Well, we all knew this day was coming, it was just a matter of time before I relented to the demands and delivered the dusty old goods. Marty Robbins' classic tune "Big Iron" re-imagined as um... this thing!

I hope you enjoy the video, we had a HECK of a time making it. And not just because I'm such a prima donna to work with but because this was surprisingly challenging to pull off musically and technically. Lots of head scratching, lots of quizzical glances across the room, and lots of "ums" "errrs" and "bone headed dufus" were thrown about. And that was just me talking to myself.

This one picks up where the short version left off, but then continues on for the next week and half because apparently Mr Robbins was a story teller in the same way that Tolstoy was. Brevity may be the soul of wit, but why use one word when twenty will do, right?

Anyhow, I'm delighted that this epic of a song is crossed off the list, and now we can all stop wondering what a "Full Version" of "BIG IRON" would sound like. Because it would sound like this. 😉 Boring, just the way I like it.

You are deeply incapable of boring 🤣 I'm pretty sure this one killed me, but I am a very happy ghost. Beooooootiful 🤣

Debs Badger

I absolutely LOVE this!!!! It is my new favoritest thing of yours. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH!!! 💕

Mikki Fullerton

Thank you so much for your dusty old tunes, they regularly end up as some of my favorites in my extensive music collections. Just keep them dusty tunes comin'!

Tara Congo

This was a joy to listen to, Geoff! I was bopping my head and grinning all the way through. I always admire how you put such a dynamic and fresh spin on beloved but fairly static classics. So good!!

Melissa Elliott

I thought of you immediately when he said it was an extended short.

Gretchen G

Love this. I got so caught up in the story! Definitely not boring! Cool set, and it sounds amazing. 🩵

Denaliland

Many people including one reactor I can think of are gonna be so happy… me too!

Michelle and Quincy

Thank you for yet another average time with an average premier. *I can't wait for the MP3

Melissa Elliott

That was such a joy to listen to. As much as I live for the bass, hearing so much tenor was beautiful.

Sue Armstrong

Hey, you changed Kathy's mind! Love the unexpected chords. Congrats, another classic!

Maryse B

OH ! I'm so happy to hear the full version!!! Thank you so much Geoff!💕 Boring... Hummm We don't have the same diffinition of this word.

Derrick Won

Love it love it love it! Great interpretation!

Grace Files

Wow, Geoff this is amazing😍😍 I have heard the original before (even though it was before my time😅) and I love how you reimagined this old tune into your own!! I also am in love with the set as well, it is just so artistic and perfect for this song. It is like you and the other Geoff's are telling this story to a room of people, at least thats how I imagine it! I honestly don't know what else to say besides you have made another masterpiece. Thank you so much for always making beautiful music❤️

Amber

Well this an excellent Sunday afternoon! New VP video and a new song from you!! I know what I'm going to be listening to the rest of this weekend

Sofia Alfenito

i cannot express how much i wanted this and how much i love it!!!!!!! thank you so soooo much :)

Dorothy Rosenberg

BRAVO!!! I’m so happy that a mini has finally been made into a full-length version! Maybe there’s hope for AIWFCIY?

Jordi S

Damn that's good!!! ❤️🥰🔥

Crisstina Joubert

Geez, Geoff, I can’t find the words to express how very much I love this one. THANK YOU!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️

Sarah Borzelli

Can you please do a fuller version of Big Iron? just kidding... When people were asking you to do a full version I was thinking; what more could he do with it,...it's basically it...but boy was I wrong; I am always amazed at how you bring variety into things - you have really mastered this! There is so much to love about this tune now; Tenor Geoff sounds wonderful, love the little runs, that accordion? in the background was great also all the other sound effects! the section '20 men tried to....' is glorious! The set looks very artistic and I like how the video in the background is bleached so it isn't distracting. also now I want a BTS of you talking to yourself

Mikki Fullerton

I just noticed the way you matched that edit between the end of the pre-video introduction and the beginning of the music video... that was sweet!

