Dear friends,

Do you think that it's worth adding a "Skip Minigame" button to the Labyrinth minigame in the cave and the Survival minigame in the forest? To refresh your memory, these are both part of quests for the arms trader (Quests 22 and 13, respectively).

Idk, Never died on those, was pretty fun for me. But i can see how they could get frustrating. Maybe add the option on a drathscreen when they fail?

BlueJayX2

I'd say skip button after two fails tbh.

EliteK

I don't know who has trouble with mini games. They're very simple and you can ways run them back.

BlueJayX2

Or add incentives for not skipping.

Rob

Maybe go halfway. I like the idea of adding like a jornal you can find that explains the effects and/or values of the mushrooms. It dumbs down the mini game a little but takes a lot of the frustration out of trial and error

I'm not typically fond of mini games. Aside from the tedious nature, my "hand-eye" coordination and reflexes make them more irritating than fun. So, yes, having an option to skip them is important to me. These two mini games, however, rely on a lot of trial and error (for the first few playthroughs). It would be better to at least give the player some hint(s) for what exactly they are trying to accomplish. Going in blind as a new player could get incredibly frustrating.

I liked this mini, but skip should be an option.

Keenir

maybe have a Skip option for minigames that repeat or recur...like if this is the third time a villager or the witch has sent you into the forest to get something, you can skip the hunting minigame.

dzeath

More options for the user are never a problem. Have it toggleable in options with maybe another option of the "skip" button show after failing the minigame twice.

Daniel

One thing that might be an option to help with that mini game specifically, might be to have the food salesman sell a guide to the mushrooms, and the arms dealer could sell some tools that would allow you to skip the game all together. Perhaps similar things could be put in for other games?

Gato909

The mini game isn't all that hard to figure out if you do some trial an error and use the back button a lot if your choices end up doing something wrong.

Sean Davenport

If there is a skip I think it should only be active after they try at least once. And maybe use a special token or some of his gold to buy the skip... maybe they could find a skip relic they can use to skip the mini games...idk personally I love the mini games

BillyMags

optional choices are always best choices as long as it doesnt detract from story/flow of the game

Cosmo

IMO, Mini games should always be 'optional'. Completing the Mini game should net some kind of reward as an incentive to play, but also shouldn't penalize the player if they are unwilling or unable to complete it. It is the current trend nowadays to give up on something challenging (and potentially fun) in order to reach quicker gratification. Players, don't like to be 'forced' into situations/mini games, especially if said event is 'required' to advance the story.

PandaManSwagger

I really enjoy the minigames and I hope they keep on being added to the game. They feel like a good change of pace to add more variety but I do think it should be an optional choice instead of a requirement. Frankly put, most players probably won't care and just want to skip ahead to the parts that do interest them.

If you need to add a "skip" button to a minigame, then you designed a mediocre minigame. Which then begs the question that if you're so lacking in confidence in your work that you're telling people to not bother with entire swaths of it, then is your work worth experiencing in the first place?

Boneyard

Honestly just have a moder that focuses on Story like an Easy Mode. A bit annoying to program, but it should be a fine balance for those that come here for story.

Lord Nexros

I'd prefer not skip, but instead have a more dynamic way to skip quests that have been done on previous versions.

Cptgngbeard

Mini games are supposed to be frustrating , annoying and tedious, so time consuming it's stupid. But not to the point where it stops people playing the main game, have them to a certain level for the story and extra hard for content 🤔

Billy Bob

Honestly, I don't play these sorts of games for the minigames, I am just here for the plot and the art so having the option to be able to skip minigames would be a blessing for me.

Shali Wolfy~

If your mini-games are so frustrating, annoying, and tedious as to require a skip button, the solution isn't to add a button to avoid them. What you need to do is reevaluated your values and goals as a studio from the ground up, then redesign the minigames to actually be enjoyable for the players.
