Happy Birthday 🎂 🥳 🎉 🎈 🎁 🎊 ❤️

KB👑

Happy birthday to the father of bass! Love from canada, eh!

Julia Lou

Your inner child is shining while you talk about this plate hehe 😂 “Geoffy” - your mom is so cute! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, G!! 45 be looking amazing on you. Did you do your annual pull-ups/push-ups?😝

Abby Johnson

Happy radioactive birthday!!

Stephanie Graham

Happy Birthday Geoff! Many happy returns! 🎉🎁🎈🎂🧁🍨

Rachael Dizmang

Happy birthday to our favorite bass lord! 🥳 Please be careful with the fiesta ware plate.

Laura Kemp

Happy birthday, Geoff!! 🥳

Davetanium

This is why he has freakish bass notes!!!

CR Marsh

“Torn like an old sweater” cracked me up. Happy birthday Geoff!

Brenda Qualls

Frame the platter and hang it on the wall as a memento of your birthdays.

Angie Woollard

😱 Well that explains the grey stripe in your hair - you should ask Tim Foust if he also has uranium radioactive dishes…

BlazingRook

This plate definitely gave Geoff his unearthly range. Happy Birthday Geoff!!

Gillian Drysdale

Happy Birthday Geoff I’m sure there are non radioactive orange plates out there if you look ❤️

David R Campbell

Now we know the source of your freakishly large range. Mutant! 🙂

Susie Q

Wow. Am I really the first? Lol. G. I wanna say "Don't sweat it". You're gonna die someday anyway. So, you're a little less boring now. Makes u unique 😂 seriously, though, go with ur gut...

Ali

I would hang it on my wall if I were you, I would still keep it. Happy birthday, Geoff.

Maggie S

Happy Birthday, Geoff.

Michelle and Quincy

Display it under glass and a black light!!! Kiddo started singing "Uranium" from Ride the Cyclone after hearing your message. Hey put the plate in a video 🤣

Tina Wolf

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO VOICEPLAYS BASS MAN GEOFF CASTELLUCCI 🎉🎊

Grace Files

Happy birthday Geoff!!🎉❤️ If it were me…I would still keep the plate🤣 Because if it’s something that is very special to me then I can’t get rid of it. But that’s just me, if the information you learned today takes the sentiment away I completely understand😂

Sue Armstrong

Time to put that sucker on a display shelf, where you look at it and enjoy it, while not ingesting radioactivity. Maybe a high display shelf. 😁

L. Randolph Lee

Unless you use it for a pillow all these years, just keep using it, you would get more if you lived in Denver. I was 77 last Friday. Happy Birthday, youngster!

Rachel

Frame it like a platinum record! First ever album certified uranium.

Sadie

Well, I would advise you to go see a doctor to ensure that you don't have radiation poisoning. Furthermore I would advise you to contact others who might have come into contact with this plate and tell them to do the same just in case.

Amy Murray

Happy birthday Geoff!!!

Meghan Blakesley

Might want to rethink the cake platter..... Sell it to the scientists to study! Happy Birthday 🎂!

Sadie

Happy birthday!

Dervish

First: Happy Birthday! Second: I'm no physicist, but you probably get comparable exposure by taking an international airplane flight or hiking on granite. (Yes, they're different kinds of radiation, but the uranium in FiestaWare emits a type of radiation that a) doesn't penetrate deeply, and b) doesn't turn you radioactive or give you superpowers other than voice). The biggest danger is if it has cracks, some heavy metals might leach into foods (especially acidic foods) carried on it - and the danger of lead poisoning is probably greater than the uranium. So: Yes, radiation is there, but I wouldn't expect physicists to react with anything but curiousity to it.

Sunny Steinmetz

Happy Birthday! But get rid of the plate. Think of everyone else eating cake from it, your family.

Nlea

Hhmmmm, put it up somewhere to display maybe…. And then go buy a plate that’s relatively the same size and pattern, and paint it orange…. So you can have the real thing on display somewhere, and could put cakes on the new one! By the way, happy birthday!!!

Liesbeth

First of all, happy birthday! Unfortunately I would advise you to get rit of the plate. Find another non radio active version in a gorgeous colour to use for your birthday cakes.

Sherry Thomas

Hang it in a frame on the wall!! Or put it in a shadowbox.

Axel Silverdal

Haha! Sorry for you bud! The card board might just be the better alternative. Although it is indeed a pretty schmanzy orange plate you've got there. Happy Birthday to you Geoff, it was 36 you turned right?😅 And i've got to say your a pretty good looking 36-year old! All the love too you from Sweden!🥰🇸🇪

Nichelle Rae

🤣 Welp, you’re actually a mutant. That explains the INHUMAN abilities you have with your voice. 🤣 HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GEOFF!

Lori Kingston

Happy Birthday, Geoff! And you know what? If that plate hasn't killed you yet, it's not going to do it now! Just keep using it. 😄

Helen Partridge

Happy birthday! I know you love your plate but I have to tell you, Nothing! is more precious than your health. Please get it out of your house.

M Virginia Martin

Fiestaware still makes these, although no longer with radioactive paint. You could buy a new one. Not quite the same, but safer.

Stardust_467

Thanks for the little story and happy birthday again, Geoff 😁🩷

Amy Murray

I guess we know now where you get your earth-shaking low notes from.

Lori Chaslot

Happy birthday Geoff❣️ About your plate, you could always get a bracket for it and mount it on the wall. You’d still have it, it would be an interesting ornament, and when asked about it you’d have a great story to tell. It would also make a cool video prop - don’t know how you’d use it, but it would stand out.

Mikki Fullerton

😂Awww, quite the birthday present, you lose your plate! Which is what I would do with it, though I'm sure there is a safe way to display it you could find also, if you want to keep it, and probably ways to measure how much exposure it's giving to know if it's a big deal or not. But you know, there's an awful lot of non-radioactive plates in the world to serve cake off of, probably even orange ones. The internet is a big place. I think you should get to order a new one for your birthday! P.S. I'm going to laugh if you get rid of your plate and suddenly turn into a blonde tenor.

Cloudy Skies

Happy birthday, Geoffie !! Get a new orange platter. Hang that one on the wall.

EMMA JONES

Happy birthday, Geoff! 🎉🎉😄 What a wonderful storytelling about your radioactive plate! Hope you had a super great birthday this year! 💜

Dee

LOL! As soon as you held the plate up and said, “So I have this plate.” I immediately thought to myself, “Aren’t those radioactive?” It’s not harmful on its own, but it’s recommended that you not eat off of it. Keep it in a display case somewhere. It’ll be a fun conversation piece, story you can tell people and remember fondly every birthday. 😁 Happy birthday, Geoff! 🎂🎈🎉

C. McClean

Umm I checked for you. While people can receive radiation from the pieces, the EPA states that even daily use of radioactive Fiestaware would result in a radiation dose that is far less than typical daily exposure from natural sources.

