Snowstorm in Madrid / Tormenta de nieve en Madrid (Patreon)
Content
EN: Three weeks ago, Madrid was covered in snow for the very first time in 50 years. Ruben (the model) and I decided to be bold and attempt to shoot in the snow. I personally wanted to stay inside Madrid, since there was going to be snow all over the city anyway, but Ruben wanted a more dramatic location. We headed to Torrelodones, which is 20 mins away. I was thrilled and nervous since this was my very first time dealing with snow.
We climbed up a mountain and as soon as we got to this tower around 4pm, I proceeded to photograph him wearing clothes, so he gets used to the weather. He slowly started to take his garments off till he finally got fully naked. Ruben was mentally prepared for this, but the actual experience was worst than he thought. We weren't able to do lots of photos as the weather was obviously unbearable. The shoot had to be stopped before he got hypothermia. He was shaking way too much, so we called it a wrap.
Once we were back in the car, we realised the storm was quite harsh. Roads were blocked. We first waited at a local cafe. I was planning to sleep over there, but we were told our way back to Madrid had been plowed. We left immediately so we could be home before midnight. Long story short, that didn't happen. The city's infrastructure and logistic could not handle snow. We had slept in the car as we got stuck in the snow along with hundreds of unprepared drivers. We were rescued by the army the morning after. Our car remained in the snow for 4 days with my camera inside. Both were given to us a week later.
So this is the story behind these photos. I truly wished I could had made a full Cover Story out of this, but it was impossible 😞
