Holiday Special #1 - Blind Chaos Art (Patreon)
Content
Hey guys, I'm looking at doing just a basic M-W-F schedule, same time as usual for these.
Today I'll be unveiling some never-before-released art that hasn't been finished yet (hopefully soon-ish I'll have the final colors, these are just the inks) and giving you guys a bit more insight into my paragraph breaks.
Wednesday I'll be sharing A Rogue and The Merchant, a cute little short story I wrote about a month before I started Blind Chaos.
And Friday? Well, we'll see when it comes!
So, let's get into what I have to share today. First of all, for those that aren't on the discord, here's the finished art work of Ranthia's OG knives (designed by Sarah "Neila" Elkins!):
You can also see these pugio-inspired knives on the cover, of course. But this isn't the only set I commissioned. Behold, the ink line art for examples of the bulk knives Ranthia's been using since she became a Ranger:
These were always intended to be the sorts of knives that a blacksmith might make their apprentice make or hammer out to test the properties of a new batch of iron. Cheap iron knives to be sold to non-picky citizens at prices barely above the cost of materials, and they're all too happy to sell the lot to the Rangers at cost since it saves them from having to try and keep them in stock or melt 'em back down!
So, now for some insight. I've shared this next image before, but here's the embiggened (...how is that a valid word?) version of my L1 paragraph break.
The knives in here should look pretty familiar to you. The green whatsit (that's the technical term the artist and I used) is decorative, but that silvery sphere is meant to represent Ranthia's first (probably final) element: Mirror.
Onto the L2 version, unveiled here for the first time in embiggened (technically original size) form:
That's right, there's the cheap knives! The whatsit is a bit more elaborate, and a second sphere joins the first, this one pitch black and representing Ranthia's second (hopefully final) element: Void.
So what about the L3 paragraph break? Well, for now I'll just say the symbol of the five gods is at the top of it. But there's other things in there to discover too!
I've always been curious how much attention people paid to my paragraph dividers and how many people had theories about the different aspects to it. Did any of you already know some of what I unveiled today?
Thank you all for supporting me, whether you've followed me since the beginning or for a single month, I greatly appreciate all of you! It's been a very emotional journey for me to share Ranthia's journey--the first story I've ever shared with more than a literal few friends. And I look forward to sharing what's to come!
Ranthia's journey is far from done. We're closing in on the finale of book 1, but book 2 will be starting up immediately after! I'm also about to come up in Nozomi's queue, so work on the cover should begin very soon!