Ashley Evers

I would do some googling 🤣 I feel like I’ve heard that radioactive fiestaware can be valuable to collectors 🤣🤣

C. McClean

Bananas are also radioactive due to the potassium

Katherine Powell

I was thinking, is this how his voice got so deep? :D

Craig Cook

You’ve survived 20+ years eating cake off of it - I’d say you’re good to go! Lol

Julie C

Sell it. Original fiestaware is worth $$$. Like uranium glass. People collect it. Happy birthday.

MaryAnne Glazar

I turned 77 on 8/16! Good month for birthdays. Happy Birthday to Leos and Virgos everywhere! I'd say if the plate hasn't damaged you yet it's probably not a terrible danger; only once a year, how bad could it be?

C. McClean

So you can still have a Happy Birthday.

Lynda Rood

Happy Birthday Geoff. I just read a story recently about the radiation in Fiesta ware. There isn't enough radiation coming from these plates to do harm. You would get more from and x-ray being done. Using it once and awhile will not hurt you. Have fun enjoy your cake on your orange plate.

Manasi Kane

Uranium has a half life that’s bajillions of years , it has probably made you long lasting 🤣 Happy Birthday Geoff ! Hope you find a non radioactive cake platter for the next year!

Drávay Zsuzsanna

Happy birthday Geoff. Does this mean that the next cover of VoicePlay will be Radioactive?

Lisa Guarino

A lot of people collect uranium glass. Science is cool

Olivia Edwards

Happy Birthday Geoff🥳🎂🎉.. if it were up to me, I would get a new plate and put the radioactive one on a shelf or in a china cabinet to display it. My mom has a china cabinet of old dishes she can’t bare to get rid of 😊.

Michael McMullen

From what I recall, only a potential health issue if you store acidic foods on it (like spaghetti sauce) which can adsorb the uranium and its breakdown products into the food. Most of the radiation does not penetrate far and is only an issue if it is emmited inside you. I agree with dervish.

MerryG

Happy birthday! If you love the plate, I would suggest making it a display item in a box frame, radiation leakage is minimal whilst intact so avoid damaging the glaze!

Nana Koranteng

Happy Birthday, Funny story 😂😂

Annett Günther

OMG ... But everything's fine with you, and that's good. Perhaps it had an influence on your fantastic voice 😉. I wish you a wonderful celebration.

Lois McCray

Told my son (53) your story. His idea is to have a fake birthday cake made for the plate. Then cover it with a glass cake dome. You can keep it forever.

Masha

Yeaaah... 😂Well, first of all, HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Geoff! ❤️ Second, I would sincerely advise you to lose the plate. I'm sorry, sir 🤣 It's for y'all's good! Radiation BAD 🤣

Leonie Frenkert-Ghazi

Nevertheless: enjoy your birthday 🎂 and the tasty cake! Have a beautiful day with your family! 🎁🎊🥂🍾

Karen & Lauren

Happy Birthday sir! What a story to remember. As stated by at least one other person, if it's not been used daily, that's for the better. Just like a microwave, it's likely more about exposure from usage. Minimal is minimal. You've not gotten sick from what use it's had, so that's a plus.

Crisstina Joubert

Geez, that’s a heck of a thing to find out on your Birthday!! I like to think it added to your already massive intelligence. Enjoy your Birthday and cake, perhaps on a crystal cake platter? Thank you for taking the time to share, I did not know that about Fiesta Ware!!❤️🎂🎉🤔🥰

Katherine Powell

Happy birthday, Geoff! I never forget your day of birth because it is the day after my dad's, though he just turned 79. As for the plate, if it hasn't done any damage to you thus far, that's good, but maybe retire it from dishware status at the very least. A lot of people collect uranium glassware, so it's okay to keep in the house. Put it on display as a conversation starter, and maybe make a giant orange cake instead. :D

Kaline Goodrich

Happy birthday, Geoff! That is quite a story. The plate is most likely not radioactive enough to cause harm, as long as there are no chips in the finish and you don’t plate acidic food on it. Personally, I would display it somewhere, and then tell that story to everyone who would come to my house. :) That might just be me, though. Enjoy your cake, whether you use the plate or not.

Amanda Hovendon

Maybe you can just like use it as a decoration and put like fake vegetables and fruit on it? Idk 🤷‍♀️

Francha

Put on your tin foil hat!

Huldra Draco

I hope you have an awesome birthday despite the radioactive plate, lol!! 🎈🎂🎉❤️🎁🎊 I'd definitely get rid of it, and get yourself a safe cake plate instead, I'm sure you will be perfectly able to find one 😉 It definitely was a nice looking plate though, very colourful 😊

Melissa Elliott

Maybe it could become a display piece? Happy birthday, @GeoffCastellucci, my almost birthday buddy. I'm turning 46 tomorrow - today, for one day only, we're the same age. 😁

ZAYRAY!

Welllll that explains a lot! Happy Birthday Butthead 🎂 🥳

Loves to Dive

I'm thinking the same as others, the plate hasn't harmed you yet and probably won't since you only use it once a year. I'll do the old person thing, you know how we walked to school up hill both ways barefoot in the snow and it didn't kill us. You only live once, enjoy your cake and eat it too. Happy birthday youngun.

Holly G

Well, we knew Geoff is 'different' and now we know why. Happy birthday youngun' .... you're in your half-life now.

John Butler

Your mom gave radioactive dinner ware to Good Will...interesting lol

Sandy McCoy

Keep it!!! Once a yr you use it. How bad could it be!😳. Happy birthday🎂

Jaezrar

Oh no! Radioactive cake. Happy Birthday! Once more lol. I hope it was a great day so far despite the news you had about your favorite plate. My suggestion would be to put it in a display case. Then you can still see it, but ye I wouldn't eat off it anymore 😅 Glad to see it didn't affect you and yours much so far :)

Ember Hodson

Happy Birthday. Also, dang... at least you haven't used it daily. The less you've used it, the better. Maybe you should get rid of it, but if you love it so much, find a way to have a small piece of it to tell stories with and stuff like that.

Jorre

Using a vintage uranium-glazed Fiestaware plate once a year is safe. The radiation is minimal, so it’s fine for special occasions. Oh wait, I have a better idea, why not cover it with a layer of that fine classic lead based paint?

Jordi S

Obviously the plate is the source of your super powers, with enough time you will fully come into your abilities and even need a cape! (wait Edna says NO capes ) 🤣 Seriously though, google says to display it if you must keep it. Certainly don't microwave or eat acidic foods off it.

