Character sheet: Caestus (SFWver.) (Patreon)

Another update, and this one is important for the plot! 👀 I edited the “Past” section to clarify what exactly Caestus learned about Lar’s abilities: his regeneration and healing. I also updated the first paragraph of the “Physical dependency” section.

Name: Caestus (alias; real name unknown / discarded)

Age: Approximately 38–42 years old.

Height: ~200 cm (about 6'7").

Build: Stocky, with well-developed musculature. Solidly built, hardened by years of fighting and heavy physical labor. Despite his age and lifestyle, he remains in excellent physical condition.

Face: Sharp, striking features, with a heavy jaw and prominent cheekbones. Eyes are dark brown, half-lidded, as if constantly sizing up the person across from him. His gaze is watchful, insolent. Unshaven stubble. He smiles often, but rarely sincerely. His smile usually promises nothing good.

Distinguishing Marks: Body covered in old scars from bullets, knives, and shrapnel. Old burn scars on his right forearm. Two horizontal scars on his left cheekbone. He always wears a military dog tag around his neck.

Voice: Deep, with a slight rasp. Sounds calm even when making threats. When angry, he speaks more quietly (this usually means the most trouble).

Orientation: Bisexual. His attraction is often tied more to a sense of control and dominance than to the partner's gender.

Status: Leader and founder of the gang «***». (Before the catastrophe, he was a Sergeant in the Airborne Forces.)

Personality: Selfish, greedy, domineering, pragmatic. Loves control in any form: from managing people to position in bed. Can't stand being contradicted, but can respect strength. The gang is held together by his power, cruelty, and ability to persuade. Not a genius, but cunning and able to calculate consequences when survival is at stake. Reads people well, notices details others miss. Doesn't micromanage, but always knows what's happening in his circle.

Physical Abilities: Enduring, strong, well-trained. Can fight with or without weapons. Prefers close combat. Favorite weapons are brass knuckles and his own hands, but he'll use a knife or pistol if needed. Accurate shot.

Special Features: No mutations or supernatural abilities. His main advantages are experience, discipline, and physical conditioning. He survived where others died, not through luck, but through cold calculation.

Weaknesses:

Alcohol. Drinks often, but not to the point of oblivion.

Ego. Caestus does not forgive humiliation. (Lar's escape wasn't just the loss of a resource — it was a blow to his authority, to his self-image as the one who controls everything.)

Attitude Toward Lar: "Mine. A resource. The only one who doesn't whine." He doesn't see Lar as an equal — only as valuable. Protects him from others because he considers him HIS. Lar's defiance both irritates and fascinates him. If Lar ever becomes a threat, Caestus would destroy him without hesitation.

Attitude Toward the Rest of the Gang: Tools. Useful, replaceable, in need of discipline. He's not cruel to them without reason, but he's not sentimental either. He could execute someone for betrayal and forget about it five minutes later.

Past:

Served in the military, went through several hotspots. Lost many comrades, learned not to get attached. The dog tag is the only thing he carries from those days.

Lost his family during the catastrophe. Doesn't talk about it.

Assembled a gang from former military and marauders. Gradually pushed competitors off the territory.

Met Lar when he was seeking shelter. What drew him in wasn't just Lar's appearance, but what he was like: confident, sharp-tongued, unbroken. Lar didn't respond to Caestus's advances and wouldn't let him cross his boundaries. This only fueled Caestus's desire. Despite the attraction, Caestus didn't take by force: the doctor was a valuable resource who needed to be functional. But everything changed when he accidentally noticed Lar's unusual regeneration and later uncovered his ability to heal others. This gave him the perfect tool for control. From then on, Lar was no longer just a doctor; he was someone Caestus had fully claimed.

Physical dependency:

    Over the months of regular contact with Larikon, Caestus's body had reached a state of "super-health": complete healing of chronic conditions, significantly enhanced regeneration, endurance, and potency. He felt stronger, younger, nearly invulnerable, and took it for granted. But he believed he was in control of the situation and didn't realize how deeply his body had grown accustomed to constant healing.

    After Lar's escape, the contact ceased, and Caestus's condition sharply degraded back to his normal physiological baseline. This drop triggered withdrawal syndrome: his former vigor vanished, and everything that used to bring pleasure (food, alcohol, fighting) turned bland. Insomnia, migraines, and irritability set in. The most significant blow was the quality of sex with other partners. He remained physically functional, but the orgasm had become pale, almost mechanical, without its former intensity.

    Physiologically, Caestus could have endured a few months until everything stabilized and returned to normal: sleep, appetite, the thrill of combat, and full, satisfying sex. But his ego-driven fixation on the lost object and his dependence on the feeling of power made him unwilling to wait. He remembered what he'd been at his peak, and refused to settle for anything less.

