Not a big fan of this one. It's a pretty low effort joke. Though to be a little fair to my 2007 self, the original female dwarf models were pretty low effort too. I think the newer models are a lot more interesting, but honestly, what does it take to get some badass facial hair options?

Regardless, I'm really not a fan of the setup or the punchline. The original intent of the comic was to make fun of the female dwarf model which had been the butt of many jokes for how weird it looked. Instead the comic just reads as "female dwarves are unattractive because they are too masculine".

Though I wasn't as good at it back in 2007, I've become pretty skilled at drawing creepy weird shit. I think it would have been funnier if I drawn something that looked more like this nightmare fuel:

It would have made the actual point a bit better.

I'm also surprised that I drew an entirely new dwarf for this comic. I think I had drawn at least 4 or 5 different dwarves over the course of the series at this point. I drew the dwarf that would one day become the recurring character Legolas as recently as #84.

Definitely not one that aged well. But tbf, Dwarf male models were meme-level bad as well... so everyone in the comic was reacting to him like he reacted to the Dwarf woman.

Right around the time this comic is from, I was in a raid group of dudes playing female characters (for the, uh, usually quoted reason) ... and a woman playing a male character. She wanted to be a dwarf for the racial but couldn't stomach the female models.

I remember wanting to play a dwarf (I had a female dwarf in Lineage 2) but it felt like playing a character in Minecraft. I once played a male char in another game just because I didn't like how the females RAN so, there's that lol

I play a relatively equal mix of Male and female alts depending on whether or not I like the models. For example, I almost always run male Worgen, Tauren, and Pandaren. I *never* run female Dwarfs. I've never run a male Goblin or Gnome. The rest are more or less a mix, tho I have far more female Nelfs than male, and more Male Belfs than female.