Tina

Well, your birthday cake just got a glowing review - and a geiger counter reading for the year ahead! (A bright future and an extra dose of party sparkle). Happy birthday to you. 🥳🎂August is the best month for I am an August baby too! 😁🤪

Brandy Franklin

Now it all makes sense why you sing so well and aren't really aging. You're radioactive ☢️. And now I can't get that song out of my head. Thank you. Happy Birthday 🎂

Sandy Nickell

Keep it! You don’t use it that often & I can’t imagine it gives off that much uranium! 💜💜💜

Cynthia Ross

Lolz, yup. I knew it was Fiestaware the second you held it up and I was like “someone just discovered something about his vintage Fiestaware….” 😆 I collect uranium glass - that’s actually a thing. It’s a greenish glass where the uranium is part of the glass itself, not just a glaze. It’s not enough radiation to impact you. You get more every time you step outside. Just don’t use acidic foods on it, and stop using it if there’s any cracks or chips. You just don’t want to swallow any of the glaze. Cake or using it to hold cookies or crackers isn’t going to be a problem. Tomato sauce you don’t want to do. Put it under UV light - 85nm-254nm, and it will even glow.

Maria Rydström

It was a good story but the plate seems a bit unhealthy to me. I think you better get a new one even if it hurts😊Happy Birthday!🩷

Cynthia Ross

Uranium glass is something different. That and manganese glass have the stuff in the glass. This is in the glaze.

Filiz E

Oh, I wouldn't want that thing anywhere near my food! Also happy birthday!!🎉🥰

Lana

Very cute story! I think you should keep the plate. There is a lot of industrial pollution around us that is more dangerous... A very Happy Birthday Geoff!

ObscureReferenceWoman

That explains your youthful glow!!! Happy birthday, you wonderful man! 🥳🎉

MorningRose370

Keep it! Maybe not as an eating plate, but put it on a display and add some caution tape and a radiation warning sign and make it a conversation piece. Also, happy birthday!

Zoie McIntyre

LOL that cracks me up that your Mom didn't tell you Geoff and how much you prized that plate. Hope you are getting rid of it now - just sayin ...! Happy Birthday to you !! :)

Cyndra

Happy Birthday Geoff!!!🍰🎂🍰

Jamie T.

I was thinking the same thing 😂

Martina Kraft

A very happy Birthday Geoff 🎂🍀🎉. I hope you keep the plate in safe place. Even if it's radioactive it looks pretty nice.

Angie Woollard

PS: I love your T-shirt, Geoff. *heads to google/amazon*

Marie Galaxy

Yikes!…the things we don’t know. But…once we know, we should take heed. Use it like a charger, (a decorative under plate). It should be safe that way and you can continue to enjoy it. But if it’s gets cracked or chipped, you might consider having a funeral and giving it up! Happiest of Birthdays to you!! 🎂 😸

Jamie T.

Omg, too funny. It hasn't seemed to have hurt you yet but I'd suggest a display case and a warning label for William so he doesn't end up radioactive later in life. Oh and Happy Birthday! 🎂🎈

Debs Badger

Happy Birthday, Mr. Dummy. 🥳 You could probably sell it to a collector for a pretty penny and get a new non-radioactive replacement. Fiesta is still in business and makes non-radioactive ones now. 😁

Loralei Dragon

Maybe the radioactivity is the secret to your superpowers?? Either way, happy birthday G! Enjoy your coconut-cardboard cake

Jill Peterson

I guess that's a new interpretation in adding an extra candle for a happy year to come. And now we know your secret there might be a rush to try and find those plates. We all want superpowers 🦸‍♂️🦸‍♀️🦸🦹‍♂️🦹‍♀️🦹🤣🤣

Ireland Jeppesen

Happy Birthday Geoff!!! We love you! I hope you birthday is full of amazing things! You are an amazing and wonderful person! Hope you have a wonderful day!

Morgan Haynes

Omg that's crazy. Could you take it somewhere to have it tested to see if it's really radioactive? I hope it's not

Monica van der Velde

Happy Birthday Geoff. Thanks for bringing so much joy to my life with your wonderful songs.

Susan Pratt

Awe. Poor guy. I wouldn't throw your plate out since you have so many memories it (good and not so good lol). I display all of my pretty dishes etc., that I can't use locked up in a lighted display case, so that they can be enjoyed by everyone still. It's hard not to get attached to things like this. So, I get it! Happy Birthday, Geoff!!!

Valorie Rose Lyons

Happy Birthday! 🎉 And now we know your superhero origin story! Personally, I would keep the plate in a case as a story piece and buy a new platter to use and eat cake on every year. I would have a hard time eating off of it, knowing that it may be even a teeny tiny bit harmful, because that’s just not the energy that I want on my birthdays. I would get a new special platter, either an identical modern piece of orange fiesta wear, or something outrageous that appears MUCH more radioactive! Because the story is amazing.

Lynn M

Happy Birthday Geoff, hope you enjoy your cake and your day.

Mark Armstrong

maybe it'lll make you young and exciting, you never know ; 0.

Celia

If your plate was produced after 1972 it's not radioactive. But Yikes!

Trisha Glass

You should go buy some Walmart shrimp and make it a true party! 🍤

Eileen Parkman

A little birthday reassurance for you: "How Radioactive Is Fiesta Ware? Some Fiesta ware and certain other types of pottery made in the early to mid-20th century are radioactive because uranium was used to make the colored glazes. Intact dishes do emit radiation but aren't harmful. However, the risk of exposure increases if the pottery is chipped or cracked. Radioactive Fiesta ware is highly collectible. Fiesta ware made today is not radioactive."

Lisa Guarino

Cool, I like to learn something new thank you

LaRae

Happy birthday, Geoff! I have a whole set of those old fiesta dishes I inherited recently from my Mom. Guess I’ll just leave them in the box in the basement. 😂 Enjoy your cake, I think you said coconut (yum!), no matter what you end up serving it on.

Meg Dailey

RADIOACTIVE BIRTHDAY PLATE!! I think you could still keep it for display? People collect uranium glass, that's the same stuff that makes some green glassware glow in blacklight. Just maybe no more cakes on the family heirloom radioactive plate 😂

Susan Pratt

I have forgotten about that song. He would be awesome at singing it, and he could use the plate as the main prop! It could still be a win for him if he keeps it or not after that lol!

Talbot

You're getting a third eye for your birthday. (I still love ya!)

Shirley B Karr

Happy birthday! And yikes! I feel your pain about a favorite dish having unintended extra ingredients. We have three sets of china but use the plain white Corelle plates most of the time because they're hard to break, and kiddo and hubby are clumsy. Somehow ended up with one plate that has a pretty burgundy pattern. I always chose that plate for my food if it was available. And then a few years ago I found out some of the Corelle patterns contain lead, cadmium, and even arsenic ... including that one. D'oh!

