Chapter 48: A Graceless Act

(Original Chapter Title: The Fallen Sentinel)

Yeah, I was staring into the middle distance over the original chapter title. Way to fucking spoil the twist, pastCrim. There wasn't even any real chance of a Sentinel being killed around this time to possibly mislead those that struggle with context!

This class up has been a long time coming, in a lot of ways. But sometimes you just need a new perspective on the same questions to find your answer.

As a reminder, I'm still on the OG draft, despite that I've now edited it into four books at this point (and a few chapters will be severed into book 5's opening act). And let me tell you, between these Skills and [Divine Eyes in the Void], editing and revising Ranthia's older adventures was a chore and a half! Especially when I got Ranthia's first Void-based Vision Skill—way back in book 2—the urge to write [Divine Eyes in the Void] instead lurked in my fingertips. It's hard to revise old content when you know what advancements are coming. Names want to slip in early and trying to remember "wait, she can't do that yet" haunted me at every step.

I wouldn't change the editing process for the world—the Blind Chaos that you all read is so much stronger than the OG draft—but it was very much a process.

Ranthia has finally found her answer though. It's... kind of obvious, once she pieces it together. Or at least I think it should be. Ranthia never asked to be a Sentinel—she even realized as much back when she taught at the Academy—and 'duty' had never been important to her until she convinced herself it was all she had, back when Ranger Team 13 fell. Even entering the Ranger Academy had been more of a "well, why not" moment than something Ranthia truly cared about.

Typical immortal, she gets sidetracked for an entire century by something she never truly meant to do.

But Ranthia has finally found her path. And thus every situation is resolved!

...Oh, right, she's deep inside a military base. One that she just decided she doesn't belong in.
