Chapter 33: A Promise to Laboon
As we slowly descended down onto the Merry, I kept my gaze focused on Vivi, who similarly hadn’t stopped looking at me with a curious expression.
“V-Vivi.” Vivi answered almost unconsciously before realizing what she did and widening her eyes in panic. “I-I mean, my name is Miss Wednesday!”
“Shishishi, nice to meet you, Vivi.” I greeted, completely disregarding her obviously fake name and causing her to panic even more.
“P-Please don’t call me that!” Vivi exclaimed in a panic as she covered my mouth and whispered urgently. “That was a slip of the tongue! Please call me Miss Wednesday, okay?”
Wanting to tease her a bit further, I grinned behind her hand and licked it, causing her to squeak and quickly remove it with a blush covering her face.
“D-Did you just lick me!?” Vivi asked with a look halfway between embarrassed and incredulous.
I just winked at her in return, causing her blush to brighten before we finally landed gently on the deck of the Merry.
“An angel!” Sanji immediately exclaimed suddenly beside us and looking at Vivi with hearts in his eyes, causing Vivi to unconsciously snuggle closer to me. “Nice catch, Luffy!”
“Wasn’t there two of them?” Nami asked curiously as I let Vivi stand on her own legs, causing her to take a few steps away from us.
As if to answer our question, the sound of a splash was heard and we turned curiously as an orange-haired guy dressed in green and wearing a crown of all things surfaced.
“Mr. 9!” Vivi yelled in apparent relief as she quickly helped him get on the deck.
“Thank you, Miss Wednesday.” The guy said before pausing nervously as he noticed they were suddenly surrounded by my crew and me.
“And who might you be?” I asked with a grin and crossed hands.
The guy proved he was an idiot as he started whispering out loud to Vivi about being surrounded by pirates, and Vivi, proving that she too was kind of dumb, whispered back to him.
“…Are these guys for real?” Nami asked with a blank expression and her hands crossed under her breasts.
“They’re idiots.” Usopp muttered with the same expression, which said a lot coming from the usual coward.
Crocus suddenly chimed in, reminding us that we were still inside Laboon.
“They’re trouble. They’ve been trying to kill Laboon for a while now, but I have managed to thwart them so far.” Crocus muttered as he climbed onto the Merry as well.
Seeing the old man, Vivi and Mr. 9 suddenly sprang to their feet and pulled out guns from seemingly nowhere while saying some cringy lines.
In a heartbeat I was immediately behind him and, with a soft chop to the neck, knocked out Mr. 9 before looking at Vivi with a disappointed look.
“No hurting Laboon. I like him.” I muttered seriously, causing Vivi to sweat nervously and slowly put down her gun before raising her hands in defeat.
“Good girl.” I praised, letting my hand come down upon her head and patting it.
“I’m not a dog!” Vivi immediately exclaimed while glaring up at me with a blush on her face.
“Luffy-sama, I believe it would be best if we had this conversation outside before the whale’s corrosive acid damages the ship.” Tiche chimed in, causing everyone to panic as we quickly did as she said with the help of Crocus.
=====
With Vivi and Mr. 9 currently tied up and the Merry safely secured and docked outside Crocus’s lighthouse, I decided to take a moment to see the notification I had received earlier while the others chatted with Crocus.

+1 Gold Random Ticket
‘Makes sense, I guess. Anyway, let’s roll.’ I thought curiously.
[Nutcracker]
|Uncommon Trait|
“Crack the shell.” Your attacks are more effective against armor and defensive equipment. The stronger the armor, the more damage your attack deals against it.
Reading the new trait silently to myself, I brought my hand to my chin in thought. ‘Doesn’t Armament technically count as armor? I’ll need to test it out later.’
I was pulled from my thoughts by a conversation Nami and Crocus were having that caught my interest.
“If you follow the log pose to the end, it will lead you where you need to go.” Crocus stated calmly while giving me a small look as he caught me looking.
“Laugh Tale!” I declared with a big grin on my face as I unconsciously touched my hat for a moment, something that Crocus saw me do as well. “Shishishi, I wonder what kind of treasure we’ll find there? I bet it will be out of this world.”
“Imagine all the gold we’ll find~” Nami squealed suddenly with her eyes turning into Berry signs, freaking out Crocus for a bit before he focused his attention on me.
“You seem like a spirited bunch, but aren’t you worried about how hard it will be, young man? Nobody has reached there since Roger and everyone is gunning for it currently.” Crocus asked curiously as he continued looking at me almost nostalgically.
“That just makes me more excited!” I yelled and raised my hands in the air in a cheer. “A mystery island that everyone is trying to find for some reason but it hasn’t been found yet. That all screams adventure to me, and I will be the next person to find it!”
