EN: Researching Narcissism — A Personal Note

Hey babes, let's get serious.

These past months I’ve been diving deep into the subject of narcissism. The more I’ve read, the more I’ve observed, the more I’ve realized something striking: everyone has a story. Whether we talk about it openly or ignore it, there always seems to be a narcissist somewhere in the background — shaping our lives in ways we didn’t fully notice until later.

In this research I came across a method for dealing with narcissists that I believe is worth sharing. It’s simple in words, but profound in practice:

DEEP:

Don’t defend.Don’t engage.Don’t explain.Don’t personalize.

Here’s what each of these means:

1. Don’t Defend. When a narcissist attacks, criticizes, or twists your reality, your natural impulse is to defend yourself. But the moment you defend, you’re already playing by their rules. Withholding defense doesn’t mean you agree; it means you refuse to waste your energy on a battle you can’t win.

2. Don’t Engage.Engagement is the oxygen narcissists breathe. They thrive on pulling you into arguments, drama, or circular conversations. By not engaging — staying silent, walking away, or giving a neutral response — you deny them the fuel they’re seeking.

3. Don’t Explain.Narcissists aren’t listening to understand; they’re listening to twist. Explaining yourself only provides them with more material. Protect your clarity. You don’t owe them your explanations.

4. Don’t Personalize. This may be the hardest. Narcissistic behavior feels so personal — the insults, the blame, the manipulation. But in reality, it’s about them, not you. Their actions reflect their wounds, their ego, their emptiness. When you stop personalizing, you stop carrying their weight on your shoulders.

This method is not about shutting down your voice — it’s about reclaiming your power. It’s about stepping outside of their endless game and saying: I don’t play anymore.

Along with this reflection, I’m sharing this portrait with you today — a piece of myself that reflects my personal journey dealing with narcissism. For those of you in the AGUA and TIERRA tiers, I’ll be releasing the rest of the series later today.

Do you have experience dealing with narcissism?

With care,Erick

ES: Investigando el Narcisismo — Una Nota Personal

Hola bebés, vamos a ponernos serios.

No te defiendas. No te enganches. No expliques. No lo tomes como algo personal.

Esto es lo que significa cada uno:

DEEP

1. No te defiendas.

2. No te enganches.

3. No expliques.

I’m in close proximity to a narcissistic parent… the toll it takes on their children is so sad to see. Those wounds are hard to heal.

I’m so sorry 😞 the pain of knowing you parent is a narcissist is just incomparable. I recently open my eyes to this reality and it feels like the biggest grief and betrayal I’ve ever experienced in my life. I’m in the process of healing, but understanding whatever happened wasn’t about me is helping in my healing process. I wish you the best Rashaun… I know how hard it is
