I hadn't decided to end the comics until I was a couple episodes into this arc. Because of that, this one originally had a different ending. Initially it ended with Narya spinning the bracer and Krom yelling, "NO!" Which is pretty much how I ended the arc in #500, with Gigz threatening to start it all over again.

After I realized it would be the last comic, I knew I wanted a more meaningful ending, maybe something wholesome, like the whole gang running a dungeon. In the end I decided Krom doing the deed and letting Narya into the run was a nice send off. But I still needed to have him be a screw-up. It also gave me an opportunity to include Gigz healing Keydar's corpse, to mirror #1.

I actually initially had Donald in the fire, before I realized I had 7 guild members in the dungeon. I then panicked and decided Donald must be on the bench. Poor guy.

I struggled at first to figure out how to show they were truly back (for panel 2). The background is already fantasy, so I couldn't really do what I did in the last comic by having the background change. Then it occurred to me that I could just have Krom holding a damage meters that showed Narya at the bottom.

I don't know if it has really sunk in that this is the last one. I'd say I'm gonna miss drawing the characters, but I know I still have HUNDREDS of bonus panels to draw in the coming years, not to mention commentaries on old comics. So far I've made just under 150 bonus panels, so I have about 850 more to go. So though I won't have a weekly full comic on these characters, I'm still going to be drawing them in one-panel jokes twice a week. So I'll be truly done in... 8 more years? Good lord.

It's been one hell of a ride. I'm sorry to see it go but have hope one day it'll be back. Until then, thanks for all of your hard work. The laughs over the years meant a lot to me.

😢 this is one of the two comics I look forward to every weekend (oglaf is the other ) maybe this should just be a lull between expansions and you can come back in a couple months? 🥺🙏

Thank you for so many hilarious years! I literally cannot remember when I started reading DLC- My brother says it was when you were featured on the WoW Website under Comics LOL I have spent years looking forward to what sharp critique of wow players or what hilarious joke you were going to make- and never once was i disappointed.

I'm going to miss seeing new comics from these after so long. I still remember reading your comics back in the days you started. Glad you reached 1k of those, it's been a very fun ride. Hope you have success in your future projects.. and who knows, you might decide to continue them someday :)

Thank you, it's been amazing! I stopped playing 4 years ago, but still loved reading these. Good times.

I was a young kid when I first started reading your comic. Now I'm a late 20s adult! I played on private servers, and was always enamoured by DLC's fun and extreme interpretation of WoW's mechanics as something that affects the player characters as people. The NPC uprising was and still is my favourite arc. Really lifted up that fantasy. Also: it was funny. I've always kept up with the comics, even as my interest in the game itself waxed and waned and the long-form stories and character drama were compressed into more of a fun gag structure. Thank you for your art, I'll be sure to keep up with what you do next.

part 9 and a thousand, sometimes feels massive what brings an ending.

Thanks again for 1000 happy moments. Also I am glad you brought an (open) conclusion to the comic and didn't end it in the middle of the story like the other Webcomic I miss, The Noob. I still will look at your site from time to time looking for new updates :)