Gretchen G

Whoops! Yeah, gotta be careful with those old red plates. 😅

Anikó Estók

Okay, mystery solved - I thought you are an alien 👽 whole time, but nope… just radioactive ☢️

Scott Pearce

Happy Birthday, I say throw the plate away, there are others

Mark Armstrong

Then he could do cover of Lucy in the sky with diamonds.

Karin Wolf

No real danger there- try UV light... it should glow greenish! That would be fantastic in the next chat!! *scientific curiousity* All hints are already given in the comments - you would survive using it, but... don't please! Stay with us - minus added radioactivity! *rises champagne flute* happy b.!

David Wanderer

physics comment here: using the plate for special occasions should get you absolutely nowhere near the recommended max yearly dose for an ordinary civilian not working in a radiation environment. You might like to borrow a Geiger counter or the like and test how much radiation is coming off it - it might have been made with depleted uranium in the first place depending on its year of manufacture. While doing that, you might also like to see what your local soil is (most soils have a background level of radiation, that's how it works and why we call it "background"), and try a few other things like bananas or salt-free-salt to see if you can pick up their very tiny levels of radiation (there are several foods that produce absolutely unharmful but measurable levels of radiation just based on normal distributions of isotopes). Science project for your kid maybe

Arlene Jacobs

Happy Birthday!! Maybe find a new plate you love?

Lacy McCloud

You could sell it! Some people collect the Uranium dishes and glassware and will pay a pretty penny for them! I run an ebay store, so I'm always keeping my eye out for these at estate sales. Happy Birthday, btw!!

Daniel Sarnik

That’s why you have bass SUPER POWERS! It’s your origin story 😆 happy birthday!

Daniel Anderson

Happy Birthday Geoff! (Haven't seen the video yet... But I will watch it soon!) Thanks for making music for us to enjoy and we hope to listen to more great songs for many years to come!

Diane Holland

I think this plate is why you GLOW! 😆. Happy birthday 🎁!

Ann Durham

So *that's* where you got your Geoffquake superpowers!

Susan Aliffi aka fifi

I knew there was some reason why you were so shiny and attractive!!!

Marie DesJardin

Happy birthday, Geoff. I love this story! According to the Google, you're safe keeping the plate to display. You should avoid eating off of it, BUT it's most dangerous for acidic foods such as spaghetti sauce. So I'm guessing your non-acidic cake hasn't leeched much uranium out of the plate into your lips. So, cardboard this year, a different plate next year, but you can keep your beloved plate behind glass because of the poor penetrating power of the uranium isotopes. You're welcome. Here's to many more years with all the... wonderful surprises. Yay. https://www.thoughtco.com/how-radioactive-is-fiesta-ware-608648

Marie DesJardin

Oh, and dispose of the plate if it gets cracked or chipped, because that lets the radiation out.

Terri

Happy Birthday! When my mom passed away i inherited her wedding China. I used it everyday because why not? Then I saw a YouTube video about lead so I purchased a kit and of course it tested positive. I tossed it all. Decided not to donate it.

Trisha

Happy Birthday Geoff! I'll be turning 45 on Thanksgiving Day. Hope you have a great day

donna stockwell

🎂 Happy Birthday Geoff, ask if you can find a way to still keep it but put it in a see through container that would keep the radioactive particles from harming you. That way you can still enjoy the plate without getting radiation exposure. Just a thought. I hope you have a wonderful day. 🎁🎉❤️

Daniele Cruz Costa

Congratulations, my friend Geoff Castellucci, for another year of life. I'm your fan from Brazil. We have our birthdays in the same month: August!

Ilona Dever

Geoff, here's some advice from a very old woman. Use the plate. If it makes you squeamish, put your cake on cardboard, then on the plate. But think about it. You've been using and eating off of it for most of your life, which by the way is not that long. You are younger than my baby boy. Again, you've been using it all your life and you do not glow in the dark, you do not set off sensors at the airport, you have suffered no ill effects from it whatsoever. You love the plate, it's as unique as you, and until you saw some random YouTube video {which is how I found you} it did not disturb you at all. Enjoy and Happy Birthday!!!

Michel Muller

I would put it in glass container be fill with water just big enough to fit the height and width so you can admire for more decades

Randiskye

Happy Birthday from an old but not so boring fan! As others have said, you shouldn't have to worry about cake on that plate, but a layer of cardboard or parchment paper between won't hurt either. 🥰

Susana

Happy birthday Geoff!! 🎂 Have a wonderful day with your family. And as I always say, thanks for sharing your voice with us and for sharing your hair secrets 😆, sorry for asking that on last live chat. And you'll never be old!! The plate? Mmmm.. maybe I wouldn't use it 🤷🏻 But if the plate is the reason for such an amazing voice?? 😳🤔

RAI OSBORNE

Keep the plate! the amount of radioactivity is trivial, less than standing in the sun for 10 minutes. Enjoy the plate

SmartTopix

Wishing you a very happy birthday! I'm with the lady who said "you've been using it all your life!". I'm also with those who suggest displaying it! BTW what are the credentials of the random YT author? Not everyone knows what they are talking about! Wishing you joy! And thanks for the joy you give all us fans! Big love!💕💕

Emma Yadkin

Goggle search, as long as the plate isn't chipped or cracked it's safe to use. Enjoy your birthday!

Tarkus

TBF, his mom apparently learned the same thing many, many years ago.

Pixy P

Happy birthday Geoff! 💖 Maybe you can find a replica replacement plate for your cake?

KB👑

but now youll have radioactive spidey powers! Think of that! 🤣

Joseph Puckett II

Well that explains it. Radioactivity has given you the low, low great bass notes. I want to say keep the plate, but I guess I shouldn't. Give some of the bass power away and get a new plate. Happy Birthday 🎂 . Notice, not on an orange plate.

Find

Happy birthday

Carla Saylor

Keep the plate! The amount of radiation coming off it is less than what's being emitted from your phone or microwave oven. Have a glaze put on it that will make it safer. Fiesta Ware is highly collectible.

Marisa Tiemi Ono

I studied Physics a long, long time ago. I don't work with it, I went to another direction. There is a safe level of radiation, it comes from the earth, the sun, space. But I don't know how much this plate emits but the recomendation is not to use it for food. Maybe you can keep it as a decoration.

Nathan Wahl

Finally my area of expertise! You're safe, don't worry about it. The paint has Uranium in it, Uranium Oxide makes the orange color. fired on, bonded to the core, and very robust. Also basically chemically inter, the oxygen won't let go of it. As long as it's intact nothing will come off. The radiation coming from it is very minimal, and very weak. While you shouldn't sleep with your head laying on it, a thin sheet of paper or anywhere over an inch or so of air will attenuate it.

Nathan Wahl

Oh, and that kind of radiation, Beta particles (AKA electrons) do not make anything they hit radioactive. Food sitting on it is safe.