Édua Elster

Wow, that was delightful. 🥰 Thank You so much! I realy just want to appreciate this one and nothing more, but I have to beg you for a Full Version of further on up the road for my twistes, depressed Heart. 🖤

Eliz Brown

Wow I love this! 🔥🤩🔥

Skatemyway

I wasn’t one that requested it because I don’t know this song. 😅 But I really enjoyed it and I love that you take your fan requests into consideration when picking songs! 🥰

Cécile Roussey

I don’t find it boring... I think it’s cool and I like the full version of Big Iron! Very nice work as always and it was worth the candle because I loved ^^

KorKnot

Watched this excellent video..*big smile*, gave a like/heart. Typing this while listening a 2nd time.....standing ovation.

Angie Woollard

Holy smokes, good sire, but WHAT THE DEVIL...HOW ON EARTH...you are the only person I know who can make a transition from the key of E to a **C major chord** sound amazingly delightful and full of interest and life and exactly like it belongs there. You, sir, continually astound me. PS: Can we just call this one You Don't Mess Around With The Ranger (With a Big Iron On His Hip)?

Chris Benefield

It was nothing short of amazing. It will also cause DJ and Kaz to faint.... and cement their belief that you are otherworldly. I'm so privileged to be part of this community, thank you for having me.😍🥰😍

Axel Silverdal

Well, you outdid yourself for the 200th time. You are the best Geoff. All the love!

Rhonda Davey

Really enjoyed this! I love the silent movie vibe. It would be really cool to do a soundtrack to an old silent movie! They used to have piano players in the theatres so why not 5 Geoff's (or VP) to accompany a silent swashbuckler!

Lois McCray

Thank you Geoff. That was excellent. I think I still have my 45rpm vinyl record of this song somewhere.

Morgan Haynes

The one time I miss a premiere and I actually guess the song right. Why!! Great cover though. You killed it

Leonie Frenkert-Ghazi

So unbelievably wonderful. A great idea to make an extended version of "Big Iron". When you announced it in the chat I thought something like that... but I hadn't thought of "Big Iron". You always surprise us. 👏🏻

Gail R.

I really enjoy your take on this old song. Your voice is many orders of magnitude more interesting than Marty Robbins', so your version doesn't feel long at all. Boring? Not according to my dictionary!

doug muchow

As usual, fantastic!! Better than the original!!

Alyssa Daniels

Thanks for caving to our demands yet again! Completely worth it! I loved the Big Iron short because of how well-suited your voice was for it and now we get to hear it for many more enjoyable minutes!

Karen & Lauren

Love the subtleties in the song - and the video's little gem of switching out the bracelets...??? 😯

Sarah Reach

Thank you again for your persistence in asking for this. It is my new favorite thing of his too!

Ethan Kayne

Amazing. Bravo 👏 👏 👏 👏. That was so much fun

Sarah Reach

I don't think there are enough ways I can say thank you for this. It is definitely my new favorite. I am sorry that we keep torturing you with requests that have "five verses, no chorus, no bridge", but we do because we know that you will transform them into amazing pieces like this! The bridges are absolutely beautiful and break up the repetitive nature of the song in such a masterful way. And the chord choices are so delicious! Thank you again, and please find some time to relax and rest this upcoming month. You deserve it!

J.L.

Awesome! Jeff brought the big iron to this song, that's for certain! Love it! =^,^=

Tonya Schuster

Truly delightful. As always, reminds me why I'm so fortunate to be here.

B Sprak

So exciting! Thank you 💖

Marie DesJardin

I have never heard the song Big Iron (nor had I heard Big Bad John) but I love the way you tell a story. I enjoyed this expanded version thoroughly and intend to keep playing it until that poor Ranger is completely embarrassed and moseys on out of town, hopefully with that Big Iron still on his hip and not pointed at my stereo...

Stanley

I had chills throughout. One thing I'll always appreciate about your covers, and especially the country/western themed ones is how well you deliver the lyrics and storytelling

Tine

Oohhh thanks so much Geoff for indulging our wishes of a full version. Very interesting what you've done with this one! Thank you

Felicity McDonald

Lol glad I wasn't the only one who noticed the similarities! 😄

Loretta Durand

I’m new to this song but you did an incredible job. Love everything about it. Thanks!

