I wanted to try pushing what I've learned or been learning about oil painting and from references and thought this would be a good way to exercise that info.  I also have a hard time with adding too much detail to shaded areas and have found that just doing it anyway and then glazing over it can help to bring the amount of detail down to something more reasonable for the shading.  Also some things about how to paint eyes that look more realistic and less like stickers.
