Introduction

Humanity has finally spent the last of Earth’s life essence needed to sustain their rule. The year is 2040, and much of the population remember the paradise of what their world used to look like a few years prior from the hell it has become. Mass Extinction of biodiversity, irreparable changes to climate, mass violence, mass starvation, loss of fundamentals rights; agonies untold from the greed of humanity’s elites as they expended the planet for their avarice. But to a small man with a smaller family, there is hope set in his eyes since his Father whispered promised life beyond the stars after the turn of the Millennium.

Alphonse Ward has prepared his entire life for the dreams inherited to him by his Father and Mother. To achieve greatness past the limits of the planet with a fixation that has imprisoned his heart. Space travel. Al’s once simple dreams tested with the weight of Humanity’s survival as his climb to the top of NASA’s Astronaut program leads him to be the only one qualified for their most daring test yet. To travel to a foreign anomaly that breached their galaxy from hundreds of Light Years in the matter of minutes, stationed by the Moon yet with no clear signs of hazard. The last mission of NASA. To learn and study this marvel in the last year of sustainable Earth in hopes of learning the secrets of light-travel. In hopes to replicate that knowledge and send Humanity elsewhere. Alphonse taking his love of the stars, and the final goodbyes of his family with him to see this through for the sake of his people. So they can be safe and start anew past their homeworld.

Awakening from his initial trip to the moon’s orbit into the waves of a large ruin buried in the middle of the Indian Sea. Earth not just alive, but verdant and prosperous with life. Caught in lively hues Alphonse would not have recognized on his Earth from the hell it was before he left it. As Al arrived back onto his planet 1,000 years into a paradise future. Having Escaped Humanity’s Crueliest Era. Alphonse is permanently changed from the experience he had on space as he undertakes a new life in a future forced onto him.

He is not alone, as he tries to find answers into why he was sent away, and what that Thing staring down at Earth is. As Al has a new partner, Eve. A local of the 31st century whose specialty is known as Ruin-raiding. Going beneath the surface of the Earth where the layers of past centuries is buried with the horrible secrets that initially destroyed the planet. A job for thrill seekers in an era of untold peace, fundamental philosophizes, and love: established by a group known as the Forebears. A small collective of cultures that endured the horrors of the Past Era to rebuild the world anew. Eve one of many Ruin-raiders taking on the job of hunting for artifacts, knowledge, or destroying hazards for the betterment of Earth.

Contrasting the Utopia above. The ruins of the Past era are steeped in violence. Layered in bone, machine, and grim that imprisons a menagerie of horrors many miles below the paradise of present day Earth. For much of Eve’s Adult life, it has been their passion to delve as much of this terrible expanse as possible. Out competing others of their field as they use the excuse for knowledge reclamation to feel alive as they fight for their life below the surface during every raid. A loneliness that Eve can never escape from as the tip of their field. Until Alphonse appeared in their life during one of their most dangerous raids to date. This stranger of Silicone-white hair, and the strangest Modded eyes the 31st century had yet to replicate. As this strange man proved his merit of an old-world Relic in Eve’s eyes, their partnership has proven more than fruitful in exploring depths of the Past Era Eve never thought possible until Al entered their life.

Eve is a Polymorph, a being that can chemically shapeshift their body to match different sexual dimorphism of humanity. Just one subsection of Humans Al can encounter in this new Era free from sickness, poverty, and war. As they act as Alphonse’s partner in delving into ruins, Eve gains the upper hand on competitors with the insider knowledge of Al having lived to see half of the abominable technically that would find it’s way buried under the 31st century. With Eve by his side, the dangerous job becomes alluring alongside the paradise Earth has become, gaining them a small collection of allies that balance the raiding life with the Utopic. While Eve does not make it easy for Al to work with them, their connection brings each other a sense of belonging they both lacked in this era. Working together to uncover the lost treasures of a past age, and for Alphonse to get closer from a life he can no longer get back to. As the Thing besides the moon watches him with deep interest. Unblinking. Waiting for Alphonse to speak back to it.