Nathan Wahl

I'm more concerned with me hitting a good F#1 chest and a good Bb0 sub than I would be using that plate!

Tracy Rowe

Happy Birthday! Someone had commented that now you might have radioactive spidey powers but I think you already have the power of subharmonics, so maybe it's just better to keep the platter as a decoration and not eat off it, just in case.

Mairi

Get a Geiger counter and check it out!

LOVE LOUDLY

Siri: play “Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons! Happy Birthday to the eclectic (and unnaturally electric ⚡️) GEOFF! We love you to infinity ♾️!

Helen D

Happy Birthday Geoff, I hope you day was a relaxing one. Either put a food safe coating onto the platter so you can continue use it, or may be do some family hand prints each and hang it on the wall or have it displayed as a fun piece of art that you have all done? We did something similar with our 3 kids and both of us and their 2 cousins and my brother and his partner.... We made hand prints into tree leaves and I painted the tree trunk and branches then we gave it to my mum for her birthday, she loves gardening and she loved her new piece of family artwork. We even added her cat and dogs paw prints to it.

TheAccoutrements

That explains why this dusty old bass singer has such wonderful hair and hasn't aged a day

J.L.

Happy birthday, Geoff! (c: Now then, -- you get more radiation from a cross-country flight (US) or from going to the dentist with x-ray three times or living at sea level for two day than you get from this plate if you use it for something as gentle on it as a birthday cake once a year. As long as it is intact with no cracks or such, you get more from daily life radiation than this plate, unless you spend you time around it in close proximity for a longer time. So, keep it for a birthday cake once a year, just check on it now and then. =^,^=

Judi B E

Happy Birthday, Geoff. It sounds like it is time for you to shop and buy yourself a new Birthday platter. Make it an adventure. You have one child so maybe you have not yet come to that place where silverware ( from your favorite set that you started as a child) are missing, individual plates or bowls have been broken and are gone, your child/children can tell the tales but you cannot remember when it happened. And then you remember, it's only stuff and you still have each other and that is huge. So huge! I suggest you hug your family and go find that NEW SPECIAL Birthday platter before Kathy's birthday. Funny how some of the most dangerous fish in the sea are bright and beautiful and many of the bright colors we have painted with have also turned out to be dangerous. BTW-you and Kathy are the only Virgo/Virgo couple I am aware of and I find that interesting.

Daniel Anderson

Me again... That was a fun and interesting story to listen to! Unfortunately, I don't have any more insight on what to do besides things people have already said. Hopefully it isn't as dangerous as it's made out to be! Again, happy birthday to the incredible bass singer that's survived 20 years eating radioactive cake! (Seriously though, in my opinion, you're the best bass singer ever 🎂)!

Rnixon

Also, your mom gave stuff she thought was dangerous to Goodwill? That's kinda messed up, man. XD

SunnyOutlook

Keep the plate and continue to enjoy it. According to those who know more than I do seem to think it’s safe. Others have some very creative artistic ideas as well. Whatever you do, don’t get rid of something you love. Maybe this could be the catalyst for you or VoicePlay do a cover of Radioactive by Imagine Dragons. LOL! Happiest of Birthdays to you!

Lady D Richter

The Hubs says you should use that shielding foam for guitars over it. But my opinion is, you've had it this long, I'm sure the damage it already done. Just hang it high up on the wall as decoration, like Gramma used to!

Melissa Clabaugh

Happy Birthday! It is my birthday too!! 🎂 🎉🥳

Kourtney Frantz

Happiest of Birthdays!!! Cheers to 45 more🙌🏻🎂🥳💕❤️

Kourtney Frantz

If it’s after 1973….. you’re good!!!🙌🏻

Bill Wright

Quick search gave this: Old, radioactive Fiestaware plates contain uranium in their glazes, but they are generally not considered dangerous as long as they are intact and not used for food. The risk comes from ingesting small amounts of uranium (especially from chipped pieces or acidic foods) or receiving unnecessary radiation exposure. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) advises against using any vintage ceramic dinnerware that may contain uranium for food or drink, recommending that they be displayed instead.

Shari Hibberd

Happy Birthday Geoff! Enjoy your coconut cake!

Julie D.

Happy Birthday! Enjoy the platter. You love it and it is safe to use according to people way smarter than me.

Jen

I am 65 and have Fiesta dishes, and I am still alive and kicking!! I LOVE all the colors. 💜🎶💜

Jane Kuja

Great idea, SunnyOutlook. I can see the video concept now...everyone wearing red while juggling orange radioactive platters. No? Well, I trust VociePlay or you, Geoff, can come up with something much better. Joyous natal day, Geoff, and thanks for the "irradiating" our lives with your amazing music.

Amber

Omg fiesta wear is beautiful! Uranium glass is even better! Set it up with a black light and enjoy!

CielitoLindo

It is a gorgeous plate and. . .so far, so good - keep enjoying it! Happy Birthday!

Eugen Hildebrand

Happy Birthday Geoff 🥳🎂 Warm greetings from Kyrgyzstan 🇰🇬

Skatemyway

😂 I have a lot of original red fiesta items from my grandparents.

John Blackmoore

And this was how Geoff developed radioactive superpowers?

Jamie Marcus

Hahaha, keep the plate silly 🎂

Dan Black

Yeah, I wonder if his would look cool under a black light. I've seen quite a bit of uranium glass under black light, and that looks pretty cool, but glass is pretty different from ceramic. Anyway, in general, those are considered to be pretty safe. IIRC, you get more radiation walking outside than you will from those dishes with uranium. Though at least one person mentioned that the danger with the ceramics is the uranium is in the glaze, so if it chips and you eat any of it… that could be ingesting uranium, which I imagine might still only be small amounts of radiation, but if it stays there awhile… Anyway, there's a lot less danger of that sort of thing from glass -- if it breaks, you tend to know it, and you're probably less likely to eat the fragments of glass. (And if you do, the sharp glass itself is probably the bigger physical danger.) But the EPA link someone posted does lump the glass in with the ceramics on there -- yeah, there's technically a chance, and I guess it's a dumb risk to take.

Alex Walker

Happy Birthday, Geoff! I'd keep the plate, really!

Christina Kuvaja

Happy Birthday to our favourite bassist! If I were you, I would get that plate framed under protective glass so you can look at that plate every birthday and remember all the radioactive cake you have ingested 🤣🤣🤣 We love you and your radioactive being. Lol. Shine on Geoff 😆 Here's to many more! Happy birthday!!! 🎂🎉🎂🎉🥰

Leslie Langfitt

Happy Birthday! I mean you & Voiceplay could always do a cover or short of Imagine Dragons Radioactive with the plate as the special guest 🤪

DnD Addict

maybe that is why you are not human anymore

Lori Templeman

Despite the various reassurances of its relative harmlessness, I would personally be reluctant to use the platter for food again. I might display it somewhere for the sentimental value and the great story. Whatever you decide, have the happiest of birthdays!

