Mind-altering bugs

System of the down.....also i'd recommend Otep for female-fronted nu-metal

The thing that most screams nu metal to me is drop tuning on seven string guitars. Nu metal also had a real blue collar appeal that I'm not sure a lot the other rock music at the time except grunge appealed to. Finally I recall there being a lot of bands in the nu metal scene with Latin American members when they didn't have as much representation in other rock spaces at the time that I was aware of.

Being of a similar age, I enjoyed the heck out of this. What a time... It really was baby's first culture war.

You can’t go wrong being hard left, you’re gonna age well lyrically. My favorite Branson quote yet. Rages political stance definitely drew a clear line in a genre that talked a lot about nothing as you said lol Loved this episode as I’m also 30 and can relate/ align with everything you said. And great that you acknowledged pop culture being sold through a white lease fir much of our formative years and that’s all we had access to or were encouraged to participate in. But alternatively opened up our access to broader genres through the hyper blend of styles that was nu metal. Didn’t expect this to ever be something you’d both be so knowledgeable in. It was a blast to listen to.

I'm now very curious how much of the audience is either 30 odd or t(w)een. Bc I resonate with this pod on so many levels as a 31 year old
