Chapter 1: Accident
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
(Location: Marketplace)
Anit walks between the colorful stalls — jostling bodies, loud voices, vibrant fabrics, trinkets on display. She moves cautiously, a subtle tension in her posture.
Anit (inner monologue): “…first time outside the Tower… too much noise…”
Her gaze lingers on a jewelry stall — a bright necklace made of polished stones (see reference photo). The vendor notices her interest and speaks up.
Vendor (cheerfully): — Fancy a little sparkle, miss? This stone’s hot as a fire’s heart! Some say it can even light a campfire…
The vendor doesn’t finish — Anit abruptly steps back. She pulls her hood tighter, hiding her face, and quickly walks away. But just a few steps later, something tugs on her cloak. She flinches. Turns. A small cage. Inside — several ghulpii, huddled together. One of them pecks at the edge of her clothing.
Ghulpii (with a birdlike trill): — Kvil-kiiii!
Anit (inner monologue): “Ghulpii? At a market like this?”
She backs away, disappearing into the crowd.

(Location: Street scene outside the tavern)
Anit marched toward the tavern doors with purpose. She reached out to open them —but at that very moment, someone crashed out from inside. It was Larikon. He bumped into her shoulder — and she stumbled, falling to the ground.
Lar: — Oops! Forgive me, my lady. Such a clumsy blind fool I am —didn’t notice a delicate little flower in my path. Nearly crushed you!
He offered her his hand with a charming smile — but something in his gaze sharpened. Her hood had slipped off, revealing her face… and animal ears.
Anit (short breath, grabs his hand, pulling herself up): — It's nothing...
Lar (smirking slyly): — By the way... your ears are quite adorable.
She flinched and yanked her hood back down over her head.
Lar (feigning curiosity): — Why hide like you're expecting trouble? (reaches in, shamelessly lifting the edge of her hood) — Just making sure I didn’t bruise anything important~
His face shifts briefly — his eyes focused, alert. But only for a second. Anit jerks, ready to strike, but in that exact moment, the tavern door swings open and Orf bursts out. He’s furious, and his glare immediately locks onto Larikon.
Orf: — You!
Lar: — Yep, that’s me! (hands up in mock innocence) — Pardon me, my lady, but I must dash!
In one fluid motion, Lar bends down, grabs her hand and before she can react brings it to his lips. A soft touch. A playful smile… [Panel: Anit frozen in shock, blushing deeply.] She jerks her hand away and clutches it to her chest. Larikon only grins, sticking out the tip of his tongue like a tease.
Lar: — Perhaps we'll meet again~ (runs off)
Orf (furious): — If I see you here again, you flea-bitten mutt, you’ll be carried out feet first!
He snorts, throws a threatening gesture with his fist, and stomps back into the tavern.
Anit (inner monologue): “He just…”
Anit looks down at her hand, still feeling the faint trace of his lips... and tongue. [Panel: close-up of her palm — a few shallow scratches, likely from their collision.] She shudders, wipes her hand hard on her clothes, and clenches her fingers into a fist.

(Location: Inside the tavern)
Anit finally stepped inside, following Orf. The tavern was noisy, but bright, warm — even cozy. Clearly, the owner took pride in keeping the place clean and in order. And, as it turned out, that very owner was Orf himself. Weaving through the patrons, the girl made her way to the notice board and began to study it closely.
Anit: — Hm... it’s not here...
??? (a calm voice nearby): — Looking for something? You seem like someone in need of a job. I could help.
Anit turned her head. A tall, well-built man stood before her.
Anit (curtly, coldly): — No. Don’t bother me. (glances back at the board)
???: — My apologies. I just don’t think I’ve seen you around here before.
Anit tensed. Her gaze swept over him more carefully this time.
Anit (inner monologue): “Neat appearance... except the stubble. Expensive, well-kept gear. So — not a commoner. Although... the skin tone and eyes... He looks like a half-breed. Wait... I think it’s him.”
After a brief pause, she answered.
Anit: — I’m looking for a group of bandits.
???: — On the notice board?
Anit: — First step is to check if they're already wanted. Why waste time tracking them down from scratch if someone’s already spotted them?
???: — Makes sense. And do you have any leads on where they might be?
Anit (eyes narrowing): — I thought you were offering help. This sounds more like an interrogation.
??? (smiling): — Is it? I’m just trying to understand the task. Hard to help if I don’t know what you need.
Anit (soft exhale): — Ha... I came from a settlement nearby. I have a mission. But the search...