Crocus spent some more moments looking at me before bursting out into a warm chuckle. “Well, at least you don’t lack confidence.”
Our chat was unfortunately interrupted by Laboon as he started ramming into the Red Line again.
“That stubborn whale.” Crocus muttered in worry and immediately went to the cliff to see if he could reason with him.
“Hey Nami,” I called out calmly with my gaze fixed on the stubborn Laboon, who wasn’t listening to a word Crocus said.
“Yeah?” Nami asked with a look of pity on her face as she looked at Laboon as well.
“I’m going to do something crazy, so please make sure to protect the Log Pose.” I muttered, and without waiting for her response I disappeared with Soru, surprising Vivi and Mr. 9.
“Sorry Laboon, I’m going to be a little rough on you.” I muttered under my breath as I appeared in the air just above said whale.
Hardening my expression since this was for his own good, I let myself fall as my arms stretched backwards.
“Gum Gum…”
Just before reaching Laboon I brought my arms forward and hit Laboon with my current base strength, causing it to cry out in pain.
“Bazooka!”
“Waaaaoooooaaoo!!”
Laboon immediately noticed me and an angry expression settled on its face.
“Let’s see what you got!” I yelled with a big grin on my face, not deterred at all as I floated in the air with the use of Geppo.
“Luffy! What the hell are you doing!” I heard the yell of Sanji from somewhere down below, followed by Usopp’s.
“Just shut up and watch!” I yelled before focusing my full attention on Laboon, who looked ready to attack.
=====
With the Others Down Below
“Is he crazy? Why is he picking a fight with that poor whale!?” Vivi exclaimed loudly from her position on the ground, still tied along with her partner, as she looked at the people present with an outraged expression.
“Hehehe, that’s Luffy for you.” Nami said with a fond chuckle as she watched her Captain and lover duke it out with a whale for some reason.
“I’m sure he must have his reasons though. Since he already declared that he liked Laboon, I’m sure this is some way to help it somehow, even if I don’t understand it.” Nami finished with a sure tone.
“That’s correct. Luffy-sama hardly does anything without a reason. We just have to be patient and watch.” Tiche chimed in next, causing Vivi and Mr. 9 to squeal in surprise since she had appeared just behind them.
“How could he possibly help it when he’s beating it up!?” Vivi exclaimed again once she got over her surprise of Tiche’s sudden appearance.
“Shut up from the peanut gallery!” Nami declared as she turned and glared at Vivi and Mr. 9 with a scary expression, shutting them up as she walked up to them.
“Besides, aren’t you assholes here for its meat? So why the sudden worry for a whale that you wanted to butcher?” Nami asked with a huff, causing Vivi to immediately clam up.
“…What were your names again?” Zoro, who was resting nearby and drinking some sake, suddenly turned to the nervous-looking strangers.
“M-Miss Wednesday.” Vivi muttered with a fake attempt at a brave face.
“And I’m her partner, Mr. 9.” The guy said just as nervously.
“Hmm, those names sound familiar for some reason.” Zoro muttered out loud, only causing the pair to become even more nervous.
They were saved from having to say anything by Sanji, who came strolling along with a huge fish that he had cooked.
“Nami-swan~ Tiche-chwan~ Food is ready!” Sanji addressed them with an eager expression, obviously looking for some praise, before he suddenly changed expressions to his normal relaxed one and looked at Zoro, Usopp, and Crocus with a small glance.
“I made some leftovers for you three too.”
“Sanji! That’s clear discrimination! Let us have some of the main dish as well!” Usopp yelled in outrage, but his anger was soon forgotten as he happily dug in along with Zoro, who went for some more sake.
“Hahaha, what an interesting group.” Crocus laughed as he dug in too, but made sure to keep an eye on Laboon and Luffy in the background.
At the smell of the wonderful food, a growling noise came from Vivi and Mr. 9, causing them to blush in embarrassment when their gazes fell on them.
Then just as Vivi was about to discard her pride and ask for some food, a loud yell was heard.
“It’s a draw!”
Turning around, they saw the forms of Luffy and Laboon, with the former having a giant grin on his face.
“You can tell I’m strong, right?” Luffy was heard asking, getting the whale to suspiciously relax a bit and listen to what he had to say.
“I can always tell when someone is itching for a fight. If you want that rematch, you’ll just have to wait a bit longer. Once me and my friends cross the Grand Line, we’ll come back here and settle our score.” Luffy promised with a serious look on his face.
“Use that time to get stronger, alright? Because I promise you that I will be much stronger than I am right now by then.”
The next scene that played out brought smiles onto everyone’s faces, as Laboon’s eyes suddenly turned watery and started crying as he cried out his agreement.
“Shishishi, it’s a promise then!”