Janet Wright

My grandparents had a whole set of fiesta ware. We ate off of it all the time. The colors were so pretty! Ours were kind of square with a little kind of dip in each corner. There was one in each color. From what I’ve read, if you’re not eating it every off of it every single day it’s generally considered relatively safe it’s intact. I believe they changed the formula at some point but mine were from the 1950s. There was something similar about the glow-in-the-dark watches at one point. Timex had watches with glow in the dark hands and some of those would set off a geiger counter, but we still wore them. (We did that in fifth grade science class. They were exciting times but not terribly safe I guess. But then again we thought that hiding under our desks would protect us during the Cuban missile crisis!). I am 73 and still kicking . My son turns 45 in two weeks, so I’d appreciate if you could stop saying how old you are because that makes me positively ancient.👵🏼

Jeanette Pencz

Happy Birthday Geoff 🎂🎉🍀🥰 We all know that you are special and inhuman (dragon breath for example) so this little radioactivity should be absolutely no problem for you 😂

Åse M Bruun Lagnestål

Happy birthday! 🎊 or in Swedish: Grattis på födelsedagen! 💐🎁🎶🎂🎉

Simmerplayer27

Happy Birthday Geoff!! I polled my household (my parents and I) and my parents say they wouldnt eat off of it or keep it. I definitely wouldnt eat off it but i would keep it for display, it seems the amount of radiation even if it broke is negligible. I like the suggestion to get a modern Fiesta ware version that is uranium free that resembles it to have your birthday cake on and now you have a funny story to tell about the real one.

Ethan Kayne

🤣 🤣 🤣!!!! Lmao. Fantastic story. Happy official New Year. May it be blessed!!! My vote?? Can you safely frame the plate maybe??

Scott

Happy birthday Geoff! Maybe the plate has contributed to your out of the world range!? Just a thought love your work and talent. Scott

Uli Nomis

Happy Birthday 🇩🇰🇺🇸🥂🍻

Amber

Your mother reminds me of mine lol

Jill Weimer Koeninger 🐉

Happy birthday, Geoff! We all knowbthat your dragonness is what keeps you safe from the radiation. Personally you can use that platter for display, but get another on for using it to display you future cakes on now. From Google: What to do if you have radioactive Fiestaware Display it: If the piece is intact and in good condition, it is safe to use as a decorative item. Do not eat or drink from it: The uranium glaze could leach into food, especially acidic foods and beverages, so avoid using it for meals or drinks. Again, Happy Birthday 🎂 🥳

Daniel Lantz

Happy radioactivity to you! Happy birthday Geoff! :)

Blue Raven

Happy Birthday, Geoff! 🎉🎶 May your day be filled with music, laughter, and just the right amount of radioactivity. Since you’ve already got the beautiful orange fiesta plate, you really only have two choices: 1) Go “all in” and pair it with a nice piece of uranium glassware for the full retro–nuclear chic vibe 💚☢️ 2) Play it safe and let the plate be a heroic "under-plate" - bravely supporting the cake without direct exposure 🎂🧡 Either way, I hope your birthday is unforgettable (but not because it glows in the dark). And honestly… this whole radioactivity thing could explain quite a lot about you already. 😉✨ 💙

Amber

Happy Birthday Geoff!!! 🎂🎉 Thanks for sharing the funny story 😂

Tine

HAHAHA this is funny 🤣 I have seen people on the interwebs peruse goodwill for uranium glassware for example to display at home under a UV light. Maybe you can make your own display case for it😄 Happy birthday, Geoff!

Suzy Bailey

Them's the days... Uranium paint on plates, lead paint on toys, asbestos in insulation and some cosmetics! 🤢 Sorry to say Geoff, I think it's time to find a nice new plate for your cakes! Happy Birthday! 🎂💜

Stephanie Bunn

Aaaack! I have a cupboard full of Fiestaware.

Stephanie Bunn

And uh, happy non-radiated birthday.

Cécile Roussey

Hi Geoff Thank you for sharing with us your anecdote just fun ^^ And again Happy birthday Geoff !!! ^^

Gundula Mayer

Wow, isn't it "amazing" how much our mothers care for us, when they dispose hazardous items at us simply because they are unable to discard them themselves! I know this also from my mother, and I know why I've gained a safe distance.

Suzann Harris

So hope you enjoyed a glorious birthday today, Geoff! Coconut cake? Ditch the plate! We love you (and yours) far too much to let you glow in the dark . . .

Spacer_J

It's still before midnight here, so...happy birthday! I recall seeing something about the radioactive Fiestaware on Hazardous History with Henry Winkler. First thing I thought of when you brought up the plate. At any rate, I'm hoping you weren't eating yellowcake off of it. 😜(And that was the second thing I thought of when you brought up the plate)

Janina

Happy birthday 🎂 Well...maybe the radiation has kept you young all these years so ther's no telling what's gonna happen if you throw the plate away... 😄

Maarit Lindroos

Onneksi olkoon syntymäpäivänä! (finnish happy birthday)

Shellee Roe

Well that explains everything….well good luck and happy birthday.

Sigrid Verlaan

and: there has to be a reason to shine even more!

PetraH

I had the same thought, Leslie 😊

Angela Scheiber

Happy birthday! You could paint your beautiful logo on and display it now that it's part of Geoff history 😁

Jonna J

Now we know why you have such a radiant personality :)

Leigh D

Happy birthday. Now we know why you are the mutant you are 🥰

PetraH

Hope you had the most wonderful birthday and enjoyed your coconut cake 🎂 despite it being on a non-radioactive plate this year. Maybe the plate will make a surprise appearance in one of your or VP videos? 🎶 I think it deserves it as the shining star it is, and we would love it. Thanks for sharing this fun story. Made my morning much more glowing. Wishing everybody a great day 😊

Sarah Borzelli

Happy birthday! I always thought you look radiant! Now that explains a lot 😅. Oh gosh...yeah...I wouldn't feel very comfortable eating from a radioactive plate 😬...health is important you know. But I get the sentimental value. You might wanna look into finding a new one you can start loving from now on...btw le creuset has the same bright orange in the assortment.

AmbularD

Happy belated birthday! I don't think I'd use it every day or for acidic foods, and you don't want to put it in the microwave or dishwasher either. But if it's in good shape and you've survived eating radiocake this long then I doubt once per year going forward would kill you. (As long as you stick with yellow cake, and not yellowcake.)

Cathy

Happy Birthday.

Cathy

Happy Birthday. Maybe keep it in a glass cabinet for safety but you can still have the memories.

Tracy K

Happy birthday! Paint with sealant and keep as a proper for future videos???

Elaine

Happy birthday!!

Jona

Happy Birthday 🎂

Tema Krempley

Happy belated Birthday. Get rid of that plate!

