EN: BULL-HEADED BY NATURE ♉️🐂 — THE TAURUS CONNECTION
Babies! Did you know that the English expression bull-headed has been used to describe stubborn people since at least 1818? And as a Taurus myself, I find the connection between this expression and my zodiac sign fascinating. Let’s get into it! 🖤
🐂 WHAT DOES “BULL-HEADED” ACTUALLY MEAN?
In English, bull-headed means stubborn, headstrong, or so determined to hold your position that you refuse to consider alternatives. Think of someone who won't change their mind, no matter how many arguments you present. In Spanish, we might call that person terco, obstinado or cabezota.
The expression combines two simple elements: bull + headed. Its figurative meaning is recorded in English from the early nineteenth century, with etymological sources dating it to 1818. The image behind it is easy to understand: a powerful animal that seems determined to push forward rather than be redirected.
Here's a fun linguistic detail: the word Taurus itself comes from Latin taurus, meaning “bull.” So although bull-headed did not originate from astrology, both expressions share the same animal imagery. 🐂
♉️ WHY IS THE BULL ASSOCIATED WITH TAURUS?
Taurus is represented by the bull, one of the zodiac's oldest animal symbols. The constellation has deep roots in ancient cultures, including Mesopotamia, where it was associated with the “Bull of Heaven.”
In Western astrology, Taurus is an earth sign and one of the four fixed signs. Within that symbolic framework, fixed signs are associated with persistence, stability and resistance to change. Taurus, in particular, is traditionally described as grounded, patient, loyal, determined and, yes… stubborn.
That is where the connection becomes interesting: bull-headed isn't an astrological term, but it describes a trait that popular astrology frequently attributes to Taurus.
🖤 IS STUBBORNNESS A FLAW OR A SUPERPOWER?
I think it depends on how we use it.
The negative side of being bull-headed is refusing to listen, confusing pride with conviction, or holding on to something simply because admitting you're wrong feels uncomfortable.
But there's another side to stubbornness: perseverance. It's the ability to keep going when things get difficult, defend your values when others challenge them, and remain committed to something even when the easier option would be to give up.
Sometimes the very quality that makes someone difficult to convince is also what makes them difficult to defeat.
The real challenge is knowing the difference between standing your ground because you believe in something and standing your ground because you cannot bear to change your mind.
MY TAURUS TAKE ♉️
I like the idea that being bull-headed doesn't have to mean being unreasonable. It can mean having roots deep enough to keep you grounded, while still allowing yourself to grow.
A bull has strength, presence and determination. But strength without flexibility can become a limitation. Maybe the goal isn't to stop being stubborn, but to become conscious of when that stubbornness serves us and when it holds us back.
And perhaps that's the most interesting part of this little connection between language and astrology: a word that can sound like an insult can also become an invitation to understand ourselves better.
Of course, astrology is a symbolic and cultural tradition, not scientific evidence that everyone born under Taurus has a particular personality. But as a metaphor? I think there's plenty to explore. 😉
NOW, BABIES, I WANT TO KNOW:
🐂 Are you bull-headed?
♉️ If you're a Taurus, do you recognize yourself in this description?
🖤 And what's one thing you refuse to compromise on, even when everyone tells you to change your mind?
Tell me in the comments. Let's see how many stubborn souls we have around here! 😂
ES: TERCO POR NATURALEZA ♉️🐂 — LA CONEXIÓN CON TAURO
¡Babies! ¡Vamos a descubrirla! 🖤
AHORA QUIERO SABER ALGO, BABIES:
