Chapter 23: The Invasion of Remus

In which Ranthia breaks a kid's heart and it barely feels meaningful by the time the chapter's done!

I've always been surprised by how popular the elf trio was on BtDEM's discord.

Selkie was enthusiastic about me having them appear in Blind Chaos, so my rewrite arc here in Remus felt like a great place to introduce them!

Have I mentioned that Ranthia isn't Elaine? That feels relevant here.

From the elves' perspective though, things make more sense. They were wary about bandits and here a signal of some sort goes off right next to them? Yeah, responding with force makes a certain amount of sense. Especially when their opponent proves able to punch up to close to their level.

A brief skirmish (that Ranthia was steadily losing) later, the battle comes to an abrupt end when Aegion—in many ways the most level-headed member of the group—recognizes her badge and has Cordamo snatch it, then stop Awarthril before she can do something unfortunate.

The elves are... apologetic in their own way, but Ranthia strangely isn't quite so taken with them!

She made her own share of mistakes. Ocean got to find out they were elves before he ever left the city, and Ranthia absolutely should have sought more distance before she signaled (which... would not have changed much, admittedly).

But peace has been found! Somehow. Ranthia's still trying to catch up with events.
