Chapter 52: Minor Interlude – Lumornor – The Pursuit of Progress

(Original Chapter Title: Minor Interlude – Lumornor – Progress Sought)

This is a rare sort of chapter for Blind Chaos. BtDEM readers (with strong retention) will be having a dramatically different reaction to this chapter than those who haven't read it. ...At least until the end.

Throughout my editing process for the OG draft, I've remained excited and impatient to get to this arc. I don't want to spoil anything, but I will say that, as a whole, book 5 should have an entirely different feel to the readers than the previous books. But hey, that's true of each book in Blind Chaos to date, at least on some level. Assuming I've been doing anything right.

Writing Lumornor is interesting. While he's technically one of Selkie Myth's characters, BtDEM does nothing to establish his personality. In a lot of ways, he's basically my character to create as I see fit. I do have some guidance from Selkie—they planned some of book 5 with me, long ago—but those are little more than a few guideposts. It's up to me to fill in the lines.

Lumornor is undeniably more obvious with his pride and arrogance than any other perspective I've ever written. He's methodical (not that this chapter makes a compelling argument for that, admittedly), but he's also adaptive. One of my favorite quirks about this chapter is how dismissive he is of people/things until he's proven wrong; at that point the shame rests with anyone else that fails to recognize their value. It's most visible with his 180 on Aegion, but it's also present in his lament about other elves ignoring the Medical Manuscripts without his name added to them.

Anyhow, look forward to what's to come! For Book 4 is finally complete!

May I never face such peril with the maximum page length of PoD softcovers ever again.
