caius-sama.” She ended on a more positive note that brought me back from my slight funk.
Don’t get me wrong, the world of DxD had a lot of wonderful opportunities in both power-ups and subordinates I could recruit, and the fact that literally every single slightly important female here was hot was the cherry on top.
I just didn’t want to deal with all the shenanigans that came with being here, like dealing with the other pantheons, that cringe bastard Oppai Dragon, politics, and the mess that was ExE.
“Wait…” I muttered with a blink as I remembered an important detail. “I’m in the past right now, so that means I don’t have to deal with the mess that is canon or the foreign gods coming and invading in the near future.” I recalled as a grin grew on my face.
“Alright! I’m pumped now! Time to fuck canon over so that shitty plot never comes to pass!” I cheered happily while pumping my fist into the air, uncaring that I had yelled and brought attention my way.
Ignoring the wary and questioning looks now being sent my way by both sides, I focused and called my favorite murder angel.
‘Jibril, how would you like to kill some devils?’
As if she was watching me, which she and everyone else probably was now that I think about it, Jibril responded immediately.
‘It would be my absolute pleasure, Master~’ Jibril returned enthusiastically as I was slammed with her joy and battle lust now that I was concentrating on her.
‘Tomoe, Mio, Riruka, and you Quincy girls and guy, make sure to prepare yourselves too, for I will be calling you in the near future,’ I instructed, receiving a positive response in return.
‘Of course, Master!’
‘As you say, dear~’
‘About time!’
‘Finally putting us to work, eh boss?’
‘Sure~’
‘O-Of course!’
‘Whatever…’
‘Hmph, I was starting to wonder if you were going to keep shielding me.’
Grinning at both sides of devils and angels, I extended my hand forward, causing them to tense, only for them to become surprised as Jibril appeared a second later in all her marvelous splendor.
“Hii~ Jibril, reporting for duty, Master~” Jibril purred with a sadistic look on her face before extending her original wings as far as they could go, with her glowing halo rotating to the side of her head.
The angels down below became shocked and confused at the appearance of another angel, while the devils instantly became wary at the aura she was releasing.
“Have fun~” was all I instructed before I set her loose.