Особливі прикмети: Тіло вкрите старими шрамами від куль, ножів і уламків. На правому передпліччі сліди старого опіку. На лівій вилиці два горизонтальні шрами. На шиї постійно носить армійський жетон.

Голос: Низький, із легкою хрипотою. Звучить спокійно навіть, коли погрожує. Коли злиться починає говорити тихіше (це зазвичай означає найбільші проблеми).

Орієнтація: Бісексуальний. Потяг нерідко пов'язаний із відчуттям контролю й домінування більше, ніж зі статтю партнера. 

Статус: Ватажок і засновник банди «***». (До катастрофи: Сержант десантних військ.)

Характер: Егоїстичний, жадібний, владний, практичний. Любить контроль у будь-якій формі: від керування людьми до позиції в ліжку. Не терпить, коли йому перечать, але може поважати силу. Банда тримається на його силі, жорстокості й умінні переконувати. Не геній, проте хитрий й уміє прораховувати наслідки, коли йдеться про виживання. Добре читає людей, помічає деталі, які інші пропускають. Не мікроменеджерить, але завжди знає, що відбувається в його оточенні. 

Фізичні здібності:  Витривалий, сильний, добре тренований. Вміє битися як зі зброєю, так і без. Віддає перевагу ближньому бою. Улюблена зброя — кастети, власні руки, але при потребі користується ножем, пістолетом. Стріляє влучно.

Особливості:  Не має мутацій чи надздібностей. Його головна перевага — досвід, дисципліна та фізична підготовка. Він вижив там, де гинули інші, не через удачу, а через холодний розрахунок.

Слабкості: 

Алкоголь. П’є часто, але не до безпам’ятства.

Его. Цестус не пробачає приниження. Втеча Лара стала для нього не просто втратою ресурсу — це був удар по його владі, по його образу себе як того, хто контролює все.

Ставлення до Лара: «Моє. Ресурс. Єдиний, хто не ниє.» Не бачить у ньому рівного, лише цінність. Захищає від інших, бо вважає СВОЇМ. Зухвалість Лара одночасно дратує й захоплює. Якщо той стане загрозою — знищить без вагань.

Ставлення до решти банди:  Інструменти, корисні, замінні, потребують дисципліни. Він не жорстокий до них без причини, але й не сентиментальний. Може стратити за зраду й забути через п’ять хвилин.

Минуле:

Служив в армії, пройшов кілька гарячих точок. Втратив багатьох товаришів, навчився не прив'язуватися. Армійський жетон це єдине, що носить із собою з тих часів.

Під час катастрофи втратив сім’ю. Не говорить про це. 

Зібрав банду з колишніх військових і мародерів. Поступово витіснив конкурентів із території.

Зустрів Лара, коли той шукав прихистку. Його привабила не лише зовнішність Лара, а й те, яким він був: упевнений, гострий на язик і незламний. Лар не піддавався на залицяння Цестуса й не дозволяв переступати власні межі. Це лише сильніше розпалювало бажання. Попри потяг, Цестус не брав силою: лікар цінний ресурс і в першу чергу той має працювати. Усе змінилося, коли він випадково помітив дивну регенерацію Лара, а згодом викрив його здатність зцілювати інших. Це дало йому ідеальний інструмент для контролю. Відтоді Лар був для нього не лише лікарем, а й тим, кого він остаточно привласнив.

Фізіологічна залежність:     Протягом місяців регулярного контакту з Ларіконом організм Цестуса досяг стану «над-здоров'я»: повне зцілення хронічних захворювань, значне підвищення регенерації, витривалості й потенції. Він почувався сильнішим, молодшим, майже невразливим і сприймав це як належне. Але він вважав, що контролює ситуацію, і не усвідомлював, наскільки глибоко його тіло звикло до постійного зцілення. 

    Після втечі Лара контакт припинився і стан Цестуса різко деградував до звичайної фізіологічної норми. Цей перепад запустив синдром відміни: зникла колишня бадьорість і усе, що раніше приносило задоволення (їжа, алкоголь, бій), стало прісним. Додалися безсоння, мігрені, дратівливість. Окремий удар — якість сексу з іншими партнерами. Фізично він функціональний, але оргазм став блідим, майже механічним, без колишньої яскравості.

    Фізіологічно Цестус міг би перетерпіти кілька місяців, поки все стабілізується й повернеться до норми: відновився б і сон, і смак до їжі, і азарт до бою, і повноцінний секс. Але через егоїстичну фіксацію на втраченому об'єкті й залежність від відчуття влади він не хоче чекати. Він пам'ятає, яким був на піку, і не бажає задовольнятися меншим.
