Something I've noticed with children, and having been in similar situations in the past, is that when things happen with their parents they will often blame themselves. Rarely are they actually the cause behind what their parents are going through (such as divorce) but it's still the first thing they think of. They think it's a punishment for having done something wrong because their scope of the world is very small and they're both unaware of an unable to grasp the things that lead to these decisions. "They're splitting up because I was bad, so I have to be really good. If I'm good they'll stay together." Connor is no exception to this concept.