???: — Has been fruitless?
She didn’t reply.
???: — So… do you at least have a description? How many are there? What’ve they done — robbery, murder? (tilts his head, studying her face)
Anit stayed silent, still eyeing him with suspicion.
??? (smiling again): — Alright, I’ll admit it. I’m looking for a bandit group too. They’ve been seen around here, on the outskirts. And… there's a distinctive feature — a scar on the cheek, shaped like three cuts.
Anit’s brows twitched slightly.
???: — So I thought… maybe we’re after the same people? Am I right?
He lifted his chin with smug confidence — though it came off more like childish bravado than real arrogance.
Anit (thoughtfully): — ...maybe.
???: — Ha! (he snapped his fingers) — If you’re interested, we could talk more over at a table. Honestly, most folks here don’t want to speak about them. It’s like they’re pretending nothing’s wrong. So — what do you say? (gestures invitingly)
Anit: — No alcohol.
???: — Of course. This is a serious talk.
Anit still hesitated, but finally answered:
Anit: — Then fine.╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌

(Location: a narrow alley beside the tavern. Evening has fallen over the city. Colors — deep blue, glowing orange.)
Anit stepped out of the tavern and glanced around. (Her eyes dull — no light in them.) Street lamps cast long shadows, and out of the dark, a few figures begin to approach — possibly city guards. Not eager for any encounters, she quickly slips into a side alley. A flicker of magic sparks in her palm, softly lighting the path ahead. The sound of footsteps echoes faintly. Her own... or not only? She tenses, slows her pace, listens. Silence. She glances over her shoulder — nothing. Keeps walking, a little faster now. Then — a sudden clatter to the side. Anit stops. Her magical flame flickers — stuttering — like the wind is about to snuff it out. And then... it does. Darkness. Her pulse raced — though her face showed nothing. Then, from between the stacked crates near the wall, leaps out… a plain ginger cat. Anit blinks in surprise and places her hand over her chest. (Emphasis on this gesture.) She shuts her eyes tightly. Inhale. Exhale. Everything stills. She opens her eyes — and there’s not a trace of worry left.
Anit (tired, to herself): — Hah…
The cat meows softly, its fluffy tail curling high, and confidently rubs against her leg. It looks a little scruffy, but beautiful — long fur, blue eyes. At first, Anit watches it with a detached gaze. But eventually, she crouches down and extends a hand. She doesn’t pet it — but the animal presses against her palm on its own. Something shifts in her eyes. A tiny spark of warmth. (A glint appears in her gaze.)
Anit (quietly, almost to herself): — What do you want? Aren’t you afraid of me?
Larikon (suddenly, from just behind her): — Maybe it thinks we’re the appetizer.
Abrupt shift in angle: Larikon is leaning in close to her ear from behind. His face — way too close.
Street. A loud yelp. Next panel: Lar, crouching and holding his head. A fresh lump stands out clearly.
Lar (groaning, hissing): — Ow… Tsssss... What was that for?!
Anit (irritated): — You seriously have to ask? (sighs, shoulders relaxing) — You got too close. No warning. Reflex reaction. (cold tone)
Lar (wincing, but still smirking): — Oh? So I startled you? (blinks innocently, then grins with mischief) — Ahh, I get it now... that’s why your tail puffed up like a brush~
Anit swiftly hides her tail beneath her cloak.
Anit (narrowing her eyes): — What do you want? Why are you following me?
Lar: — Following you? Pfft! (lets out a sarcastic snort) Someone’s been reading too many romance novels. I was just walking along — and there you were. So I thought, why not say hello? Not miss a second chance. You know what they say: first time’s an accident, second — a coincidence, and the third…
Anit (cuts him off, coldly): — Got it. Goodbye.
She turns sharply and walks away without even glancing at him.
Lar (thoughtfully, calling after her): — In a hurry? Makes sense. It’s late, the alleys are dark… What if some shady guy decides to follow you home? Oh! I’ve got an idea — why don’t I walk you back, just to be safe~?
Anit (inner monologue, grimly): “Funny, you’re the only one bothering me right now.”
She slows down, giving him a glare that looks like she’s selecting the right curse to throw at him. But before she can speak, two guards step out from a nearby alley — heading straight toward them. Anit blinks nervously, quickly turns — and walks straight into Lar’s chest. He catches her by the arm just in time.
Lar (smiling): — Got you this time~
Anit: — Fine. Walk me.
