Black Panther and the Black Panthers | Quick Step #5

Marvel finally has its first black superhero headliner film coming out on the 16th. It shares the name with one of the most famous black power groups in America, and that's a good thing. Let's talk about it. Theres some great stuff in here Shawn, and I really appreciate how often you take a lot of time to give me really strong and constructive feedback on my work. I am at a bit of a difficult position with these discussions. There's a weird confluence of expertises and experiences for me that make this discussion hard. Yes, I am Canadian, a mix of French and English, which already gives me a sort of outside status in both cultures. I am also an Americanist. I have two Master's Degrees in American Cultural Studies, as well as US history. My PhD comprehensive examinations were on US history as well. I am also married to an American immigrant from a white midwestern family that I have spent a lot of time with over the years. Also it is selling out, but over half of my audience is American. I am not trying to justify any position by the way, I think your criticism is fair. Though for pretty much all my life I've felt like I dont really belong in any culture, and see a lot of cultures from the outside in. I cant speak a ton to experience in any. Either way, I will try to use this to my advantage when talking about things rather than as an excuse, thank you.