ChazyUK

Such a good story, us mums are the best givers 🤣🤣👍 Geoff just seal the plate with a good sealant, research what type and good to go 😊

HEIDI@S

Belated Happy Birthday, Geoff. A good story! My husband and I have been enjoying your music videos and your wonderful voice for a few months now. We admire your talent. We also like the voiceplay videos. Stay the way you are and surprise the world with your music.

Carol Franklin

Happy birthday! To be on the safe side probably stop using it but as long as it’s not chipped or damaged it’s unlikely to have done any harm also acidic foods would react the worst not incredible cake 🤣 maybe your favourite plate could be a kitchen display item from now on.

Katinka

Happy Birthday 🎂🎈! Please donate the plate to Superman, when you next meet him. Will be a mega seller on Krypton... 😉

𝕸𝖊𝖑𝖆𝖓𝖎𝖊 ♡ 𝕵𝖚𝖑𝖎𝖆 𝕾

Happy belated birthday! Well, maybe that's why you're "glowing" just kidding, you don't know what's harmful. But just to be on the safe side, you should get rid of the plate. If you can't or don't want to throw it away, lock it in a radiation-proof safe.

Emma Dillard

I say throw it away and buy a new, uranium-free plate for cake. And Happy Birthday, Geoff. We love you!

MikeBass

Happy birthday Geoff. There you have it folk's, the source of Geoffs awesomeness. Peter Parker was bit by a radioactive spider and Geoff touched a radioactive plate. It all adds up now!

Rachel Dempsey

Ah ha so now we know the source of your powers that seem to only get better with age. Radioactive birthday cake! Happiest of Birthdays! Xx

Crickett Hutchinson

Is it FiestaWare or Fiesta Ironstone? FiestaWare made up til 1943 definitely had natural uranium. Then up to 1972 it used depleted uranium. After that, only Fiesta Ironstone was made. The FiestaWare is radioactive, the Fiesta Ironstone is not. Does your mom know when it was purchased? Is it chipped or cracked in any way? If it isn't, you can keep it, but really only for display. If it is, get rid of it. If it's FiestaWare, you might want to mention it to your doctor so you can keep an eye on your kidney function. In any case, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Hunter

Remember how Kathy said you looked 'shiny' In the BTS for Ring Of Fire? Now we know why. Happy Birthday to you indeed!

Silv E

Oh! Just saw this now. Umm ... time for an Imagine Dragons cover? (It is a nice color)

Bill

I love it! I have a watch that has radioactive dials. It was my father's. The rare occasional use wouldn't bother me. *I grew up with metal tipped lawn darts, no child seats, using used motor oil to coat wood tool handles, and so much more that people don't think about today. Even have a scar from being shot by an arrow. Guess I wasn't the fastest cowboy even though I later got the nickname "Lightning". Would love to share more. Thought about teasing you about the possibility of me being your father but couldn't. Think I could get by with it on Tim from Home Free? Daddy Sang Bass 🎵🎶🎙️😂😉😎 Happy Birthday!!! 🎂🎈

Hunter

The fact that his mom had that plat and knew about the radioactivity and gave it to her son. "This plate is radioactive, i'mma give it to my son, and then make a story saying I gave it to goodwill. He'll never know." 20 something years later, "Uhh....mom remember that plate you gave me? Well...."

Christine

Keep the plate and enjoy many more years of eating birthday cake off it. Happy birthday, Geoff.

NoFancyName

I saw that video about the radioactive plate a while ago, and when you showed yours, I wondered, if it was one of these... As long as you don't carry it with you all the time, you should be fine. Oh, and I heard its your birthday today - all the best and a hug!

Ro Ho

I was thinking maybe incase it in lucite and display it in the China cabinet as a cautionary tale!🤔🫣 Happy Birthday Geoff!! 🥳Thanks for sharing your life with us!🥰

Geoff A

Happy Birthday! 🎉

D M Stein

Donate it to a museum with this story. Bet there’s a lot of places that would be interested Happy happy

Azrielen

Cute plate. Love the orange. Is this your way of telling us you are working on a "Radioactive" cover?

Pidge Groce

Happy Birthday 🎂 I have Fiesta ware too. It was my grandmother's, who lived to 90. Enjoy your orange plate!

Deborah Krach

Happy Birthday Geoff! May you have many more! As for the plate, I'd keep I'd keep it.

Scott Ryan

Oh my goodness, Geoff you really should get rid of it. I can't imagine that. I hope you have a wonderful Birthday, with no ill effects. My birthday is in October, on the 27th. Stay safe and keep smiling.

Crazy CatLady

Hmmm, Now you need to get some radioactive shrimp from WalMart and you can add Cesium 137 to the mix :-) lol! Hope your birthday was very Happy and relaxing!

MyPammer

Happy happy birthday!!!

Lora Bauder

Happy Birthday! Keep the plate! Using it only once a year won't give any more damage than our environment and it will still feed happiness for your soul.

LJPrettyBird

Happy birthday! And keep the plate. With my family it's the lead content in English bone china--as if I use my tea cups every day!

Kendra

Oh no! The worst birthday present. 😭 Geoff, we can get you a new (non-radioactive) orange plate!

DragonDancer

First - Happy BDay!!! Second - you've had it for so long, you've eaten off of it, others have eaten off of it, no one's had any adverse reactions. I doubt you need to worry about it too much now. Like...good to know? But also probably just a molehill in reality. <3

Aura Arts

OMG 😂 this for sure is one of the craziest things I've heard lately, Like what do you mean you end up with a Radioactive ☢️ orange plate. Well I did a quick search Gemini AI app and this what I got about safety and handling (I know it's hard to get rid of something that been with for decades now) ✅Safety and handling Do not use for food: Antique red Fiestaware should not be used for holding or eating food or drinks because the uranium can leach out, especially with acidic foods or if the dish is chipped. Handle with care: The radiation from these dishes is primarily an alpha particle emitter, which is not dangerous as long as the uranium remains outside the body. Dispose of broken pieces: Any broken or chipped radioactive antique should be disposed of properly. I hope this will help you taking some fare decision 😅 .. and last But not least Happiest of Birthdays to Bassiest Geoff ever keep shining always but without the radioactivity plz 😂

Ellen L Brownell

As long as you don’t glow in the dark I think you should be fine. Keep the plate but, maybe just for decorative purposes. Hope you have the happiest of birthdays.

Artemia

This is not a plate. It's a gate.

Lee

Happy Birthday, Geoff! I am a medical physicist who teaches radiation safety officers how to do their jobs, and I strongly advise you to hang on to that fiestaware. First, you live in a radioactive environment and I strongly expect that you're not going to give up your wife because she' s filled with Potassium-40. Second, there is a lot of evidence that low doses of radiation may actually be good for you (it's called radiation hormesis). Third, fiestaware is continuing to increase in value because it is getting harder to find. While it is perhaps sad that there is not enough radiation coming from the plate to keep your food warm, I'm guessing it is still one of your favorite plates.