Helen A

I loved this. When you breathe new life into these old (but not boring) storyteller ballads it always makes me think of my dad. He raised me on his vinyl collection, including Marty Robbins' "Gunfighter Ballads & Trail Songs", and I know he would have gotten a huge kick out of hearing these classics revisited and revitalized.

Shannon D

This is the extended version I didn't know I needed (although everyone else did apparently). The harmonies are absolutely gorgeous! I love this one so much.

Jill Weimer Koeninger 🐉

I just love your introduction and the usage of quite imaginative...ummm...words. Yes, it'll go down in history, this one. You better believe it!

Lynn M

Geoff, you mentioned a couple times you were considering doing a full version of one of your minis, and it seemed like you were leaning towards this one. Consider this yet another dusty old song successfully given an updated polish. Story songs seem to suit you so well. The standout part for me was the second verse, you’ve got such a good country tenor sound, and that gave me goosebumps.

Katherine Powell

This is great, Geoff! You do so well with the storytelling songs. There were some unexpected moments in this for me, and I loved that ending.

Amanda Nott

Not familiar with that song, but I enjoyed it!

Kathy Pricer

Absolutely wonderful!! You just kill it no matter what you do, but the knack you have for the old cowboy songs and ballads is amazing! I'd like to hear you do Desperado by the Eagles!

Marie Galaxy

I was totally satisfied with the short version ‘cause it was really good! Now, how do I one-up, totally satisfied and really good? ……I guess with……I was ABSOLUTELY FULFILLED with the full version ‘cause it is POSITIVELY MASTERFUL!!! 😸💜💚

Susan Aliffi aka fifi

Dear Mr. Prima Donna (you’re the one in the middle, I presume), however challenging you may have thought that was going to be, you pulled it off beautifully and perfectly! (Note: those other guys singing with you seemed awfully uncomfortable in those chairs. You could have at least given them the same comfy chair that you had!). P.S. not boring!

Debs Badger

Unfortunately, Eagles covers have a history of being automatic copyright strikes. They don't like people covering their songs, it seems. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Marie Galaxy

That’s funny to me ‘cause I was going mention that the only thing *boring* was the chairs the Geoffettes had to sit on! LOL

Marie Galaxy

Talk about Prima Donna’s! Lol

Kathy Pricer

Thanks for the info. That's too bad!

Jacky Friedman

Um WOW 😲!!!!!!! That was awesome Geoff. I'm usually not into country music. But you sir make them all sound amazing. Didn't think I'd like this because of the country thing but I love it. Love the story going on behind you too. Thank you ❤️

Jacky Friedman

Yeah. Geoff mentioned that a couple of times. That's why they don't do any Eagles songs. There's a couple of other groups too that are like that but can't think of them right now.

Stephanie Hall

This is such a beautiful version of this song. I don't know anyone who can tell a story in song quite like you. Thank you for another song I will enjoy on repeat!

Cloudy Skies

Thank you for indulging those of us who have been begging for this song. I love the original, but, as per protocol, you have produced a wonderfully creative new version of a classic song. It may have been like pulling teeth for you, but I am so delighted. This is exceptionally well done. Bravo 👏

Jeanette Pencz

Thank you for this wonderful version of this song☺️ Your voice is truly a gift for us all.

Leigh D

I was right. Totally chill now 🥰 I needed this today 🥰

Ilona Dever

I'm very old and grew up in an Air Force family. One of the perks was the movie theater. They were cheap, sometimes free, and you could stay all day. WWII and cowboy movies were the staples. I love the film running behind you (all) showing the story you're telling. Brings back those childhood vibes.

DnD Addict

Thank you for listening to your fans and making a full version of this

Rahel

Super-mega-Ukulele🥰🤠!! I enjoy it so much!!!

May Wenche Hugås Bjerkli

Loved it, and the harmonies. A beautiful song to wake up to. Have a great time off.

Karen Campbell

I really loved this, what a wonderful surprise to wake up to this morning 🌄

ANITA M WRIGHT

This is so very awesome! You did it again!

Mickey H

those chords, those switches, this is so much better than I hoped!

Judy Kay

That was awesome! Made me smile! Thank you!

Rachel Dempsey

😍 New/different camera? The video looks super crisp!

