Comic #907: Top DPS (Patreon)

For my readers not up to date with the game, the characters listed on Narya's meters in the final panel are the NPCs from the follower dungeon. Follower dungeons are effectively a way to run normal dungeons solo, with the other 4 group slots filled with NPCs controlled by AI. As you might expect, these NPCs do not do a particularly impressive amount of damage.

I tried out this feature for the first time last week and was really impressed with it. I immediately had several ideas for a comic, but ended up settling on this one. My first idea was actually going to be the dungeon NPCs rage quitting and cussing out Keydar or Narya. The punchline was going to be delivered by Keydar with something along the lines of "Wow this AI is so realistic" or something like that.

I kept thinking about ideas through the run, until I saw the damage meters at the end of the dungeon. The fact that the NPCs did so little damage made me think there must be a joke in there. I knew it had to be either Keydar, Narya, or Donald. I ended up feeling that the dialogue in this particular comic fit Narya best. Most of what's going on here felt a little over Donald's head, and Keydar is more of a fail mechanics guy, and less of a bad DPS guy.

I also initially had Narya say "I didn't die ONCE thank you very much" in the third panel, and then realized it would be way funnier in hindsight if he died twice in a follower dungeon, and thought that was an accomplishment.