Her fingers tighten slightly around his arm. Lar blinks in surprise — then smiles wider.
Lar (to himself, pleased): — Looks like I was right~
Anit heard it. (Her ear twitched.) But the patrol was already upon them.
Patrolman 1 (eyeing them suspiciously): — Good evening. Did either of you hear a woman scream just now? Something happen?
Anit still had her hood up, hiding part of her face. Lar just smiled carefreely. They were still holding hands. And then, suddenly...
Lar (pulls Anit close, draping an arm over her shoulder): — Sorry, that was my girlfriend. A cat ran past — crazy thing — and she got scared. You know how girls can be~ (smiles and leans toward one of the guards, covering his mouth as he whispers) — Honestly? I damn near shit myself…
The guard instantly steps back, grimacing at Lar’s crude remark.
Patrolman 2 (coldly): — Curfew’s coming soon. Where are you headed?
Lar (gesturing dramatically, as if saying the dumbest thing imaginable): — Home, of course! But that cat... it was huge! Black, with a naked tail! What if it’s spreading disease? Could’ve been a rat, who knows! Did you see it?
Anit stayed silent while Lar talked to the guards, her eyes quietly scanning the area. Then suddenly — she noticed two more figures not far behind them. One was a tall, broad man with horns on his head. The other — a cloaked figure, completely concealed, impossible to make out. They were walking in their direction.
Meanwhile, the guards were clearly losing patience with Larikon’s storytelling.
Patrolman 1: — Fine. Have a good evening. (They turn and walk away.)
Lar: — Thank you! You too! (waves after them, then leads Anit onward) — Let’s get a little farther away, then I’ll let you go. Heh, sounds like I’m keeping you hostage — don’t worry, I don’t bite~
Anit: — Afraid you’ll bite your own tongue? (smirks) — Your babbling nearly made their ears fall off.
Lar: — Maybe~ But hey, it worked. (sighs) — Shame, though. What if that cat had been real? Rabies is no joke. Tsk… people just don’t care. By the way — was it just me, or were you trying to avoid the guards?
Just before he asked, Anit had caught something in the corner of her eye — the guards had stopped that same horned giant. Looked like they were asking him the same questions. No words reached her ears, but… for a split second, the giant met her gaze.
Anit (sharply turning away): — You’re imagining things. (hastily returning to the conversation, as if nothing had happened)Lar (glancing sideways at her): — Hooo… I see. And here I thought the little kitty might’ve caused some trouble...
Anit (a bit tense): — If you suspected me, why’d you help?
Lar’s smile sharpens — like he just caught her in something.
Lar: — Why rush to conclusions? Besides, you asked me to walk you. I couldn’t possibly refuse a young lady~
Anit (inner monologue): “That was your idea in the first place!”
Lar: — Maybe I just wanted to be a prince on a white horse.
Anit (skeptically): — You don’t have a horse.
Lar (with a smug grin): — He’s in the stables.
Anit (freezes for a second, then suddenly bursts out): — Pha-ha!.. m! *Ahem.* (cuts herself off just as suddenly, covering her mouth with her hand)
Lar (mock offended): — What, you don’t believe me? We can go right now — I’ll show him to you!
Anit: — Right. To the stables. And then the hayloft?
Lar (grinning slyly): — Ehm… well, if that’s the plan… I’m not against it.
Anit: — That wasn’t an invitation.
Lar (smiling, smoothly changing the subject): — Phee-heee~ By the way, I never introduced myself. Quite rude of me — but better late than never. (places a hand on his chest, as if bowing) — Larikon. Adventurer and apothecary. Wandering from town to town. That’s the life.
Anit (with a hint of doubt): — An adventurer and an apothecary? Doesn’t really match.
Lar: — Eh? Why not??
Anit noticed that Lar was still holding her arm — and gently pulled away.
Anit: — Your manners… and your look.
Lar: — Care to elaborate?
Anit (with irony): — If you’re not a fool, you’ll figure it out.
Lar (clutching his chest theatrically): — Oh, how cruel~ Your words wound my heart~
Anit: — That’s exactly what I meant.
Suddenly, she stopped in her tracks and looked around in confusion.
Anit: — Wait... where are we? Did you just lead me into a tra—
Lar (cutting her off, completely deadpan): — No idea.
Anit (blinks, stunned): — What..?
Lar (glancing at her): — What “what”? I was following you.
Anit: — And I was following you.
