Phrenotopia

10:40 "But"? I'm generally with you, Tristan, but... the Bantu expansion was not good for the indigenous San in principle. We have papers based on both archeology and genetics clearly showing Bantu peoples displaced indigenous San and Khoi peoples. So in that sense, even if its effect wasn't as profound, it isn't essentially different from the European expansion into the area. So I personally wouldn't denote the former as "cool" and the latter as "shit" per se, even though I agree that targeted exploitation started with the VOC and culminated during Apartheid years. Now let me be very clear: I do NOT believe that the progress of humanity is a zero-sum game, even if it appears that that has been going on a lot in history, unfortunately. However, a lot that you say about the Bantu influx, like the introduction of technology and "cool weapons" can be said about the European colonization as well. The emergence of the Coloured peoples (that I think are cool too) are an example that history is NOT a zero-sum game, and that the coming together of diversity can create exciting new cultures.

Step Back

I guess perspective when it's that far back gets shifted. I appreciate the criticism
