EN:

For as long as I can remember, my biggest fear has been expectations.

I used to see them as a demon—something chasing me, paralyzing me, making me believe that if I disappointed someone, I would somehow become less worthy of being loved.

I learned early not to expect anything from anyone. To be strong. To manage my own emotions, and somehow everyone else’s too. I became proud of being “stoic,” without realizing that sometimes stoicism was just fear wearing the mask of strength.

But these days, I’ve realized the demon is still there. I feel it in my body. When expectations are triggered, I want to disappear, withdraw, hide—even from the people I love most.

The difference now is that I no longer want to hide it.

I know its name. I know where it comes from. I know what it does to me.

And I’m learning that it’s okay to expect things from people. It’s okay to be disappointed. It’s okay to be hurt. And it’s okay to disappoint others too.

Because none of that makes us monsters.

It makes us human.

Maybe this fear will chase me for the rest of my life. But I no longer want to run from it.

I want to face it, ask for help when I need it, and remind myself that being imperfect does not make me unlovable.

Maybe the real freedom isn’t having no expectations.

Maybe it’s knowing that when expectations hurt, I will still be okay.
