Chapter 46: Seeing I

(Original Chapter Title: Seeing)

One of the funniest flaws to the System that Selkie designed is the fact is presented here: if the System sees a Skill merger or upgrade as a direct improvement with zero lost functionality, it's automatically taken. Selkie really only used this in a negative way once when they took away Elaine's [Pretty] Skill via an (initially) unwanted merger.

...I'm not so nice, thus Ranthia gets a new sense tacked onto her overextended mind with zero warning. In the middle of a fight.

Honestly, I figure more than a few people have been killed thanks to the System doing this! Getting new senses or suddenly overpowered senses is very, very possible with the System. And this is an extreme example too, it doesn't necessarily take something quite so severe to throw someone off for just one precious moment.

Fortunately for Ranthia, she was loud and she wasn't alone.

As much as I wanted Ranthia to be pivotal to the conclusion of the war, humanity was ill-suited to accomplish the feat. The elven elites just had too much of an advantage to make Ranthia's inclusion believable. Instead, I focused on her story within the final stages of the conflict. She wasn't going to bring down the final twins single-handedly, but the time was ripe for her to learn a few things about herself.

And after that, Ranthia's main goal wasn't to seek blood—she's a [Priestess], after all! What better way to embrace her new role than to preserve what life she could, while she grappled with weighty questions that were beyond her paygrade?
