Haiku is hard to write in English…

Anyway, thank you to everyone who participated in last week’s poll.

It was a very close run between Mr Frog and Bashô, but the latter just eked out a win.

If you’re wondering why Matsuo Bashô is a monkey here, it’s because the real Japanese poet, on whom the character is based on, produced an anthology of many stanzas, verses and poems back in 1691 titled Sarumino 猿蓑  or Monkey’s Raincoat (by raincoat, those cloaks made of straw you see in samurai movies and things).  Funnily enough, Bashô in Yaiba almost defeated everybody by turning them into stone…

If you’re wondering what that circumflex (that little triangle thing above the o) is, it’s meant to indicate that it’s a long vowel at the end.  I don’t know why people mispronouncing Koume as “Ko-Uu-May” drove me doolally but it did (probably why they went with an 'h' in Kohga later on).   So out of habit, I’ve started using macrons and circumflexes now.  Plus I think they look cool.

Regardless, thank you for voting and please look forward what I’ll produce of him.  Once I figure out how…
