Not going to lie, every time I see one of your casters, I can't help but notice the tattoos/scarring on them and wonder what significance it has in setting. It's clearly a common practice, and so it presumably has some kind of benefit besides just cosmetics and advertisement since it seems like it'd be a pain to do on your own unless it's some kind of spontaneous manifestation thing like Dreamscarred Press's Cryptic Class from their Psionic rules for 1st Edition Pathfinder. Basically, where their "spellbook" spontaneously manifests directly on their skin and lights up when they use the associated abilities. Otherwise, I'm wondering how these folks are applying these things, unless someone's doing it professionally or they're added by peers, friends, or lovers who also know magic. Body modification spells might do it, but then that still leaves me wondering what the benefits of them are besides looking cool.

So basically the magic equivalent of writing test notes on your hands. Makes their placement a bit sus, but otherwise fairly practical. From a mechanical perspective, maybe they reduce Fuck-Up Roll penalties, but only for specific spells, and the complexity of the spell and degree of reduction determine the size, with a limited amount of visible "canvas" based on character size.
