Dear friends,

We've been receiving a lot of messages requesting that we give players the opportunity to save the elf's mother. What do you think about that idea?

If you have any ideas about how best to go about doing that, please share them in the comments section or send us a direct message on Discord (Feyada#2552).

It seemed a bit like a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation. It's almost too easy to accidently mess up the rest of your playthrough.

Perhaps make it so that if you are out hunting that night you can stumble across the elfs mother and slay the animals before she gets killed. This could end up in a secret "scene" with a now grateful elf or perhaps a reward like an artifact or a new battle move (elven magic or healing?)

Could have something like needing to do another side quest to get an optional item that allows you to rescue her. Maybe like an item that causes the wolf's to flee as you get near so they don't have a chance to attack

Gonna side with the minority on this one. It might be refined and improved-upon, but it enhances the narrative. Also, makes the player worry for the main character's sister, because it shows the game's willing to go there.

Perhaps a situation where mc arrived a bit earlier, in time to engage and kill all of the Druid’s pet wolves, and maybe even sink an arrow into the retreating druid. Getting the elf mother to her daughter, in time to talk, but after all is done, she still succumbs to her wounds. In this way the elf won’t blame the MC, and he can comfort her for her loss. The burial scene won’t be wasted, and the elf lass can be there to grieve. Having the mother live long enough at least to find out about her other daughter that was murdered, and telling her daughter what she thinks of the human hunter, would settle a lot of issues without needing to graft in a whole new character story and slow development. I love the idea of passing on something as a reward. Perhaps an ancient family heirloom. My mind is running away with this now,…. Maybe if the large RGB gems have specific characteristics related to attack/defense/hunter’s instinct, then the heirloom could be something that would combine the 3 gems into a “prismatic” gem type with all 3 characteristics, and something additional, like magic invulnerability. Perhaps if there were quests through which these prismatic gems could be transformed into a substance that could be further transformed into things like bowstring, or thread which could be an unbreakable fishing line, or which Arachne could weave into greatly superior clothing/armor. The substance could through a quest, be shaped by the blacksmith or his daughter into things like sword/arrowheads, etc

The fact that it's definitive makes it sooo much better. Deaths in this game won't mean anything. If she can come back, anyone can. You are not giving death the impact that should have. This is more towards the people who voted yes. We have more beautiful girls still alive and perhaps we might get some extra scenes for them that would go into the elf's mother instead. Trust me, you dont want to see a characters death and feel like nothing happened.

I have to admit this is a hard choice for me. I can see the value of showing how dangerous an enemy the elves can be, but since you have to lie to the elf about it later, it feels like much of that emotional gutpunch is lost. If anything, bringing Momma back to her daughter alive but greviously injured could be even more powerful. Perhaps she can be saved through a "race against time" quest to gather the necessary herbs and potions, requiring Hunter to reveal the existence of the elf to Mirina or even the Witch. This would allow for the elf ladies to see that there are more humans who aren't violently racist, and bring several of the LIs closer together as characters. Edited to add: This could work well even if Momma Elf dies. Hunter, Elain, Mirina and the Witch wind up working together in a desperate attempt to save Melf but ultimately fail. Even through the bitter loss, the four bond through adversity and become something closer to a cohesive group. Live or die, though, Elain sees that there are more humans who are decent (possibly her mother recognizes this before she dies, too), and Mirina and the Witch are forced to deal with each other for the first time since the nuns left the Witch's house.