A beat of silence. Then Lar bursts out laughing and slaps her on the back so hard she nearly stumbles forward.
Lar: — Pha-ha! Don’t tell me — you don’t even know where you live?!
Anit (flustered, turning away fast): — I-I do! I just... got a little turned around in the dark…
She hurried off ahead. Larikon watched her go, grinning slyly.
Lar (softly, mostly to himself): — Heh… And they say cats see well in the dark~╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌

(Outside the inn.)
Anit (stopping in front of the door): — We’re here.
Lar: — Oh! So you don’t have a residence permit either. Staying long?
Larikon gave her a quick once-over, then tilted his head, smiling — almost innocently.
Lar: — If you’re not rushing off to bed, how about dinner? Or a drink? My treat. In exchange, I’ll just steal a little more of your time~ Pretty please~?
Anit (immediately): — No. I don’t have time to spare, so you’d better find someone else to play with.
Lar: — Who said anything about playing?
He chuckled, leaning in a bit.
Lar: — Don’t get me wrong, I totally get it. End of the day, it's late, we’re all exhausted. Fun’s for daytime, when you’re full of energy. Evenings are for slowing down, relaxing~ Like you did — stopping for a moment to pet the kitty.
His smile curled slyly.
Lar (quieter now, almost a whisper): — And I stopped too... to admire the kitty~
Anit shot him a suspicious glance but he was already letting out a dramatic sigh.
Lar: — I'm tired too, you know! Spent the whole day running around, looking for work. Talked to nearly everyone — and nothing. No one trusts outsiders here… *sigh* What about you? Any luck with work?
Anit (inner monologue): “First he flirts nonstop, now he says he’s been job hunting? Contradicts himself. Calls himself an adventurer-apothecary, but no adventuring gear, no sign of a healer’s kit. Maybe he meant something else by that…”
Anit (flatly): — Ah. So you’re a prostitute.
Lar (blinks, clearly not processing what he just heard): — Huh?
Anit (serious, not a hint of humor): — I suggest you look for clients among men, not women.
Lar froze, staring at her in stunned silence.
Anit (calmly continues): — They’re more likely to seek such services. Some of them have same-sex preferences. You’re tall, yes, but you’ve got a nice face, a narrow waist, and — decent enough from behind. Might even tempt the more “traditional” ones. Some don’t mind experimenting. That’s what people pay for, after all.
She gave him a nod, casting a cool, evaluative look.
Anit: — But first, do something about your hair. Right now it looks like a bird’s nest. At least try combing it. And don’t hide your eyes. Heterochromia’s rare — use it to your advantage.
Lar (finally speaks): — My eyes, huh...
He ran a hand through his hair, revealing a vivid, ghostlike gaze.
Lar: — Someone once told me… just one night with me, and you’ll remember my eyes for the rest of your life.
He stepped in, pressing a hand to the wall beside her head — close, but not forceful. His smile had sharpened into something dangerous.
Lar: — So, are you the pimp? Tell me — what would my body be worth, you think?~
Anit (glancing away slightly): — Me?.. No… I’m not… Just… making observations.
She faltered for a moment.
Anit (quieter): — I’m not interested in that kind of thing… Just stating what I noticed.
Lar (chuckles, leaning in): — You just observed? That all?
His other hand gently touched her waist, sliding just a little lower.
Lar: — What about practice? What do you say?
He leaned in, as if ready to kiss her, but—
Anit (sharply): — Thank you kindly for walking me home!
She slipped sideways, evading his arm.
Anit (bowing slightly, face hidden): — It was pleasant spending this hour with you. But now we must part ways.
Larikon blinked in surprise… then burst into short laughter.
Lar: — Alright, I get it. Won’t hold you any longer. Sorry if I made you uncomfortable.
He turned and started walking off.
Anit (inner monologue): “Made me uncomfortable?”
She straightened up, hand brushing her cheek — it felt warm.
Lar: — Perhaps I’ll see you tomorrow. Sweet dreams, Anit~
He smiled one last time and waved before disappearing from view.
Anit: — Good… night...
Anit (thought): “Wait… I never told him my name.”
She immediately bolted after Larikon but he was already gone. Her brow furrowed, and instead of heading inside, she turned and walked the other way.╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌

(Location: A shed on the outskirts of the city.)
Darkness. Silence. Only the occasional soft clucking of hens in a corner. Anit pushed open the door and stepped inside. A stack of hay rested by the wall. She walked over and sat down. Exhaled — heavily.
