The Patreon Thing (Patreon)
Content
No doubt news of the Patreon controversy has made it to you. Long story short, in order to deal with a few problems (people asking why they didn't get charged, people signing up to get perks then cancelling before they pay, etc) Patreon decided to charge right away instead of one big charge at the end of the month. This means an increase in credit card fees and so they're increasing the price of a patronage by 2.9% plus 35 cents for each individual pledge.
It's still early days, so I am not sure how this will all shake out, but I am far from impartial, and while this isn't great it still stands that Patreon is both the only game in town and it is opening opportunities for people to make their living doing stuff not traditionally profitable.
I can't say how disruptive this is going to be, but it is concerning that they're passing the costs on to Patrons. I am not sure how it will effect your own patronage decisions, but I understand if this change makes you unable to keep supporting Step Back.