“…There he goes again, bringing hope to a lonely whale this time.” Nami muttered quietly to herself with a soft look still focused on Luffy’s back, who was now animatedly talking to the whale.
“Monkey D. Luffy. What a curious young man he is.” Crocus muttered, seemingly to himself, but Nami was close enough to just catch it.
“…Just what kind of pirates are you?” Vivi muttered next with a curious expression as she looked at everyone.
“We’re the Straw Hat Pirates!” Nami declared proudly and confidently.
=====
Shells Town, East Blue
A huge mountain of a man currently wearing a dog mask of all things could currently be seen reading a small piece of paper with his expression darkening the more he read before he suddenly crumpled it into his fist.
“That little twerp! Wait until I get my hands on him! I’ll give him a good beating for going against my wishes and still becoming a stinking pirate!” the man yelled in clear outrage as he recalled what he had just read.
“Grandpa,
I decided to become a Pirate anyway despite your wishes. Being a Pirate is infinitely more fun than becoming a Marine.
Anyway, there’s this crybaby called Koby that should be stationed here. He might be weak but I bet you can shape him up to be a good Marine anyways. He’s got the mettle for it. There’s also a guy called Hippo or Meppo or something that shows promise.
Thanks for everything, Grandpa, and I hope you retire soon. I really don’t want to fight you.
Luffy, Future King of the Pirates.”
“Vice-Admiral, we brought the people of interest.” Garp’s small tantrum was interrupted by another Marine who had opened the door and signaled for the ones behind to come in.
Walking in with shaking knees and nervous expressions were the forms of Koby and Helmeppo, who took one look at Garp and gulped loudly.
“I have a lot of questions for you two.” Garp declared as he sat back down on the chair and leveled the teens a heavy look.
“Y-Yes sir.”
=====
Somewhere in the Grand Line
Walking through a jungle, the form of Dracule Mihawk could be seen as he calmly made his way where a group of pirates could be seen either passed out or nursing a hangover.
He made no show of stopping until he came upon a middle-aged man with bright red hair, some stubble on his face, and missing his left arm, who weakly looked up at his approach.
“Could you maybe come back tomorrow, Hawk-Eyes? I’m not really in the mood to fight with you today.” The man complained, clearly still somewhat drunk.
“I have no wish to fight a man who’s no longer in his prime, Red Hair.” Mihawk answered calmly before he pulled out some bounty posters from his coat, getting the man’s attention.
“I met some curious youngsters recently, and one of them was wearing a familiar Straw Hat.” Mihawk stated as he set down a bounty poster showing the smiling face of Monkey D. Luffy.
The tired and hungover expression suddenly vanished from who was obviously Shanks, one of the Four Yonko, as he sat up with a serious expression.
“I’m afraid I can’t allow you to leave, Hawk-Eyes.” Shanks declared with all seriousness.
In return Mihawk rolled his eyes as if already expecting that.
Moments later, Mihawk was right to not be worried as a party broke out of nowhere with the previously drunk or hungover pirates now being merry again.
“Dahahaha, drink up, Hawk-Eyes! We’re having a party!” Shanks declared as he poured Mihawk some booze, getting an eye-roll from the man.
Shanks ignored him though and focused on the bounty poster with a nostalgic laugh.
“So you finally made it to the Grand Line, Luffy. Dahahaha, seems I can’t keep calling you Anchor anymore with how much you’ve grown.” Shanks muttered with a chuckle.
“The boy had a surprising control of Haoshoku for someone so young. Though going by your expression, I guess that doesn’t surprise you.” Mihawk informed calmly, taking a sip of his drink.
“Dahahaha, of course not! Luffy is not just your run-of-the-mill pirate, you know! Right, guys!?” Shanks declared with a sure tone as he turned to his crew.
“Right!”
As the crew celebrated and talked fondly of Luffy, Mihawk remained mostly silent as he looked down at the 60 million Berry bounty on the table.
“I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on them.”
=====
Back With Luffy
“Sure! We’ll give you a ride.” I declared as I gave Vivi a grin and a thumbs up, getting a smile from her.
After painting a crude Jolly Roger on Laboon and telling him to stop ramming into the Red Line so it wouldn’t wash away, Vivi had suddenly caught our attention with a request to give her and her companion a ride to Whiskey Peak, and I had agreed.
“Are you sure about that? You won’t be able to change your route once you set sail and your path will be set.” Crocus asked me curiously, still not fully trusting of Vivi and Mr. 9 due to their past actions of wanting to kill Laboon for food.
“Eh, if I don’t like the route then we can just pick another one next time.” I said with a grin and a shrug, causing Crocus to smile again.
“Another one next time, eh? Hahaha, very well. I wish you well on your journey.”
“Everyone! Prepare to set sail!” I yelled to the winds.
“Aye!”