Anit (inner monologue): “I think I’m... tired. I need to regain my strength.”
She lay down stiffly, like a soldier, arms crossed over her chest, and closed her eyes. But… sleep wouldn’t come. She opened her eyes again.
Anit (inner monologue): “Can’t sleep… Ever since I left the Tower, I’ve had trouble. And also…”
She turned onto her side, hugging herself, fingers unconsciously sliding along her back.
Anit (inner monologue): “It’s starting to ache again…”
A flashback — the whip. A single sharp image from the past. Sudden. Painful. Just a flash, nothing more.
Her body flinched.
Anit (turning her eyes away, mutters): — If only this were a bed… not a pile of hay… (tail flick) — Or maybe… maybe I could try…
She remembered Larikon. How he leaned in. How he pressed her against the wall. The way his fingers slid along her waist. His gaze. His smile.
Anit (inner monologue): “Relax...? He… he reminds me a little of…”
The image in her mind shifts. Not Larikon — someone else. Darker skin. Dark green hair tied back. Eyes unseen. A figure leans closer… a warm breath brushes her lips. In that moment, Anit touches her own lips — just lightly — with her fingertips.
Anit (inner monologue): “I wonder how much he’d charge for his services. Maybe I should’ve tried…? I don’t get it… why hasn’t he hit on anyone else besides me?.. What if he’s… sick?”
Her eyes widened — stunned at where her own thoughts had wandered. She pulled her hand away from her lips.
Anit (inner monologue): “Gods… what the hell am I thinking?”
She sat up abruptly, staring into the darkness.
Anit (inner monologue): “He’s shady as hell. I knew it — that’s why I kept him around the outskirts... Enough. Stop thinking. Just stop. Why is it so hard to stop?!”
She let out a long breath and rubbed her forehead. Then noticed her fingers. There had been scratches there. But now — nothing.
Anit (inner monologue): “Gone? But… scratches don’t heal that fast.”
Her mind flashed another image — Lar licking her fingers. The warmth of his lips. That wet touch. His tongue. Too vivid… Anit’s cheeks flared red with betrayal.
Anit (brow furrowed): — To the abyss with all of it…
She lay down again and her hand slowly slid downward.╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌╌

The silence of the shed was broken only by her uneven breathing. Her fingers slid into her pants, searching for release, but even the most delicate touches couldn’t bring what her body truly craved. Her tail twitched restlessly from side to side, and her face was frozen in an expression somewhere between arousal and confusion — or irritation.
Anit (inner monologue): “Is this not enough?”
Her eyes opened. For a moment, she just lay there, listening to the signals inside her.
Anit (inner monologue): “Not it… I need something more…”
Her hand went still. Her thoughts scattered, leaving only the sensation of her body — too hot, too tense. Throwing her arm over her head, she stared up at the ceiling, lips slightly parted, her gaze distant. And then… a wave of fantasy washed over her: the silk of a white dress sliding off her shoulders. Foreign hands — strong (male), confident — caressing the bare skin of her back, fingertips trailing along her collarbones. Hot breath at her neck. And then — other hands (female), graceful, soft, gliding lower, exploring every curve… Her chest rose heavily, her body instinctively giving in to the imagery. Her fingers slid downward once more. Her eyes grew hazy with barely-contained pleasure, her lips swollen from biting. The images kept shifting with her breath — male hands, female touches, kisses, undressing, surrendering completely… She didn’t even notice when the moan left her lips. And then — release. Her body collapsed back into the hay, breath slowly calming. Silence settled in again, and with it — the long-awaited feeling of ease. No more thoughts. Just warmth. Just peace. (This feeling of peace should be visually emphasized in the panel.)
A sharp sound. Anit flinched and opened her eyes. Silence. But then — again. A creak. Somewhere outside.
Anit (inner monologue): “Shkyrt take him. Not now…”
(Comedic chibi panel: Anit with huge eyes, blinking nervously?)
She instantly sank deeper into the haystack, eyes locked tensely on the barn door. It creaked open. A trail of moonlight spilled across the floor, and within seconds, a silhouette cut through it. Human. The figure’s edges were swallowed by shadow, but from the very first step, it was clear — he wasn’t here by accident. And then, a voice:
???: — Looks like a stray cat snuck into this barn~
A predatory smile gleamed on the shadowed face. In Anit’s mind, like an echo, Larikon’s words came alive:
“The first time is an accident. The second — a coincidence. The third... is intentional.”