Jen A AKA Dravengal

A "Ranger?" I thought this was Western themed not D&D! What? Oh, my bad. (Kidding!) Anyway, that was fantastic! Geoff, you should do a song with Home Free! You've got Western Songs down pat!

Robin P

Thank you! This is awesome!

Scott Pearce

Sorry I missed the premier I just got to watch this now, it was great

Kourtney Frantz

Well THAT just made my day!!! Thank you for your absolute genius and indulging your fans!!! 🥰

Carol Franklin

I got teary when I watched the premiere because I’ve always loved this song & you’ve taken it to another level. I thought it might be because it was 1.30am but no it’s 15.00 now & it’s still getting me!

DMCARP

Interesting listen with combo of that Western gallop rhythm and your vocals.

Karen Z

Thank you sooo much for this! The full story at last - loved it!

Leisha Slaughter

It is always a treat when Geoff gets to sing/tell a story! This was so good!! And yay for Daryll

Lynn M

I just realized Geoff added a full chorus to this. 7 Bridges Castellucci strikes again 🤣

Jay Fritz

Cross another masterpiece off the list. No "c'mon" though? That's my favorite. Seriously, though--great arrangement of a great song!

FerretMom

Bravo, geoff! Or should I say, yee haw? 🤣💜

Deborah Krach

I simply love your version of "Big Iron". I love the changes and the additions that you made to this song that I have loved since my childhood. Another job well done! Keep on doing what you do so well. I look forward to your next song.

Scott Boa

No matter how good you are, there's always someone better, as Texas Red found out. Awesome video. I can't wait for it to be up on YouTube.

Lizzy Hite

Omw, I absolutely love this!!

angelika bock

What a treat- nothing boring about it !!!

Lady Payne

Looking forward to getting this on Spotify. I love it. Absolutely love it. I read the lyrics but I didn't know how it sounded until now. It makes me teary eyed with happiness too.

Filiz E

Thank you so much!! This is amazing 🥰

Marie Galaxy

I really like the “c’mon” too! But he did his “yeah” which is just as satisfying to me.

Cynthia Ross

Geoff: This song is too long. Also Geoff: *writes new bridges to add in* 😆 I like your version better than Marty’s. No shade to Marty; he was part of the first concert I ever saw. But it needed those new bridges.

Carl Thomas

I've had some insomnia. Thank you for this cure. Old and Boring Society 4 Lyf.

Cyndra

Yay!!!

Cloudy Skies

Okay. I have listened bunches of times. Now I really need to see a BTS. Pleeeezeee

Kourtney Frantz

This was PURE AWESOMNESS!!!! Dear, LORD!!! So glad you did the full version!!!🥰🙌🏻

Susan Aliffi aka fifi

Ok, where was Geoff Number Six?!? Behind the screen? I know I asked for one of them but I swear I didn’t take him! (Not yet!). And where was the rattlesnake?! Did I miss it too? Geez! I’m so confused…

Debbie Buck

Love this version of the song and what you've done with it, Geoff! ❤️

Susie Q

Awesome!!!!!

Ruth Ballinger

This was most definitely NOT boring! Excellent job sir! Thank you for all of the hard work both you and Kathy put into this!

Sarah Borzelli

Woohoo! Best decision! Welcome to the fun!

Sarah Borzelli

WAIT A MINUTE! DID YOU WRITE TWO FRIGGIN' BRIDGES?!?! I had not realized until now since I didn't know the original! Edit: It seems to be three choruses and one verse which is turned into a bridge...maybe after the second verse: (Big Iron) He’s a stranger that rode into town one day (Big Iron) Here to do some business then be on his way after the fourth verse: (Big iron) Like the dust that's blowing through this border town, yeah (Big iron) He will chase this storm and take old Texas down part of the next verse is turned into a bridge (the lyrics stay the same) so if we don't count the previous verse-bridge this would be after the sixth verse: (Big Iron) He’s a stranger that rode into town one day (Big Iron) Here to do some business then be on his way (Big iron) Riding hell for leather, midnight to the dawn, (Big iron) He will keep on rolling till his life is gone Dayum Geoff, so good woohoo! *Geoff shoots lyrics, Sarah dies a happy death*

Tine

Gosh this is so good. I like that you stuck with the start of your short and expanded from there. Really love the choices you made😍

Felicity McDonald

I'd more call them choruses, but yeah it threw me today as well!

