Playing Greedfall: An Unadventurous Spirit

Today we're Playing Greedfall, the latest Spiders RPG taking place in a fantasy colonial playset where I shoot a million bears (ulgs) to death while talking about a bunch of people wearing hats. this video is a review, analysis, and critique of Greedfall that talks about how it fails to inspire adventure through its mechanics, how the addition of a best ending has strained its roleplaying to breaking point, and how Spiders, rather than work to fix their own punitive systems, instead try to sidestep them, creating a host of new problems, and how it can't decide if it wants to be a tale of finding unity, fixing problems and being lighthearted or a grim reminder of human cruelty and so it lands in a confused middleground, neither inspiring or sobering. (and uh, not very fun, which would have at least alleviated that need) Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/tehsnakerer Twitter: https://twitter.com/TehSnakerer Playing logo by Emily Nace / Thumbanil by Hotcyder Hotcyder: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC_r8gFeezEBZVnazvbv75pQ Index 001. Hello Tehsnakerer, I am a new patron of yours, having recently realized "oh shit, I've watched this mans videos about 10 times at work, Might as well throw cash at the dude" and I have seen a few of your afterthought videos and wanted to submit a question, I'm not sure if the questions are freeform, or if they have to directly relate to the video you just released, but it is in line with something you've talked a great deal about in the past, that being "dumb protagonists" and I wanted to know, What are some of your favorite none video game characters like this, and why? I have a question for your next thoughts video, If you had to choose a favorite "Dumb" protagonist from a medium outside of video games that you've experienced, Which character would it be and why? For me it'd probably be Bones Conway from the 1994 film in the army now, a film about a couple of slackers who join the national guard to make a little side money, picking the most out of the way sounding job in order to avoid conflict or being deployed, Conway decides to join the water purification team, very shortly before Operation Desert Storm, a conflict in a desert, where water purification would highly valued. I'd also like to thank you for reminding people that there are games that are so bad they're good, not just films. Most people aren't aware of that and to see more people get into it gives me great joy. Thank you for being a great source of entertainment for the last couple years, and thank you for making both retail jobs, and warehouse work, far more bearable.
