Comic #911: Outlier (Patreon)
Content
This was an intentional callback to #795. For those of you who remember my Patreon post for that comic, I hilariously and unintentionally ripped off MY OWN JOKE from years earlier in comic #594. I decided this time to flip the expectations of the punchline. Instead of what is expected, which is Keydar swapping specs or class, he doubles down and wholesomely enjoys his fantasy.
Every since it's introduction in Legion, Outlaw has been my favorite and main spec, so this comic is kind of my artistic expression of going down with the proverbial ship.
The concept here was really simple, but in ended up being a lot of work to execute.
The pirate talk was way harder than I anticipated. I actually ended up using a little help from ChatGPT to help me tighten up my lingo.
The poses and expressions were also a lot of trial and error. I ended up having to act them out as references. I had to put one foot up on the bed like a doofus to get that pose for the final panel.
The bird also took a bit of effort to get the look down how I wanted it. I never was very happy with how the parrot looked in #795 and wanted to be sure I liked how it ended up.
I also was trying really hard to get this down to 5 panels. I tried cutting out the first panel and almost went with it before I realized it completely neutralized the final panel. The first and final panel mirror one another, and the first panel makes the final feel like a return to form.
As usual, there are extra jokes in the newspaper. Here's the spread. You may notice I reused a couple headlines from #795, since I knew nobody would be able to see them anyway.