John Conner

Thanks for the reminder Ilona. I'm an AF Brat also. There were some really good times.

Marie Galaxy

I thought it was 2 bridges and a chorus. Either way, just phenomenal!!

Marie Galaxy

I spoke too soon. I think there are 3 choruses and a bridge! (but I could be mistaken) Still awesome!!

Christine

How do you do it Geoff? Just perfect!

Sarah Borzelli

whatttttt? I will have to go back and compare

Sarah Borzelli

so I edited the thing: it seems to be three choruses indeed and a verse which is turned into a bridge! BOOM!

Lacy McCloud

This is absolutely perfect! Those harmonies are giving me the shivers! 10/10 Awesome work! We appreciate all you (and Kathy!) do ❤

Dale Stevens

Didn’t even know that I needed this

Kourtney Frantz

I want the chair!!! Would go nicely I. My den!!😁🥰🙌🏻

Julie Gallagher

Thank you for this! It's wonderful. 😊

Donna Thompson

I have never heard this song before but I love it. I love the way you tell a story. I found you by hearing 16 Tons and Big John. They have been my favorites since I was a kid. I can remember hearing Tennessee Ernie Ford and Jimmy Dean singing them and I think your versions are better!!💗💗

Amanda Hovendon

Geoff I’m telling you, you should write a book or something one day. I love reading your descriptions before each video. You, sir, can write! And you also know how to tell stories and add your own flare to existing ones ❤️. Please keep doing what you’re doing ❤️

Gene Skinner

Your singing is so fantastic. This song (first time I've ever heard it) now goes into my list of top ten of your performances. And, of my gawd, that very last note, it just explodes in my ears with how does Geoff do that???? Thank you for another great one. Truly great.

Marie Galaxy

Prince, (obviously not a group), but his estate will come after you too.

Grand Nagus

WOW!! i honestly don't know what else to say! I'm a huge JR Cash and Marty Robbins fan, and this .... , this is just so good. Who am i kidding, it's amazing! There for a person that didn't know what to say, i said a lot. How you gave the song your own spin is so creative. More PLEASE! I know you don't want to do too much of the same, Geoff, but may i please suggest that you take a look at 'The Ballad of Bill Thaxton' by Marty Robbins. I feel like it's a song that is right for you. Thank you for making a full version of this absolute classic song.

Frances Smith

This will be one of my all time favorites of yours. Your voice is velvet with dragon tones and it belongs in the West. Beautifully done! You have done Marty proud.

Silv E

This is just wonderful! Yet again, you made me love a song that's not my usual style by putting your spin on it.❤️ The chorus adds so much - please write more! There's something magical about your additions to songs which I can't analyze (maybe Angie can), but always feel. I hope you're getting some chance to relax now, in spite of the kitchen. It seems like every time you get a break you need to do something else! (hugs)

Raymond Sturz

You made one of my favorite Marty Robbins songs better than the original.

Lee Chowning

Oh the death of reactors this summer... once this gets posted we all know what will happen. Once again, happy anniversary both of you, and thank you.

Christine Stromberg

Geoff, I swear you just get better looking with time. And better at what you do too. Not a huge Western fan myself but I did enjoy this.

Dawn Ours

Thank You Geoff ! I have always been a huge fan of Marty's Gun slinger stories. Hope you will consider doing Mr Shorty and maybe even with VP because there could be a lot of Character building Fun for all of you.

Gaisha Ziapour Edwards

Love it, love it, and love it..thank you, awesome as your works always are..❤️🌹

Matt Talley

The more I listen to this, the more I love it, and I already loved it the first time I heard it!

Dale Freeman

Kinda new here, but I think the Patreon "fans" should stop making Geoff do songs that he hates! If he can produce greatness with these duds, think what he can do with all the ones he likes!

Judi B E

My boys love this song. I had no idea. A blessing to hear you and learn something about them too. I am glad it is on the CD that plays non-stop in my car.

Helen D

Best version I have heard. 😊
