Maybe the fifth is an amalgamation of all of the old gods, a living avatar dedicated to their will and the end-all-be-all evil that needs to be beat.

They’ve resorted to tearing chunks off their bodies and throwing them at the planet, creating monsters called Celestials. They’re basically stranded on the moons starving to death at this point.

That was fun, in a “Mount Olympus” kind’a way. Buuuut it’s the sort of thing that requires a lot of investing in storytelling and lore to flesh out, for something that’s been done quite a lot. “Powerless gods” might seem a little depressing at the moment but I’m hoping to make it quite a humanist, hopeful, fun little thing.

Hey I trust ya, you have a lot of concepts that I like to the point I include some in my own table top games I do for my friends. And these Avatars could be fun, I like the tidbit of a missing Avatar since it gives the room for groups to put in their own, such as I would be up for a Vore based one since I love that stuff ;p and one of my friends has experimented with that.

They were idiots to begin with, and when the dwarves spilled the beans on the whole 'reset the world when it gets boring' schtick and rebelling people started taking all the magic for themselves, they went into full panic mode.

So how do the Astrognostics fit into this new iteration? Especially since the names of the gods has been retconned out?

I’ll be retconning that out with the Paladin + Warlock rework. Temples will be a bit more secular and philosophical, geared towards education and the *sensible* study of magic, with a militant wing dedicated to T’hot and fighting against blood cults, sorcerers, celestials and the fae. So our Paladins will be more like inquisitors, with abilities like sensing magic and protecting from spells and status effects.

Perhaps the jellyfish is their 'native' form, or the closest a mortal can perceive it, and they choose to use avatars because it works better when interacting with mortals?