I won’t vote yes or no. I expect most people would be on board with the idea of saving her, because her living would mean one more potential harem members down the line, and moreover no one likes to see an attractive woman be mauled to death. I believe, however, that ultimately the choice should come down to what your writer or writers think is best for the narrative. That being said, I do have some issues with how the event takes place in the game currently: namely that a) the game makes it seem like it’s the player’s fault, when there was nothing they could do about it; and b) the consequences of your conversation with the elf girl afterwards seem a bit contrived. First, the game makes it seem like the player’s fault, and not the character's. You’re told to go to the forest at a certain time; you go there, the mother is dead. It's said that you were too late. However, there’s nothing stopping you, the player, from going to the forest earlier, or taking out some wolves via hunting, etc., but nothing you do matters, because it’s a fixed plot point. If a fixed plot point is what you want, I think it could be a good idea to introduce some reason why the hunter arrives too late: maybe another one of the girls needed him that day, or maybe he got attacked as well on his way to the meeting point. It’s just that, as it currently stands, the game seems to be judging the player for something they can’t control. Second, the elf girl’s reaction to hearing the truth seems a bit extreme to me. At the point in the game where this happens, the hunter has demonstrated multiple times that he is on her side, has shown interest in her culture (cherries, rituals, etc.), and has even put himself in danger to protect her from an elf elder—he didn’t even know if he could actually beat it. Now, they haven’t known each other for a long while, but in the context of a game narrative (which naturally tends to be abridged a little), it seems to me that the elf girl should be fully convinced that the hunter is her ally. With this in mind, it’s a bit jarring that, when the hunter is honest with her and tells her he arrived too late, she would immediately go on about how he betrayed her, and “all humans are trash”, etc., because from what she’s come to know of him, I feel like she should be clearly aware that the hunter is anything but that, and she should expect that, had there been anything he could’ve done to prevent this, he would have. Now, consider an alternate version of the game: say the player had a choice in how to treat the elf girl, either well or poorly. They could give her good food to eat (maybe more than cherries, because those won’t make for a balanced diet), or give her slop; they could buy her commodities to make her comfortable, or have her wear rags, etc. If, after treating her poorly, and keeping her like a slave, etc., the hunter came back to tell the elf girl that her mother was killed, it would make a lot more sense for her to assume that it was out of negligence and not simply misfortune, and that all humans truly are against her. In this case, I wouldn’t question it at all if she committed suicide, because it really would seem like a hopeless situation, from her point of view. However, in the game as it currently exists, while the elf girl isn’t in a stress-free situation, she does have a small group of allies, as well as a devoted benefactor/lover in the hunter. If she would commit suicide in this situation, why didn’t she do so when she was initially captured by the innkeeper? Wasn’t her situation significantly more dire then? The only other explanation I can think of is that she feels responsible for her mother’s death, seeing that it was she who contacted her, but her tirade against the hunter and humans in general doesn’t really come across that way, at least in my opinion. (If there's something I feel like the hunter should still do for the elf girl, however, it's doing something to help her regain her freedom and autonomy, like a spell akin to the maid's, which would let her walk around without coming under attack.)

Keenir

perhaps we could bring the wounded elf mum to our home, and tend to her so she recover - however slowly...maybe needing herbs and meds from the red-headed nun?

BRooo

I just would like a an option to tell the elf in a later time when you have a better relation ship with the elf so she doesn do what she originally do after that.

Ironfontz

Options, users can choose are always right. But if you give us a chance to save her mother, We may get lesser-empathy and sorrow for Elain's abused life.(just my thought, though.) In spite of hunter's best efforts, The scene that mother is saved alive by Hunter but got captured (and wounded) by enemies before his sight, may seem enough for motivating Hunter and Elain furious surely.

Shali Wolfy~

I think it rather undermines the plot point by making it optional, but you do you.

Ahkmatova

That's a really hard call to make. Perhaps have a quest that gets players a certain potion that can save her but in order to get it players would need to o clear a quest or condition. Maybe in the caves a special route presents itself "through the looking glass" or a personal favorite, be befriended to the vamp and she's in the area, turn her to save her. That'd be darker but it's there. Something that players will have to somewhat work for. A bit more rewarding that way but it also opens up the worry "what if I find someone else I can use this one"

Destiny is all

well if we're going to save her we also need a chance to...

Riidher66776

Saving the mother would entail arriving earlier to be able to fight off the wolves. Securing the mother's friendship could lead to additional info on the druid

muiun

Perhaps saving the mother should have permanent negative consequences on the PC? Maybe lose some stats or max health permanently.

Words

With enough affection with the vampire lady, maybe you could have her turn the elf's mother. Possibly there would be severe consequences for that... I could imagine you might bring a companion with you into a dangerous situation, so there could be even a choice of witch or vampire. Or it could just be that they're watching you and are willing to jump in.

7of9serinos

Please, at least give us the chance to save her life. It could be insanely difficult and require a ton of prep and must be within a certain time limit. But, ngl, I would love the chance to have both the elf and her mom be added to my scene collection.

Austin

Will we have a chance to save her in th8s next version?
