Gremlin Dave 2020

Jordan Sam

I go to a grad school for Public Health work and there is so much I want to say about the importance of vaccines and herd immunity and how such epidemics are unfairly indiscriminate except towards the elderly and children but this is already turning into a rant that I don’t want to annoy others with. Sorry.

Gotta agree. Strikes me as saying that Instrumentality was the best outcome in NGE.

Gremlin Dave is on to something.

I'm for maximum personal freedom. IMO shouldn’t the right to not use vaccines be connected to the right to not be killed/sterilized for being a stupid idiot? For the record I do recognize the science behind vaccines. However, the "Big Pharma" we have is only good at buying up rights to drugs and raising the prices - like free goes to $375K a year... They don't spend jack on researching new drugs, just re-do old ones. Thus we have an "Antibiotic Apocalypse" pending with bacteria going resistant, perhaps the obesity issue might be related to lots of gut bacteria destroyed by medicine - and with all the forced international travel and trade - any vaccine gets countered and the bugs spread. I think what should be fascinating - and perhaps fodder for this comic is the media manipulation that turns everything into “For/Against” where both sides get stereotyped into ridiculous extremes that cancel each other. With the Vaccine issue it’s either “Nutty Luddite Antivaxxers” or “Right thinking people who believe the science”... They expertly dodge around “Big Pharma” and other issues - complex but running into greed and protection from liability being a potential big problem even if there’s no “Autism” link. Furthermore, though the ‘autism’ link has been de-bunked unless you dare challenge the popular groupthink and fall into the ‘other’ stereotype - do you think for a second some corporate suit wouldn’t pour toxin into a vat of vaccine if it cheaply preserved the thing so he didn’t have to make more or pay for it to be refrigerated…? Coz he only answers to his investors and is protected from liability by a ‘vaccine court’ in the USA that doles out some money each year then blocks any and all lawsuits from any others, be it 1 or 1 million. One he doesn’t pay for. As long as he isn’t on facebook and YouTube posting videos laughing how the preservatives will kill or maim a dozen or so sensitive kids and the USA (how is it in Europe?) is a sucker for trusting him there’s not a penny he’ll lose - but on the other hand he could lose big money if investors sued him for not being vicious and greedy enough… For the record I’m for using vaccines. BUT we need to declare “Big Pharma” public Enemy #1 and work out lots of $ into some sane network of doctors and researchers to make sure there is no danger and prevent the “End of Antibiotics/Vaccines” just around the horizon of the next few decades at best.

I am for personal freedoms too and you do point out some important issues. I even had to do a paper that looked into better use of and research of Antibiotics for the said Grad School I mentioned. What I guess what worries me is how those who do fall into those For/Against divides seem to fight to the death for their beliefs and those deaths are never their own or anyone directly tied to them. I just always worry that if nothing is said or pointed out, a completely neutral person might take the argument as a sort of ‘damned if you do, damned if you don’t’ situation and end up not vaccinating when they really should.

Okay, so a quick note to all the pseudo-libertarians posting about this. Being unvaccinated does not effect only the person unvaccinated. It weakens the entire herd immunity and allows at risk people to be infected, and pathogen mutation can effect previously vaccinated individuals. That's why vaccines are/should be mandatory. The choice does not just affect you, it affects everyone you interact with. You do not get to make a personal choose to endanger the health of society. full stop. end of discussion. If you have a disagreement with this idea. stop. you're wrong.

Vice & Violence

Just for clarity, Dave's stance is that the easiest way to combat pollution and climate change is if a few billion people died of horrible disease. He's a lazy Thanos.
