Hey all,

So we're doing something a bit different this time to prep for the public release and to be honest, we could use some help from you guys. Essentially, we're going to start gearing up for v0.17 pretty quick but we still had some issues to work out in the wake of v0.16. What we're proposing here was an idea suggested by Jordyn but we were concerned about trying to push this through last minute to include in the initial release of v.016. Therefore, we went ahead and launched v.016 and figured we could look at the revisions for a public release as there's usually spelling corrections and other stuff that I have to unfuck anyways.

So two issues came up with v0.16 that the team wasn't thrilled with 1) the size of the game (an issue I've bitched about for like a year now), and 2) the download times. The proposal we have here should help with both. Essentially Jordyn was able to convert all the .PNG files to .JPG format with no noticeable change in quality. Essentially this has taken the full version of the game from 6 gig down to 1.25 gig. This is completely acceptable to me and I would more than likely eliminate the crunched version of the game completely. With an overall reduction in file size, this will likely reduce our update launch work by about 8 hours of extra steps I have to do just to post this damn thing.

So at this point, the proposal is we would only release one PC version and one MAC version of the game for each update that is significant smaller with no noticeable loss in visuals than the previous full version. This would begin with v0.16.1, to be released to the public for free on August 10.

The dev team has looked through this briefly and I plan to do another re-read of the game before writing for v017 starts so I'll be using this version to test. However, the most efficient way for us to test is to just release it to you guys for beta feedback. So here's our proposed public release draft with the file conversion.

We're specifically looking for thoughts on file size, quality, spelling errors, and any bugs or missing images that pop up if you guys play. A lot of you have asked in the past how you can help and this is one of those opportunities. Honestly, you don't even have to play it, just fast-forward through with the Ctrl key and just explore the various choices.

PC:          MediaFire              Google Drive

MAC :     MediaFire          Google Drive

Thanks in advance and let us know what you think of the proposal moving forward. In our opinion, this will significantly cut our workload down without noticeably quality changes in the game and we just wanna see what y'all think.

Rip PNG quality (which is definitely noticeably better than JPEG compression)

I actually like the new jpeg-compression version even though I always prefer high res. I'm no expert but I can't really tell that much of a difference in quality from my comparison and I like that the colors are a bit more saturated/vibrant or whatever. :P Keep up the good job!

I’ve checked the quality on a 4K monitor and I can’t really tell the difference. I did a full zoom in on the screen of the laptop (laptop_load1) to try and read the easter egg and it was fully readable on both the PNG and the JPEG, it wasn’t however on the crunched version, so fantastic work guys!

The new version looks just as good, if not better, then the other version. Plus, with my stupid metered data, and the likelihood of getting throttled after 15GB, being able to find a 1.25 GB download is a lot better! So thank you for that! I like it a lot! Besides that, this new update - again - is amazing! So thank you guys for the hard work!

The new version is downloading fast enough

I mean, it would only be noticeable by the kind of people who go into the folders, open the individual images and zoom in for details. In-game I'm sure any integrity loss wouldn't be noticed. I say go for it. The download time is no concern to me, I have great internet download speeds. However, the file-size is a problem because my computer is near the storage limits (Damn you, Daz Studios, eating 900 Gigs). So I basically have to download the game, play it and delete it for space concerns.

I have tried the new download and its quick. I don't see any difference in the way the game operates or appears.

Great find on your teams part. It's amazing what you find when your trying to build something new from scratch. Thanks for always moving forward and improving things at the same time. Looking forward to the next installment.

Hi, this update was really great! Go on that way :-)

I even play the crunched version because my drive is aways full. So reducing size while keeping quality is very welcome!