Debbi Smith

Very happy birthday! Know that there IS plenty of life as you collect more years. My son climbed Mt Kilamanjaro and submitted on his 50th birthday. (AND YOU ARE NOT looking " old".)

Ali Parr

Happy belated birthday from NZ and I hope you find a suitable non reactive orange plate . Xx

Matt Talley

Happy birthday Geoff! (A bit late, but still!) Also, Finally! Now we know how you sing so low, it’s those dusty old uranium radioactive atoms.

Donald Webster

Sell it on eBay, with a disclaimer saying that it is radioactive

Hwyla

I have a bit of good/bad news for you - Fiesta Ware has a modern line, which would presumably be non-radioactive - especially since it is also lead-free. So you can buy yourself a new plate, but you've been eating off not just a radioactive plate, but also one that had lead in it?

Sarah Westwater

Well the good news is after 20 years you are probably all a bit glowy now, so don’t bother getting rid! Any side effects? Has your pitch dropped significantly over 20 years ? (Ask your wife 😜!)

B Sprak

Happy belated birthday! Every year you have on earth makes us all happier, and I hope that overall, you're happier as time goes on!🎂🍰🎉

Andreas Hermes

Happy belated birthday to you Geoff! Now we know where your glowing ideas and radiating smile come from 😁 Wonder how much above natural radiation your platter is emitting ... might not be enough to build a home battery or even keep your hot chocolate fudge cake warm for long, but seems like enough to warm your heart on sight 😉

Silv E

Anyway, I looked it up and it shouldn't actually be doing you any harm, if it's not cracked and you're not eating acidic food off it. But if you're still worried, don't eat off it (or line it with another plate, or the aforementioned cardboard!) Take good care of yourself!

Pat P

Happy belated birthday. It is a nice plate and it’s sad that it has to go. What’s better than a nice plate is a nice plate you’ve made yourself. It can be a family activity as well… 😁

Crysti Jones

Hmm maybe I need one of these plates for my guy so he can sing bass too 🤭

Sarah Martin

You can purchase a new one from the fiestaware outlet store. They no longer sell them with uranium paint...lol! I live right across the river from the factory. Fiestafactorydirect.com is their website! Oh, and happy birthday!

Lori Kingston

When I was a baby/toddler and my family went on road trips, they had a special crib with folding legs they put in the back seat for me. No strap or harness, no buckle, just a baby lolling around in a crib, and eventually learning to stand up and watch over Daddy's shoulder as he drove. (I need a wide-eyed emoji here!) I was also one of those kids who got to ride around in the back of a pick-up truck, and once even in the back of a dump truck -- not kidding. Ripped open the seat of my pants getting out of the dump truck, which really put a damper on the rest of the excursion, whatever it was. Growing up in the 60s and 70s was so much fun!

Lori Kingston

That was my thought too. Wonder what Goodwill did with it??

Rnixon

Probably sold it. It's not *actually* dangerous, after all.

Marian Goldeen

The moment I saw that plate in frame, I knew what this video was going to be about. The Health Physics dept at the high energy physics lab where my now-husband worked 45 years ago was happy to take his sister's bowl, test it with a Geiger counter (yikes!) and then safely dispose of it.

Jody Himmelstein

Happy Belated Birthday! Whatever you do, do not donate it to Goodwill. LoL

Happy Leaf

Happy Birthday (a little late), Geoff!

Tabitha Chonka-Michaud

Oh my gosh... your story cracked me up (sorry)... but that sounds like *my* kinda luck! 😆 At any rate, Happy belated Birthday! Glad the only thing glowing will be your birthday candles! 🤭💙

Carol

Happy Belated Birthday Geoff. Send the plate to Mel's hole.

Kathleen Kaufmann

Happy belated birthday! The plate is safe to keep and display! It is *relatively* safe to eat off of if it is NOT acidic food and the surface of the plate is intact, but I don't know if I would advise it. However, if you wanted to keep the tradition, why not place the cake on a piece of cake cardboard on top of the platter, so there is no direct contact with the plate, but it still rocks the pretty plate decor? :)

Sue D

There must be some place in your area where the plate can be tested for radioactivity. Does Florida have a Bureau of Radiation Control? They might be able to test it. Fiestaware from 1936 to 1972 may contain radioactivity (according to Google).

Spots Knight (I never use my real name online)

Along the lines of what Kathleen said, as long as the the finish is not scratched or chipped and all you are using it for is cake, then you are safe eating from it. The level of radiation is so minimal that it won't affect most people. We are subject to radiation all day in very low levels.

Catherine King

I knew it as soon as I saw it--SUPER Collectible.

Catherine King

you probably get more radiation from the Microwave...LOL

Kay

They stopped using uranium in 1972

Harry Walder

That is a great story and like so many other things we are told are dangerous, the truth is most of them are only dangerous in high quantities. An example is asbestos which occurs naturally and is all around us in very very low quantities. Besides, if you watch the "news" enough, whatever they tell you is bad for you today will be reported as good for you in two years. LOL.

Harry Walder

BTW, Happy Birthday young man!!!!

Susie Q

Changed my mind. U don't want to serve family a helping of uranium...

Lori B

Microwaves do radioactive. There's other things even our CELL PHONES does radioactive. We're still alive right? So, there's that to ponder.

Lori B

Agree. My spouse was a boilermaker in these powerplants - imagine the radioactive in that! He's still alive. though should we question the brain cells fried? J/k. ^.^

Lori B

I've been getting several mris - is that safe with the radiation they emit?

Lee

MRI's do not use ionizing radiation, so you do not receive a radiation dose. The strong magnetic fields have there own hazard, which is why the tools that are used on them are non-ferrous. A regular screwdriver can become a lethal projectile near an MRI unit.

Gail R.

The physics department of your local university will have a Geiger counter. You might be able to get someone to test it for you.

Ginette

Well now we understand a lot of things!!!! 🤭😊

Libby Beard

You birthday is the same as my late daughters that was murdered on Aug 3 Happy Birthday to you and to her in heaven

Warren Silvera

It's October 17th, HAPPY (BELATED) BIRTHDAY. The plate has sentimental value. Keep it. Display it; possibly do as suggested earlier and paint the logo on it.

Durga Dasi Dorthe Rasmussen

Happy birthday go and get check up and disposal it as dangerous garbage. Stay healthy and hope you had the birthday you wanted. And may rest of your life be as you need it. Much love from Denmark 🙏👣🪷🐘

Sharon Bapp

I’m 82 and have a yellow Fiesta platter just like yours. Had it for many years. No problem. I use it on occasion but mostly display it.
